Mirrors (2008)
How come this has such a high score on IMDb?
I made a terrible mistake by relying on this movie's score here on IMDb and gave it a try. It took me two days to try and finish this nonsense, trying to pause for sandwiches, phone calls I didn't want to make and even doing bits of work - anything just in order to not continue. I felt, however, that if I follow fellow spectators's advice, the plot was going to suddenly give me at least *some* thrills that the beginning/development of the movie failed to deliver.
No way it's anywhere near a 6. This movie is ridiculous crap. Don't bother, it won't even work as a time killer. Just find something else to watch.
I am not sure how they lured Keifer Sutherland into this project, it must have been about money vs effort implied. But I must say, it looks like he tried to be an actor through this disaster and work off the money, while everyone else involved was wiser and didn't bother acting.
Plain awful, it will bore you out of your trousers.
XX (2017)
A welcome spark of imagination in a horror story
To those who are into something original - go for it. It's really fresh, stylish and also rewarding for those who are into black humour. If you compare 'XX' to the main Hollywood horror produce (most of which is incredible rubbish these days) - you'll get what I mean by saying all of the aspects of this film are so welcome.
Non-standard format (seperate non-overlapping stories), unexpected interpretation of human emotions (as in 'The Birthday Party'), as well as emotional dysfunctions (The Box), followed by a fallback to more classic horror ('Don't Fall') - all have something interesting to offer.
Forget who the film is made by: essentially, it doesn't matter. Just enjoy something we, horror lovers, haven't seen for a while - a spark of imagination.
