Dying Breed (2017)
The film 'Dying Breed which will cause you to contemplate life and its true value.
I recently attended Newlyn Film house to see the film 'Dying Breed' shot by Film maker Mick Catmull. I would thoroughly recommend this film which captures the traditional way of life of 3 small scale Cornish Farming families. Beautifully filmed through the ever changing seasons and landscape of West Cornwall, this film gently examines the way of life, motivation and challenges faced by the farmers it features. It moves from a calf being born, to cattle kicking up their heels on their first day in the freedom outdoors running through the fields ('the fresh air gets to them'), to the market and the passing of life. Also observing the farmers, their observations on life and their outside interests moving into the communities they live in.
It a moving tribute to a way of life which is passing us by without our full realisation or mourning, making way for the fast paced, short lived, unsustainable future of large scale factory farming to meet the demands of today, of the supermarket and of modern day life. A future without morals, without depth and without true value, producing cheap food for this moment.
This film will cause you to think about life and what is its true value.
