Little House on the Prairie: The Collection (1976)
Why Me Lord? The Ring of Fire
To me, the measure of an actor is whether you forget their previous work during his performance.
Lorne Green was featured in an episode of Highway to Heaven; after a few seconds, I no longer saw Ben and little Joe.
Johnny Cash is Johnny Cash.
While June Carter Cash is part of a legendary Nashville family, she seems to just tag-along with Johnny Cash.
Mary should have uncovered the scam sooner based on the lyrics of the cleric's song.
While it's better than the Nellie clone (Nancy Oleson)episodes in later seasons, it's not one of Landon's stringer shows.
Elvis on Tour (1972)
Prince from Another Planet
I first saw Elvis on Tour when it played on prime-time TV in 1975. Elvis referred to the TV broadcast in a live concert recording first released in 1981.
I own Elvis on Tour on VHS, laser disc and blu ray. I watched the VHS tape about 7 times in a row -- the movie is great and I only had the rental VCR for the week.
I like the Don't be Cruel opening on the blue ray version. It has more drive than the rehearsal recording of Johnny be Good. That said, Chuck Berry ruined the intended intro by denying rights to the song.
It would have been great if Elvis built upon his successes in the early 70s rather than riding out the last two years.
Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii (1973)
This is Elvis
When I hear "Elvis", Aloha from Hawaii is the first thing that comes to mind.
I have this show on VHS, laser disc and multiple editions on DVD,as well as the audio on LP and CD.
Arguably Elvis on Stage in Memphis captured a better live performance, Aloha is spectacular to watch.
Little House on the Prairie: Whisper Country (1978)
Soild Performance
I had forgotten that Little House had great story-lines and acting. This is an engaging episode from a very strong season.
It's amusing that Mary's suitcase was identical to the suitcase used by other townsfolk in earlier episodes. Perhaps Mrs. Oleson got a good deal from her supplier.
