Riding the D with Dr. Seeds: The Webseries (2020)
Born and Raised in NY riding this train
Rode the D train. Many funny characters then and in this series. Ms. Seeds is a force in comedy writing and acting.
The directing and camera work great too.
Excellent team assembled.
Dark Horse (2015)
Great movie. Lives enriched by an animal to a very high level.
This movie is about a bunch of human friends who do not have movie star looks nor a lot of money. They chip in to syndicate the birth of a race horse. They go into the financial details and negotiations in a good humored way. The mating process happens and the horse born is a beautiful creature.
The connection of this horse to the owners might be more sentimental than average because they are not rich people. They are not experienced but hire an experienced trainer.
Some of the discussions take place at a pub table. There is some digression, mostly humorous. The background music is simply beautiful classical.
If you have gone to a race or ridden or touched a horse you know they have a personality. You get that from this movie. You might feel greater things about your pets.
The horse is not perfect. I will not divulge any race results. We all have our own first and last races. I won't mention how much they invested nor if they gained or lost money. In the end, this is a movie about working friendships and collaboration between humans and animals. A beautiful movie which evokes emotions and memories. This is a great movie about great relationships with a great animal. And we are all imperfect even the great.
Like Sunday, Like Rain (2014)
Love the movie but Euler is mispronounced.
I stumbled on this movie, possibly because I have been looking at road trips and buddy movies. This is an unusual and charming movie. A low budget movie shot in the boroughs of New York. I grew up in Queens. I watch a lot of movies and cannot think of any largely similar one involving a precocious rich male prodigy and young adult female with great musical talent but whose financial resources had detoured her dreams. There is a classroom scene which is beautiful and describe a lot about the young boy and a teacher. Unless intentional for some reason the teacher mispronounced Euler and all even smart students learned that way https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07HCb0eR9iY Congratulations especially to Frank Whaley whose acting work I knew. Julian Shatkin reminded me so much of my early days at Stuyvesant High School. Leighton Meester impressed me much as I did not know her much from her Television work, but she has some future in movies. Great casting by Allison Estrin for bit roles too. Very strong and sensitive performances.
Passion to the Max (2006)
Pray to the Bobble-head Jesus
I saw this at the Cleveland Indie Gathering 2006 What a pisser! Laughed my butt off. More laughs in a few minutes ( it's a short ) than many full-length movies ( alleged comedies ) these days Kudos to the actors, director, production. True to the old Mad Max mentality. The cars, the fire. The lead actor who plays Mel and the non-believer will stay in my mind log after most of the entries in this festival are relegated to the bottom drawer of my memory
Especially with the timing of Mel's drunk driving ? This short should have won best EVERYTHING. And I have a Jesus bobble-head too. But not dressed up as well. Best of luck to all those involved.
