Svolochi (2006)
So bad
Foreigners might not know but in Russia the movie was at first promoted as "absolutely true story" which the author of the book survived himself. Thats why the attention to it was so great (to say nothing of the persistent advertising).
And then it turned out, quite all of a sudden, it was just the author's fantasy, it's not true, no kids were made terminators in the soviet time and sent to Nazis to heroically die. and there are even documents proving that is what Nazis tried to do!
The trick as you may have understood is soooo bad! To draw attention at any price? To rewrite history blaming soviet people for what they had never done? OK, we are grownups, we can just ignore the movie or its historical part, but what to do with kids who watched it... Alongside with the ongoing brainwashing how bad everything was at the soviet time. Making them ashamed for the past?
If our ministry of culture thinks suitable to sponsor such movies, i don't know what for culture they have there.
Apart from the history, the producers did everything to get tears out of us - poor kids in so hard conditions: hard life made them criminals (ah so) cruel power makes them kamikaze (oh really). such a fake. Would you watch this movie if characters were not that young?
And big thanks to Menshov, the producer of "Moscow doesn't believe in tears", a good movie made in the soviet time, for his refusing to give the award to Svolochi at some MTV ceremony. That was unbelievable and wonderful!
And today it's Victory Day in Russia and i would like to say thanks to all the people who saved the world from Nazis, who were dying for the better future for us. we will never forget that! We are immensely grateful!
Klassik (1998)
Great movie
I wasn't expecting much going to see that movie: oh no again some criminal affairs, fed up of so many badly made Russian movies of 90s (at present though too). But the movie turned out to be so nice. It's quite interesting, i would say captivating, perfect actors - their play is just stunning! Nikonenko gets 15 points out of 10 possible, and Guskov plays above all praise! On reading other comments: i guess the movie is not about 2 friends wishing to win mafia. If you remember in the beginning of the movie the billiards association was going to punish this criminal leader for robbing them off. So those two guys were sent there to make the whole clever combination true and bring justice to the world :)
Zhara (2006)
Even 1 is too much
Thats one of the worst movies i have ever seen. But what a mighty advertising campaign it had in Russia! Watching this movie one cant but think again - cinema has become just pure business, it's not any kind of art anymore. This movie is a bright example of that. Same actors played in a movie before, which was quite successful, so the director of the movie made "something-who-cares-what" to get people, especially little naive girls, back to movies and earn as much as possible from that. The scenario is awful, but we could forgive that in a romantic movie, it should be all about love. We would forgive, if it was a romantic movie. But i don't even know how to name this movie, it's not romantic for sure, even though they tried hard to input something that at least looks like that. It's a meaningless fake, the whole movie is a fake. Pure "glamour from fashion magazines" in its worst meaning. Being a native Russian, i am really very upset that foreigners can see Russia from this point of view: skinheads seem to be everywhere, tourists are not safe, everything is so superficial. And in general, for a foreigner it would be much harder to define what the movie lacks, where it goes wrong, and where it misinterprets on purpose. Lets see ourselves, how much of bad taste is in the following: summer rain on the background of Christ the Savior Temple, gastarbeiters from former CIS countries on the ruins of "Rossiya" hotel on the Red Square (what for a picture is that?!), oligarch's son in jail together with an American tourist (both categories just don't get there), one (?!) currency exchange in whole Moscow as well as one taxi driver, so strange thief, doing strange unexplainable things, to say nothing of an unhappy girl gnawing her piano, but then, thanks God! becoming a happy striptease girl with a shy smile and eyes down. Resume: kitch, lack of taste, no meaning, waste of time.
Armageddon (1998)
Cant believe so many people liked...
Was on TV today and amazed me - one of the worst movies ever, so silly sentimental, boring, and quite stupid in general. Actors were really not convincing. The plot is nothing new, so predictable. America's saving the whole world again and again makes tired - in fact they should make movies little bit closer to truth, for instance, how they bring democracy to other countries, huh? i already start to believe that America has saved the world at least one million times. ah that were all movies? noooo!!! i am sure it was in reality! i am so brainwashed :) And yes, the scene at the Russian space station hurts. Why is that unnecessary mocking at other nations again? Yep, how could those unshaved far-away-from-any-hi-tech creatures go to the space at all... maybe the whole nation stands on each other shoulders and the top ones assemble the station with the hammer and sickle... thats the only option for those jerks the funny hats... Arrogance is one of the worst human traits. and "borat", mocking at kazakhstan, is also one of the brightest examples. and in general it's so often to be seen in American movies. toilet and nationalistic humor prevail. pity, what can i say

Boooring
One of the most boring movies i have ever seen. Completely agree with previous comments - just another one easily forgettable movie which gives nothing to the mind or soul.
