The Great Escaper (2023)
Beautiful.
What a beautiful film, very poignant made even more so that it actually depicts the true story of Bernie Jordan's remarkable trip to Normandy 70 years after he served there. This film also captures the truth we all face ( if we're lucky) of old age and it's reality. Brilliant .Michael Caine has always been one of my favourite actors and Glenda Jackson is wonderful in her last role before she passed away. The film I think also deals with PTSD which must be terrible for those who have served whether in World War Two or more recently in Afghanistan. I would urge anyone to watch this film as these issues can affect all of us.
Lancaster (2022)
Best Lancaster film/ documentary.
Absolutely superb documentary on the best heavy bomber and the men who flew her in WWII.
The photography both aerial and on the ground is probably as good as it can ever be and uses the Battle of Britain's memorial flight's Lancaster which is based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire ( bomber county) in England. Anyone who is familiar with the history of bomber command will recognise the timeline of the development of this wonderful aeroplane and its impact on the Second World War. The losses suffered by the very brave young men is balanced by the losses suffered on the ground in Germany but the conclusion that it was ultimately a necessary method of waging war on Nazi Germany is one I agree with . Massive respect to the men who fought and paid the ultimate price .
Devotion (2022)
True valour depicted so well -respect.
True stories are always the best subjects for a movie but this movie did far more than prove this theory. I was unaware of this event in the Korean War that ended with a true hero losing his life after performing an act of heroism the average person can only be in awe of. It was only towards the end of the movie that I realised the events depicted were recounting what really happened. Bravery and disregard for personal
survival to aid each other in a war that doesn't get a lot of coverage compared to other conflicts is so well shown in one of the best films I can recall ever seeing . So worth watching if for no other reason than to pay our respects to these brave men.
The Lost Daughter (2021)
Dreadful
2 hours wasted watching this morose and boring self indulgent film. Why Olivia Coleman allowed herself to get involved is very surprising. Watch a Carry On film for a more interesting plot.
Lancaster Skies (2019)
Needs watching lest we forget.
Much better than I expected , recognised East Kirby which we have visited, portrays the raw courage these very brave young men showed, we owe them .
Brothers of War (2015)
2 hours wasted!
Dreadful indulgent piece of romanticism 'plot' all over the place.
