Ildan Ddeugeobge Chungsohara (2018)
Great Acting! Unique storyline! But script had its flaws.
You rarely have a storyline dedicated to cleaners.
The plot was interesting and light hearted to begin with.
Love story was intriguing to follow as both leads acted so well. Have to really commend them for it.
This drama is full of laughter and ridiculousness.
What let me down was the middle scenes of the drama, when they sometimes fell into the cliches of k-drama which is god awful to me. Thus, preventing me from giving this show a higher score. Besides that I thought my time was well-spent watching this.
Hao Lan zhuan (2019)
Horrible when compared to Story of Yanxi Palace
The 3 stars:
- Beautiful scenery & costumes
- Very good acting from many actors (Han Qiong Hua, a side cast did very well. Most impressed.)
- Some good moments of ingenuity and cleverness
THE BAD:
- Horrible script. The writer keeps dilly dallying and using a multitude of irrelevant filters to fill the episodes.
- Just when you think the lead male hardens his heart for a bigger cause, he weakens and falls back into her arms, and ruins his plans once again. This carries on at least 20 times. For Christs' sake. Once is fine. Twice is plenty. Thrice is stale. And they went more times than that.
- There is just no sense of a good script at all. People can walk in and out of the palace to anybody's content. The way they write this is ridiculous.
If you are a big fan of Yanxi Palace, stay away from this. You'd be sorely disappointed.
Chihayafuru Part I (2016)
When you enjoy the movie so much, even if you do not know the game.
It's amazing how I completely adored this movie even though I had not an inkling of what Chihayafuru (the card game) was about. There was exhilaration, frustration, humor, nervousness and just all-round pleasure watching every second go by in this movie.
The director does so well at presenting this game to every audience, and captures the passion and love for the game, such that you yourself also fall for it. I watched this movie at random, and was so amazed that I watched all the other 2 sequels.
What Japanese dramas & movies excel in is telling a moral story. And I cannot believe just how much I learnt from a movie about cards.
The lead actress and side casts are all very well pieced together, and form a perfect blend as a team. Suzu Hirose has to be one of the best actresses that I have ever come across. So young, and yet her face is able to portray so many different forms of emotions. Her dorkiness also brings so much infectious joy to the movie. You really don't know whether you have actually fallen for the cast or the card game itself. I've to say, hollywood cannot replicate this level of emotions and depth.
You won't regret having watched this.
Yan xi gong lüe (2018)
One of the best storylines and cinematography in a period drama.
I've never finished a China-production drama before, especially not one which runs to 70 episodes.
But this was my first time ever. It got me and my ENTIRE family fighting over the remote to catch up on the episodes we missed. We weren't even bored to rewatch any episodes with each other.
The storyline is gripping, many sad stories and past hidden behind the villains. Almost every single cast member had such a deep plot behind them, and such fluidity to the story, that I was most impressed by the script itself. You felt the pain of even the maids surrounding the main casts.
This does not fall into the cliches of period drama at all. The lead is way too witty (honestly ridiculous at some points), but her wittiness gives the show a really new atmosphere. Often times it really annoys me when i see the 'victim' script go by and the *lead is stuck in a predicament unable to explain her way out of it*, but not this one! Every single main cast and sub-storyline casts were all very well detailed and contrived. Villains boasted considerable intelligence and craftiness, and you often sat at the edge of your seat waiting to find out how the lead would get out of the mess this time round.
This is not one to be missed. The story really gets going a few episodes in, but you don't want to miss anything, because that's how detailed this story is.
She diao ying xiong zhuan (2017)
Very bad
I'm not the type that always prefers the old to the new. I quite embrace new versions. However, this rendition of Condor Heroes was a waste of my life. No depth in conversations, very annoying acting. They cut out alot of lore and background, so I doubt this is a good watch for those new to the Condor Heroes franchise. The sad fact is that this drama focused completely on CGI and action scenes but skipped EVERYTHING else. There are however even faults with the action scenes! For a Martial Arts film, all it did for every episode was fist fights... All the types of martial arts, and focus on skills and training were thrown out of the window. Basically everyone more or less fought the same, taking away the fun of watching each style of martial art being represented. Nice sceneries and backgrounds were its only saving grace. If not this would have been 1/10.
Dangal (2016)
Went in with ZERO expectations, left on a HIGH
I watched this with my girlfriend on a lazy afternoon. We were looking for random movies, and went with this just for a laugh. From the beginning to the end, we were kept entertained, and had many a laughter and jokes to share. My girlfriend's from China whilst I am from Singapore, but the context was still all so endearing. I believe any viewers would be able to get the humour and heartwarming story behind it all. I usually hate the word heartwarming as most movies of that genre disgust me. But this was a pleasant kind. The actor and actresses had so much chemistry and were stellar! The action was not Michael Bay certified but definitely kept me going "WHOAAA DAYUMM!" Definitely worth your time. The only reason I did not give it a 10/10 overall was because I felt that the older actresses did not portray the same feelings as their respective child actors, although most people would fail to notice!
The Titan (2018)
SO BAD THAT I HAD TO INTENTIONALLY CREATE AN IMDB ACCOUNT TO DOWNVOTE IT
I was looking forward to this movie, reading its synopsis. 10minutes in, I was telling myself that it was okay, all these lovey dovey cheesiness would go away soon when the action started. 30minutes in, I was wondering when the f... were they leaving Earth as I couldn't take the love scenes between the lead actor and his wife any longer. At 1hour, I realised to my horror what I had gotten myself into. If you want a show where everything is just a boring mess, and nothing peaks at all, then please waste an 1hour and a half of your life here.
