Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
Giving Infinity war a run for it's money
This movie was absolutely incredible. From the animation, to the storytelling, to the characters this movie is completely one of a kind. It is easily the best looking animated movie of the year (no surprise there), but what really caught me off guard was the story they were able to tell in such a short amount of time. Each character has their own distinct personality and is given their own separate characterization without making the movie feel bloated. I knew I would end up liking this movie, but this movie has completely exceeded my expectations. If you enjoy superheros or animation you should 100% definitely watch it in a theater.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)
It's a mess
This movie is all over the place. At it's core it is a movie about Grindlewald's rise to power. However, this plot is bogged down by so much unnecessary information that it's very frusturating to watch. Newt and his friends are very inconsiquential and feel shoehored in along with a couple other side plots. Grindlewald, Dumbledore, and Creedence were all interesting characters, but everyone else seemed pointless and unnecessary. I wanted to like this movie, but I ended up walking out feeling disappointed.
Searching (2018)
An amazing mystery with very unique style
This is my favorite movie of 2018 so far. The plot is full of twists and turns, and no detail is left without some sort of meaning. The fact that this all takes place on a laptop only elevates this movie beyond the typical mystery. Characters and plot elements blend perfectly and really puts this movie on a league of it's own. Definitely a must-see for everyone.
