River's Edge (1986)
What was this film going for?
A rather strange story of friends that behave seemingly indifferently to the murder of a young girl. Their apathy, while an unexpected response for sure, does echo some nihilistic sentiments of the generation. This seemed almost more like a comedy than a drama at times. The tone felt somewhat flat if they were attempting to create an unsettling feeling for the viewer. The cinematography did not successfully create a dark and bleak tone.
Ultimately, its worth a watch for an interesting cast, especially Crispin Glover in full form, and Dennis Hopper who was accompanied by his inflatable mistress most of the time. It is an interesting film of the decade (80's) and an intriguing look at the general sense of malaise kids born in the early-mid 60's had.
They Shall Not Grow Old (2018)
Spectacular
The level of care and research put into this film was no doubt daunting. I was amazed with the final product. All should see this for a multitude of reasons.
The Aviator (2004)
Brought much truth to the enigma that was Howard Hughes
First off, Martin transcribed this complex man into a digestible and interesting film. Secondly, Leo delivered once again.
In earnest, this film did one thing for me. It made me want to learn as much as I could about the real HH, and see for myself what an eccentric character he was. One of American history's most intriguing individuals, no doubt.
The film is done well and the cast does well in portraying the events that took place in HH's life. The kept to the main ideas without straying too much away from the myth of the man.
Overall, an excellent film and I would happily recommend to anyone.
He Never Died (2015)
Proper lead actor
Henry Rollins is too interesting of a man for this to not be watchable. Other than Rollins, the movie is rather flat across the board. Overall a decent watch. This is the sort of film you put on at 1 am when you can't fall asleep. This isn't the film you allot time for..
The Thaw (2009)
Yikes
This movie was rather boring and rather poorly acted. It's hard to imagine that at a point in time Val Kilmer was a well-respected actor. A sad affair "the thaw" was.
As Above, So Below (2014)
Better than advertised
A pretty good watch for the genre. Many interesting historical elements throughout. It includes symbolism from Dante's Inferno for a larger picture and some decent scares. Worth a watch if you're a fan of the hokey horror genre
