Shiki (2010)
Who's the bad guy? What's moral or immoral?
First I want to praise the character design. It's authentic, modern and yet has its own unique stamp by which the characters can be recognized and distinguished from characters of other anime.
The beginning is not the most interesting and the first few episodes didn't draw me in the plot and characters. From the start It was obvious that there are vampires and that the culprits are newcomers that have moved in the Kanemasa mansion. Villagers and the doctor didn't know the cause of deaths of the local people, but to me as a viewer the cause was obvious, so It definitely lacked a good mystery.
It was hard for me to kind of bond with the characters and to care about their life course, cause l didn't see enough of their personality, like habits, hobbies, traits, attitudes, friendships, past, the way they think and feel. I only cared for doctor and only started caring for Yuuki and two of his friends when the anime was near the end.
What I appreciate the most in this anime is It's turn of events. The fearsome hunters were now humans which raised a moral dilemma about whether is It right to kill and end a life even of a nonhuman. Who're the monsters? Human killers who kill for revenge, or nonhuman ones who kill in order to survive.
I enjoyed the last episodes the most. Al though, the mystery element was missing in the beginning, It was surely present near the ending. I even managed to empathize with shiki and feel sorry for their suffering. The ending was satisfying.
Higurashi no naku koro ni: Kai (2007)
Mystery revealed!
I'm amazed by this anime, my mind is blown away!
In my bad days this anime had really suited me, I was drawn in the story and characters, the mystery and violent scenes. During the episodes I felt excited, intrigued, empathic, then moment later I was feeling worried, horrified, shaken. It was a real emotional roller coaster!
In the first season I was trying so hard to make sense of the story, but the next episode always managed to prove my assumptions wrong. So, the whole first season didn't make sense. I had to close my eyes or at least lower the volume through the scenes of bloodshed, violence and madness. That was hard core.
Second season had exceeded my expectations, everything made perfect sense, I was like "Oooh!". It turned out to be a complicated story that gives important message about friendship, trust, unity, hope and how you can take actions and change your fate.
Akatsuki no Yona (2014)
Such an intriguing story and unique characters!
Anime plot is very interesting, I like the depiction of different destinies and lives of the characters, as well as the insight into the perspective of both the good and those who are villains. The characters look very carefully aesthetically designed and attractive, yet not overly sexualized. The episodes were so amusing, I watched episode after episode.
The last episode was a real disappointment. Especially since there is no second season. Four legendary dragons have gathered and that is where it ends. What about General Huck and Yona. I hoped he would at least confess his feelings for her, even If she refuses him afterwards.
Main character - Yona is essentially a spoiled child who has been forced by fate to fight for her life and to think of others. In the anime, all the focus seems to be on Yona, all the characters fall in love with her and that love is canine, they are enchanted by her and following her every step. Personally, I don't see why is she so valuable and significant, so during the episodes, I am annoyed by situations in which others idealize and almost worship her. I think it would be much more interesting if the main character Yona was given more challenges in social relations as well as in taking a position in the newly formed group. She is 16 years old and has the main say in important decisions within the group. That's ridiculous.
Further, in almost every episode I feel sorry for Hak. He is trying, in every possible way, to show Yona that he loves her and that love is romantic, but she remains ignorant. Unhappily in love people sometimes find another lover to make up for unreturned feeling, but Hak seems asexual in that sense. Which is a bit boring.