The story is nothing new - a girl wants to achieve a brilliant career of a stewardess ohhhhh and does her best for that. You think she does anything interesting? Noway. I don't know why, but to me the whole movie seemed not natural, far toooo long, not funny even a bit. All family in red pullis and she getting one, and bad friend stole her exam list, and better love than career, it's just incredible - not even one moment which was made more or less worth watching. how could one make such a boring movie, it's above my understanding.
The Gods Must Be Crazy (1980)
Great movie
Maybe it's not the funniest movie ever, and i can understand why some people got disappointed having expected a good comedy, but it's sweet, thoughtful, with a clean kind of humour. I don't find it really very funny, but it's touching and unusual. I got carried away by the atmosphere of Africa, and was utterly surprised to see money handed to the bushman. money seemed so strange and unnecessary, so in contrast with the natural simplicity of bushmen lives, the beautiful landscapes, the calmness and deep truthfulness of living so close to nature, in love and agreement, without racing for money and power. For me the movie emphasizes the following - we live once, nobody has yet proved there will be another life, why hunger for money or power, why try to get much more than you need, why kill other human beings in search for power - look at the bushman. watch him smiling and relax :) May we all have a bottle of coke the worst thing in our lives - no war, no murders, no unhappiness.
Sgt. Bilko (1996)
One of the best comedies ever
I also cant believe the movie is so poorly rated. Whats wrong? So many toilette-humour-pictures got much better rating. And this movie which is really full of fine humour is rated so bad.
Steve Martin is awesome here as well as all other actors. The movie IS funny, the situations are funny, the plot deserves to be rewarded.
It's one of my all time favorites - i do laugh every time i watch it.
Bilko is an incredibly charming foxy Sgt. For me it's one of Steve Martin's best roles. I cant but smile seeing his every face expression, gesture or action. Just super! And all the actors were at their best. Just on their places. I rate it "excellent"
Interdevochka (1989)
Very nice and sad story about the fate of a prostitute. Perfect actors, incredible Elena Yakovleva
One of best post-perestroika Russian movies. A girl becomes a prostitute, then gets a chance to leave Russia and have a normal family. But it's beyond her. Longing for motherland, not very friendly strangers around, no love, no mom, all of this leads her to death (presumably).
Elena Yakovleva is at her best as always. She is so perfect, so real. And so Russian :)
In general it's not really very interesting movie, just a glance into Russia after perestroika, when so many things got ruined. And maybe in a way a hint to those so many girls leaving Russia in search for better life. There is no place like home, you know...
I advise to watch it, I watched it yesterday and it was so nice, so many flashbacks. Mind you, now Russia has changed drastically since then. Still one of best movies made after perestroika, we haven't got that many nice movies yet as in Soviet time, whatever they say, but majority of Russians long for that time, when everything was so simple and stable. When state took care of citizens (OK OK sometimes maybe overtook) and didn't just rob them as now.
As for the previous comment - yes, Ingeborga is a good actress. And Lithuanian, so what, unlike some other countries (we know yes what we are talking about), we always welcome all people, not depending on their nationality. Russians just don't care if Lithuanian or Georgian, we have a lot and it's normal. There is no bad feeling. OK, Soviet Union doesn't exist anymore, but we don't blame any other nationality in our problems :-P
Nochnoy dozor (2004)
What is that amazing about this movie?
One of most disgusting movies i've ever seen.
They just perverted that nice book. I wonder how people without reading the book can ever understand anything in this silly movie which is positioned like it's something incredible.
Too much blood without reason, too much advertising not even hidden. Ugly special effects, like somebody has said here - seems two different plots not connected, watching it is like jumping from here to there. Yes, it doesn't look as a Hollywood movie, still it's ugly.
There are nice Russian movies not many recently though.. So, don't waste time on this junk.
People, watch again, it's ugly and talentless. Totally discouraging. I am sure, i will not watch any of sequels to come.
