Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
I wanted to love this movie, but I was disappointed...
I love this franchise. I love The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, and the Nun. I didn't care for Annabelle 1 but I really enjoyed Annabelle Creation.
Unfortunately I was disappointed in Annabelle Comes Home. I brought my family and we were seldom scared, and we didn't care for Mary Ellen or Daniela. It breaks my heart to say this but the Child's Play remake (which also came out in June 2019) was better...and I'm not even a big Chucky fan.
Lots of unanswered questions: Why get Ed and Lorraine get a teenage babysitter when the Grandma was the babysitter in The Conjuring, especially right after they brought an evil doll into their house? Why would Ed leave the keys to the evil antique room just laying on his office desk? Why would his office door be unlocked? Why would Ed and Lorraine go away over night near or on Judy's birthday? Why didn't Lorraine sense Judy was in danger, like Lorraine sensed it in The Conjuring?
Patrick and Vera saved this film from being a total waste. Judy's character gets more character development, which was nice. The "Bob has balls" joke was lame.
Again, I do love this franchise and I'm glad many people like this movie and it's making money but I'm looking forward The Conjuring 3.
6/10
The Nun (2018)
The Nun is AWESOME!! A new horror classic is born!!
I don't understand why so many are saying that this movie is not scary. Are you serious? My whole body jolted in my cinema chair a few times. A teenage friend of my daughter called it "unrelenting." I am a hardcore horror fan and I don't get easily scared by horror movies. But this film was scary!!
James Wan did an awesome job once again. Also, no spoilers, but this movie has an interesting connection with the first Conjuring. Taissa Farmiga was great as Sister Irene, and the actress playing the Nun...wow!!! She did an amazing job scaring the audience. How this movie has such a low rating is beyond my comprehension. Don't listen to the negative reviews; watch it with the lights off and the volume WAY UP and prepared to be terrified!
Family Possessions (2016)
So bad! Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Boring, tedius "ghost" story with unlikeable characters, amateur actors, and an uninspired plot about a deceased "witch" grandmother and her "haunted house." Mark Patton and the wonderful Felissa Rose have glorified cameos, but there is not one scary scene. Not one!!
Don't bother. Skip it. Watch any of the Conjuring movies, Insidious movies. Light's Out, Mama, or Paranormal Activity.
Justice League (2017)
Justice League is fun, positive, optimistic, with the REAL Man of Steel!
This is the DC movie that I've been waiting for!! This is the only movie in the DC Cinematic Universe that I really, truly enjoyed.
Batman has a cool scene by himself beating up a bad guy, Wonder Woman has a great scene by herself rescuing people from a bank heist and bomb explosion. I liked the connection between Diana and Bruce.
Superman is back in a big way!! Henry Cavill finally feels like the real Man of Steel that we all know and love!! This is the Superman that I've been waiting for since 2006's Superman Returns. Cavill's Superman was finally confident, secure, hopeful, optimistic...it's like he's had a personality overall, in a good way! Clark and Lois had great chemistry, and it was great seeing Martha rejoice at Clark's return. I also enjoyed Danny Elfman's soundtrack , especially the original Batman theme and the original Superman theme.
I thought the film did a pretty good job at introducing Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg but sometimes the humor felt forced and the bonding of the team didn't always work for me. Steppenwolf was a one-dimensional villain , and the ending fight between Superman and Steppenwolf should have been longer. The CGI on Superman's face was a HUGE distraction, ugh.
So this movie isn't perfect, but I find many of the criticisms of this movie to be empty and baseless. So many complained about Zack Snyder and Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, saying they were joyless, too serious, too dark, too long, etc. Now they criticize Justice League for being the opposite, for being fun, light-hearted, joyful, and positive. Some fans can't be satisfied.
Overall I absolutely enjoyed Justice League and I can rest assured that my kids will actually cheer for Superman and Batman in this one.
Positive. Optimistic. Happy. Finally, WB gets it right! Justice League is the anti-Batman v Superman...and I'm so glad!!
Victor Crowley (2017)
Awful, Tedius, Disappointing fourth Hatchet movie.
I was looking forward to this movie. I am a huge Hatchet fan, I loved Hatchet 1 and 2 (Hatchet 3 not so much). I love the old school, 80s slasher style with silly but fun characters and gore.
Then I watched this movie. The story is that Andrew Yong survived the attack of Victor Crowley ten years ago, wrote a book, went on a talk show with his mean and hateful ex-wife who is the talk show host, then went on a book signing tour with his manager, played by the wonderful Felissa Rose. Shortly after his manager tells him he can make great money by going back to the swamp and filming a movie or documentary about it.
The main part of the move is a group of unlikeable, argumentative characters fly on a small airplane to the swamp, until they crash land in (surprise) Victor Crowley's swamp, who is unintentionally resurrected. Victor Crowley begins killing one obnoxious character after another, while the survivors endlessly argue with each other.
Compared to the previous Hatchet movies, this movie lacks the fun and humor. It was nice to see Tiffany Shepis, but her talent was wasted. The gore and special effects are very few likeable characters in this movie.
This is a terrible, tedius, obnoxious movie. It's also rather short. Soooo disappointed. Kane Hodder as Victor Crowley and Felissa Rose as Kathleen are the only bright spots in an otherwise boring, obnoxious third sequel that is not even in the same league as Hatchet 1 or 2.
I miss Tony Todd as Rev. Zombie. :(
