Mind the Gap (2004)
check out his other work
This was the third film I've seen written & directed by Eric Schaeffer. If you liked this film, please check out his movie "Fall". It could be classified as a romance, but not the kind that would ever cast Jennifer Aniston or Meg Ryan. "Fall" is painful and passionate and clever, and unlike any movie I've seen since. It absolutely crushes you. I have also never witnessed such intense chemistry between two actors. It absolutely crushes you. Eric Schaeffer plays the lead role himself. So far, he always stars in his own movies. In his movie "If Lucy Fell", he plays opposite Sara Jessica Parker. I'd recommend seeing this after "Fall" or "Mind the Gap" so you get a feel for Schaeffer's style first. "If Lucy Fell" is much more light-hearted than his other movies; but very witty, fun, and strange. Ben Stiller plays a hilarious role as a stereotypical artist who lives life in the abstract. I love Eric Schaeffer! I only hope he continues to bless us with his work.
Capote (2005)
mediocre
Although I have heard of Capote, he was before my time and I knew little to nothing about him before seeing this film. Overall, I wasn't impressed. Phillip Seymour Hoffman was the redeeming quality; I always enjoy watching him work, and he did a phenomenal acting job. The movie kept my attention for the most part, and gave me a few laughs, but it failed to move me. Once I left the theater, I ceased thinking about the movie, which is never a good sign. Although I don't regret seeing this movie, I probably won't watch it again. I did like the actor Clifton Collins, Jr, who played Perry Smith. His acting was mesmerizing, and I wasn't sure what opinion to have of his character. He was this cold-blooded killer, but you couldn't help but sympathize with him at times, with his sad eyes and enigmatic motive.
Garden State (2004)
four stars
I'm a big movie fan and a huge movie snob. I'm very particular about movies I like, and I did like Garden State. I was pleasantly surprised to find the movie was actually FUNNY. If it hadn't been, I might not have liked it as much. I too hate movies that try to make you feel as depressed as the depressed character...but in this movie you kind of knew that he was going to be okay. I wasn't crazy about Natalie's character..just seemed a little too "cute" and overacted. But I loved Largeman, he was all too relatable. I loved how he reacted to people he didn't really care for, just kind of going through the social motions we all do.
