Baby Reindeer (2024)

Brilliant. Brave. Raw.
15 April 2024
I'm sitting up at 1:30 am writing this review because this mini-series earned it. I just binged the whole thing tonight. For context, I'm usually lights out by 9.

There's a lot to unpack in Baby Reindeer, so I recommend watching it for yourself. Just watch it. Seriously.

This truly is fantastically written suspense, only increased by the fact that it's a true story. I was instantly sucked in by it. It's also really brave and honest storytelling, raw and human. I can't remember the last time I watched something so vividly real.

I haven't been so impressed in a very long time, and can't recommend this watch highly enough. 10/10 and more.

Too complex to be condensed
10 November 2023
If I hadn't read this series first, I might be content. With that said, the plot and character development are too complex to be condensed for TV. It doesn't do it justice. There's too much left out, too much outright changed, frankly.

I will add the casting for Robin is spot on, but not for Cormoran. Cormoran is portrayed nearly 10 years younger than he is and as a soft-spoken, pensive man when in the books he's actually temperamental, loud and gruff.

So, if you haven't read the books, please don't until after you've finished watching and enjoying this first. Then you can get to the real goodies - truly lovely books.

Ignore the bad reviews, here's why:
18 March 2023
Step 1: don't watch this movie before watching the show. The show is phenomenal, especially seasons 1-3. People complaining about character development either haven't watched the show, or they're just bitter this isn't season 6.

Step 2: after watching the show, watch the movie. You'll be jonesing for more Luther, and you'll be grateful for it. Not as grateful as those of us who've been waiting since 2019, but whatever.

Step 3: appreciate the order. The most important character development occurred in those seasons, giving context to layered characters like Luther and Schenk.

Step 4: hold on for a fast-paced dark and thrilling crime drama - the thing the BBC does so well. Enjoy Elba bringing this lion of a character to our screens again. Hope that this allows for more to come.
