You dropped the harmonica!

Honestly this is a fun Road Warrior reinterpretation. Brion James does his best and Bo Svenson has a fairly significant side role. The early car chase scene is pretty damn good! But Joe Lara's long Jesus hair is hilarious and you can tell he's kind of trying to do his best to work around it at times. The action is plentiful and well staged and there are some interesting characters - one who's so interesting you'll want him killed off as soon as he opens his mouth! But all in all quite a satisfying sci-fi action film that's certainly dumb - but they know what they're doing and everyone's having a great time. Highly enjoyable Sunday afternoon action flick.

Dumb fun and some boobs
27 March 2024
This one has some terrible dialogue and sub par special effects. It also has an alcoholic Aldo Ray as some kind of government employee. Angelique Pettyjohn shows off her "assets" in a few scenes but her wig is obvious and nearly falls off! The alien monster is the director's son. The plot revolves around Angelique's ability to channel psychic vibes and transfer creatures (and a tiny little statue!?!) from outer space to the Earth. Of course this is done with the help of a scientist and his laboratory deep in the southwest, probably where many westerns of the 50s and 60s were filmed. A lot of the scenes are shot at night. There's also a little gore and some creature makeup. Good late night viewing! Especially if you put your brain on idle for a while. 3 out of 10 .

Enigma anime
22 February 2024
Not really an action anime. The tales are enigmatic and often (seemingly) unfulfilling. There's a very fatalistic aspect in this anime, but mostly it's not the protagonist. The fatalism comes with just about every other character in each story. What Eat Man does to the viewer is allow interpretation on many different levels. The animation is often fairly sparse, but intriguingly crafted. The music is minimal as well, except for the opening and closing title music. Bolt Crank is a mercenary (explorer) who eats metal and drinks oil, and can produce various weapons from his hand, mostly the right hand, but I think occasionally with the left (?). This fascinating anime leaves conclusions to the viewer. It's really quite unique and melancholy. Eat-Man is set in an alternate universe future. 8 out of 10 stars from me.

If you could just take it as a parody
29 January 2024
I'd like to unsee this movie. I'm a fan of Have Gun Will Travel, excellent TV Western. But Boone was a product of his generation and this seventies sci Fi film is an example of why heroes die when you finally meet them. He is the same character as he was in the 50 s, but this translates awfully. He's incredibly sexist in a modern society/culture, and even racist in a patronizing way that would have even pissed off Paladin back then! The dinos are rubber suits and the dialogue is entertainingly bad. I would advise not watching this if you have a soft heart for Paladin - the Have Gun / Will Travel days. Joan Van Ark does the best with the crappy dialogue and action.. All the other actors just seem kind of freaked out! Terrible, but possibly entertaining for some.

Crude, weird
14 December 2023
This strange cartoon show from the 60s is very crudely animated and disturbingly weird. One episode is about a kid whose dad remarries a witch in disguise who sends the stepdaughter to her sister's house to be eaten. Yep, you heard that right. Nothing at all makes any sense when a little bird tells her to hold onto certain things she'll need on her journey. These items do end up saving her life, but in truly bizarre ways which will end up only making your kids scratch their heads and ask strange questions.

If my parents had sat me down in front of this shoestring budget animation back then, I think I would have had nightmares. Seriously! Don't let the high rating fool you. Avoid this drivel and instead take your kids out for a day at the playground.

Dumb fun
5 December 2023
This movie is as dumb as a bowl of Lucky charms with no milk. It looks really good though! There are lots of monsters and some of the sets are interesting. But the writing is horrendous and and full of plot holes. Like what in the hell was up with the meteor crashing into planet Earth at the beginning?!?! They seriously want us to believe that people aboard that fiery meteor survived in the ocean for thousands of years. Ridiculous. But for a Saturday afternoon with nothing else to do it's fun! You can watch it right now for free on Tubi. I myself would not spend any money on this one. So grab a soft drink and a bowl of popcorn and set your brain to the side.

Starts off running...
15 August 2023
And then stumbles over the cliff. But the beginning is very intriguing and sets up more than it eventually offers. A statue of the crucifixion comes to life (very effectively filmed) and possesss a young art student. She then starts acting like Reagan from The Exorcist, sort of.

Honestly nothing much happens after the initial possession and even the effects budget seems to just dissolve. You get to see her puke though. It isn't even green - and if you can stay awake you'll see her bust out of her room and plow through the flimsiest iron bars I have ever seen.

I would say to the curious, watch the beginning for the crucifixion statue coming to life.
