New Girl (2011)
New Girl, Old Story
This sitcom has also been played out many times before. It's been done, and overdone, and we are tired of seeing it. First, why would these three men need a roommate? Why would she move in with three strangers? Too contrived to be convincing. Zooey is cute, but she is exactly the same in every single thing she is in. I kept thinking of the movie Elf and that naiveté that was at once cute and annoying. Here it is more annoying than cute.
This one will be cut from the line up soon and with good reason. At any time, on many stations, you can find similar situation comedies playing out before your eyes. Most are done better.
I don't think there can ever really be a workable remake of Friends. I truly wish they would stop trying. It is the ruin of many careers.
2 Broke Girls (2011)
Potential? Maybe
First off, Kat Dennings' voice annoys me to no end, added to that her accent and hardness make her a tough character to like. She is too sarcastic and condescending. Who besides a completely self indulgent mother would hire her to babysit the kids? Hardly believable. Working as a waitress, yup, that is believable. Having the hunk of a boyfriend, even if he is a total jerk, no, not happening. There is not much to like about 'Max'. Beth Behrs' character Caroline is so Paris Hilton. Did she watch all the back shows of "the Simple Life"? No one likes Paris Hilton. Caroline went to Wharton School of Business and yet has no clue how to do anything?? Come on. At least make it believable. No one is that stupid, even Paris.
You know the show is reaching when there are masturbating jokes. Seriously? IS this Sex in the City hits the slums of NYC? It is a prime time show. IF you can't make people laugh without that kind of humor, you know you don't have what it takes.
Whitney (2011)
sad, sarcastic(not in the funny way), stupid, and boring
This is absolutely one of the worst pilot/premieres I have ever had the misfortune to watch. I sat through 80%, but I could not stomach it any further.
Whitney is a whiny, sarcastic jealous creep that demands her live-in boyfriend take her out for a first date. Why? Because she slept with him within hours of meeting him. Both of them have no values. Now Whitney wants to go back in time. Alex is clueless, and rightfully so, but, come on, how long can you be stupid on the same topic.
Not one of the characters were believable or likable. It is a sad remake of every other successful sitcom that has already been made.
Whitney's facial expressions drove me to the brink of wanting to have someone, anyone, slap her upside the head.
Bottom line......do not waste your time or energy on this one.
The Tenth Circle (2008)
Not at all impressed with the version
I just finished watching the "Tenth Circle" on lifetime. I wanted to enjoy the movie, truly I did. But, I did not like it at all. The characters were not at all developed. Daniel looks way too feminine to be the strong silent father who hides a secret. Trixie comes off as much more mature than 15 and in completely unconvincing in her role as a victim or confused and angst teenager. Why couldn't they make her the red head as was in the book? Why a blond bimbo looking girl? Kelly Preston as Laura was flat and unmoving. I felt nothing for her or her position. When she was telling her version of events - I yawned.
While I know it is tough to transform a good book into a good movie, it seems little effort, if any was put into this movie. The movie makes many changes, that initially one would not think would make a difference, but, they truly do. Subtle yet important differences, that in the end make the difference between a good story and a blah waste of two hours.
This movie could have been completed in 15 minutes.
What a waste of talent.
The Secret Life of the American Teenager (2008)
Bad acting, some good moments
While I commend the show for going in uncharted territory, I think that this show is missing the boat. 1) Ben and Amy have known each other for a few weeks and are already in 'love'? Come on. Sure, we know teens say such things, but the adults are behind it? Ben is obsessed with her? She is in love with him? I don't buy it. She is pregnant, her brain is not on a boyfriend, she would be more apt to talk to her girlfriends, or sister. Ben proposes? His father is OK with that? 2) Amy is 'showing' after two maybe three months? Hardly, especially in a young girl. And by episode 8 - or maybe 3 months along, the baby is kicking?? NO! 3) Amy's dad can't act to save his life. Man, I could do my line better.
This show is like a bad after school special! Don't get pregnant. I hope and pray that this show doesn't try and sugarcoat this. As it is the prego girl gets a boyfriend. In real like that would not be happening.
The Obsession (2006)
Cheesy
This movie needs to serve crackers for as cheesy as it is! The entire plot is predictable and b-o-r-i-n-g.
Daphne needs some serious acting lessons - does she play the same character in everything she does? Always a surprised victim, duh! Actually ALL of the performers need to learn to act. I think the local elementary school would have done a more convincing job!
The dancing is good, but it can't save this made for TV movie.
Save yourself the time and trouble, sit down and watch the dust settle on the mantle for more entertainment! Because this will bore you to death! Y U C K!
