Let's Get Married (2023)
A lot of romm for imp
The characterisations in this movie are off it's hard to sympathise with them and therefore not entertaining at all. The female characters feel very 2D and the male lead's actions are very frustrating.
For example, the hero of the movie insults the heroine because 1)she wanted to date him before agreeing to get married 2) offered solutions to their problems when he can't come up with any solutions 3) hero says that she knows only to eat and shop.
However, she's so much more much mature than him. He's so immature and has a super big issue with communicating with everyone - including his own mother. His lies are so ridiculous. He won't even serve himself food when food is right within his reach. Mothers aren't there only to cook and serve food, they're their own individuals.
Portraying mothers/in laws as ill informed about the world, emotional and narrow minded while portraying modern young women as stupid and ridiculing them when they have a healthy appetite is doing damage and will collect scorn from current audiences.
The only redeeming factors are the comedians in this movie and the two female leads.
Theera Kadhal (2023)
Ten steps backwards
Such a misogynist movie. Clearly written by a man.
It was amusing to watch Jai's character being portrayed as the "poor husband being denied affection": the scene where he bought his wife a saree but she doesn't even glance at it and he gets all sad. Do you know why she doesn't have time to even look at the gift saree? Because she's busy preparing breakfast for him and their child, also packing lunches for all of them to take AND getting their child ready for school after which she has to rush to leave for her own job in the morning. He doesn't look at it as affection/care/love that she asks him to make sure he eats the breakfast she cooked for him before she's rushes off to work.
When he starts to "help" her with chores (out of guilt of the emotional affair with Aishwaria's character), his wife is pleasantly surprised, but she questions him why. You can already see here that she's probably not used to him doing his share of the chores in their marriage life. As both of them are working, why is it falling on the wife's shoulders to do the cooking cleaning, ironing and getting the child ready for school? This is indicative of why she doesn't give him the attention or affection that he craves, because she does not have enough energy after work and the chores and the child.
Aishwaria's character: my god this woman took a lot of abuse from the husband, and also the fact that her parents are not supportive. They got the right person to play her abusive husband, every time he smiled, he creeped out the audience. The only thing satisfying about this movie is that she took a bold step to leave this marriage and also, the satisfying slap she give him when she fought back.
Jai's character is portrayed as someone stuck in between but in reality he is a cunning guy who pretends be the nice guy. He is the one who asks for his ex's new number, pursues his ex to go for dinner and keep in touch. And at the same time he's also being intimate with his wife resulting in another pregnancy.
This movie could have done something noble where they could have actually addressed domestic abusive situations, shown support for survivors instead of making a domestic abuse survivor a villainous clown.
Hope the actresses chose a better script next time.
Double XL (2022)
Great concept and a fun movie
A great attempt overall, audiences looking for fresh concept and light hearted fun will love this movie. Progressive audiences would love this storyline, the focus being on two heroines & their ambitions ,and finally a movie tackling body shaming in India.
The grating wails of Rajsri's mother trying to force her to get married because she's turned 30 and Rajsri's pain and frustration to embark on her career unshackled is something a lot of women would relate to.
But I'm glad this movie shows family (Rajsri's dad &grandma ; Saira's brother) support the two heroines' not so traditional career choices. Also shows women supporting women which is wonderful to see.
A refreshing movie to see which is also fun and quirky with two beautiful heroines portraying plus size women. Also the tamil actor makes a great (and cute) addition to the ensemble.

Questionable logic and unremarkable storyline
So basically the hero's dad only obeys his father (played by Raj kiran) and he doesn't respect or heed his own wife's(Raadika) advice to not go out in the middle of night to play kabadi like that (especially when he got woken in the middle of sleep by his father). But he goes because he "has to obey his father". I understand he is in a joint family, but can't he think for himself and for his wife and child? Well he plays kabadi and dies in the game.
Then the hero's cousin also dies because of kabadi, not even 10 mins later the hero motivates the whole family to play kabadi. His mother rightfully says no for him to play but he emotionally blackmails her by attempting suicide??!? So she agrees.
What is this movie?? I think if they gave up on this game and instead focused on nurturing their relationships and improving their communication would have been much better family movie.
Triples (2020)
Backwards concept and mediocre comedy
The pressure from society and family to quickly have babies for newlywed women formed the serious parts of this series. But the issue wasn't addressed properly.
The heroine Meera's situation was frustrating to see in 2020 as no one was supportive (not even her own parents).
Main factor is that the hero Ram is shown never supporting her especially with his backward minded parents. She even questions him when she finally snaps after being treated like crap by his parents almost on the verge of separation but he rather agree to the divorce than show support for his wife.
Also similar troupe with the fertility problem actually being Ram's fault but he never reveals that to anyone and lets everyone assume it's the poor heroine's fault. Ram thought getting married to a different girl will solve his problems (of course not, it doesn't solve anything). In fact he's ruining another person's life coz his mother would want a grandchild asap anyway " to shut the society's mouth". Again another backwards concept.
I watched till the end of the series, hoping they would properly address this but they never did.
At the end, they reunite because she gets pregnant- that's not the solution!! He didn't even apologise to Meera, he doesn't show that he learnt from his mistakes. The character arc is so bad.
Vani Bhojan has potential which was not used at all in these series, Jai : I laughed out loud when he said he's a young 25 boy looking for love ( it's so clichéd) but he did his character well. Namitha Krishnamurthy, Vivek Prasanna and Rajkumar were the real heroes of the series - they were entertaining.
For a series which brings up modern 'youth' issues surrounding gender equality, it doesn't show an equally modern approach to solve the issue.
Watch this series if you are looking for an average slapstick comedy with a lighter mood to fill your time.
Malaysia to Amnesia (2021)
Watch it for the comedy!
The comedy made me laugh so much - especially ms baskar. The rest of the movie not so much - maybe they could have made the wife character a bit more bold. It was archaic to portray the wife character as a not so bright village girl.
The Week Of (2018)
Hilarious and wholesome
The movie was funny overall but some parts of this movie were burst-out-laughing hilarious. This is stuff which could actually happen with an uncle or dad doing random things like that. The small emotional parts were good too. Overall a feel good movie.
Ennaku 20 Unakku 18 (2003)
Only the songs were good
The characters in the movie were irritating as they were over exaggerated (eg heroine's mother) and displayed callous behaviour towards falling in love (both families) , showing 'modern' young women in a bad light.
Only the songs, actress Trisha and the main actor's performance salvaged this film.
Naduvan (2021)
Boring and long movie
Movie wasn't engaging or interesting and too long. If you looking for mystery, thriller or detective fiction - it's not for you. Can't sympathise with both the main characters ( husband and wife). The young factory worker boy acted very well though.
