This Town (2024)
Loved it
No pretentious review here, just watch it and enjoy. I grew up in the midlands in the 80's (some of this was filmed in my home town) and it really captures the era, those expecting it to be all about music are the ones who are getting all up themselves.
There are plenty of old ska tracks, some rock steady but mainly I the background which was fine.
The accents are okay (if a little forced sometimes) as the main characters are from around the area, the gloomy atmosphere was well done and the acting was above average.
It's very well written and the poetic flow across the episodes works.
Reckon there will be another series which could expand the characters further, overall it was a good watch.
The Bear: Fishes (2023)
Holy s**t!
I haven't watched anything so intensely in my life! I mean I love Jamie Lee Curtis but this was a Jamie Lee Curtis I have never witnessed!
As a viewer you are just there for the whole thing, you totally feel like you are in the room with all the madness and every emotion available.
This season is a lot calmer than the last with an occasional hint of the madness from early season one, then like a steam train this episode rips into action and leaves you gasping for air!
The acting is incredible from everyone and even feels ad-libbed some of the time which just adds to the ever increasing atmosphere, best thing I've seen from any show ever...just brilliant.
The Outlaws (2021)
Bit PC
Some reviews on here are a bit premature, don't review until you've watched the whole series! The forced wokeness does take a bit away from what could have been a fantastic show, don't get me wrong I still enjoyed it but the cliches just wore a bit thin by the end.
The War of the Worlds (2019)
I'd give it 0 but I can't!
Yet again I waited in anticipation that a proper adaption of the novel was coming...couldn't be more wrong! Even if you ignore the fact that the BBC completely forgot to read the book beyond the title it is just a terrible series.
I can't believe anyone on the production didn't just say "okay everyone, let's just read the book and try to get as close as we can", in fact I reckon they just said "Ogilvy is a cool name, let's use that" and the rest is just nonsense.
Utter rubbish.
Joker (2019)
Just brilliant!
Anyone reviewing this less than a 10 is just being pretentious and trying to find something that's not there, watch this film for what it is and I promise you will not regret it. It's perfectly timed, perfectly intense and perfectly acted, oh and before anyone thinks I just went with "the hype" I didn't read anything about this film before I watched it! It could have been another CGI filled comic book film for all I knew as I try not to get caught up in other opinions, I went, I watched, I loved it.
Doom (2005)
Enjoy!
Wow some people do take things a little seriously. It's a film BASED on a game, if it was supposed to be the same as the game it would be about 6 hours long and confuse the hell (excuse the pun) out of non gamers. I took my 15 year old son and his mates to see Doom and we all enjoyed it and yes I have played all the games and so has my son. Okay the acting isn't great but it sort of fits the acting in games, besides if you like to see good acting go watch Pride and Prejudice. Like I said earlier it's only based on the game so if you like a decent gore type horror flick go see and ENJOY, don't get so hung up about the game thing.
