Spectral (2016)
Entertaining!
I was pleasantly surprised watching this Sci-Fi thriller of a war movie. The scenery was engaging and spot on camera work was unobtrusive, some of the soldiers acting was not too believable but all in all the overall effect was a continuous ride of a story played out till the end. Bravo for that! The special effects were done well and blended in with the scenery. Some movies you can pause to hit the bathroom, this one didn't have many of those opportunities. At one point I was literally at the edge of my seat watching some action unfold. I would definitely recommend watching this movie, I am on the fence whether or not it belongs in my DVD/BlueRay collection.
Battle of the Damned (2013)
What is better then a zombie movie? A zombie movie with robots!
I was entertained. First off, it contains Dolph Lundgren, you know what kind of movie it is. He doesn't disappoint, while no Arnie, Dolph handles his one-liners while killing zombies and surviving while all around him die.
Although the zombie attacks are less and lees in the middle of the film, they come back with a running vengeance that overwhelms most of the survivors.
The plot is thin and basic, but the added adventures when the robots come into the picture change the course of their actions quickly.
Good for a popcorn night in.
The Hooligan Wars (2012)
One of the better final scenes I have watched
There is plenty of blood sweat and tears in this movie, but what I was impressed mostly was the ending. You know how some movies have it all then at the end its like what the heck just happened here? Are you serious? Well not in this movie. One of the better final scenes I have watched in recent memory. The film revolves around Andy and his expecting wife Stacey and Stacey's brother one of Andy's mates. Andy receives a bad injury during some hooligan antics and doctors tell him any career in sports is gone. Andy gets involved with dubious characters and his role with them starts to spiral out of control. Good acting, worthy film.
Ghoul (2012)
Not a bad film...
Not a bad film, good acting and make-up, good story line. Not sure why others have to group this film as 'stand by me' wanna-be film, it's not, although it does have kids as the lead and they do find a dead body, but its not in the same context as stand by me.I agree it's not really a horror movie, but then again there are parts that might make you jump.
I like the way they told this tale and if it has to involve certain scenes that others call distasteful and they resort to calling a liker of the film a "tumble weed of trash", they sound rather prudish. This is the world we live in, there are evil (wo)man out there and this film is entertaining.
Rampart (2011)
A let down of epic proportions...
Let me start off by saying, I am a Woody Harrelson fan. Rampart was like a giant hot lava magma flow... without the lava, fire or heat. Without even the hot air one would expect with a movie surrounding LAPD during the Daryl Gates era. Woody was no Saint, but please the most corrupt cop ever? Apparently someone did not see Bad Lieutenant with Harvey Keitel, now that was a bad cop. There was no cinematography, no great dialog, no innovative camera angles. Woody was way too literate for this role of a corrupt cop. I was deeply disappointed with the film, especial the lack-luster ending.. oh wait there was no ending it just ended after he was caught y his daughter skulking in the bushes at his former house. There was no confrontation, just credits rolling. Save your time and watch Bad Lieutenant again.
Vanishing on 7th Street (2010)
There is no ending...
Something makes me write a review, I would not normally write a review for a mediocre movie, so this movie either excelled or was lame beyond bad. The later is the case. The movie was working fine till it ended. There is no ending. What a director cop out. I hate movies with no ending. A.) There was never an explanation nor a reason that Leguizamo's character was "kidnapped" for a bunch of hours. And B.) there is no explanation for the "darkness". Well that's the whole movie. A few other, why did that happen questions will roam through your head. No answers, only questions. Don't bother with this one, it will only make you wish you spent more time with something that mattered.
The 7th Hunt (2009)
Duplicate scenes, bad effects and poor acting.
My first, as far as I remember, review. I love a good kill 'em all movie. I even like some of the macabre cult classics, but this was fairly insulting to my movie senses.
Aside from scenes that were repeated, the acting was bad, the gore was was 'eh', but it was the scenes and reasonless killings with characters that had no real business being in the plot (Chris) and no continuous cohesive thought.
I knew the movie was rubbish when the deaf girl was looking at her shot leg and saying 'why did you shoot me in the leg I was going to represent in the Nationals' - that scene was so trying to go for your heart strings but failed.
This is a "I don't have anything better to do with my time" movie.
Cube Zero (2004)
Cube Zero is a must see for The Cube Series Fans
The 3rd produced in the cube series, this particular one seems like it was a necessary finishing touch to provide a circle back to the original cube. In the end when the main character is in the surgery room, he then wakes up inside the cube as a handicapped guy, the same one who started off the series?!! I guess I am not the only person who thought this.. as I just 'googled' The Cube and on wikipedia they also mention that some believe this movie was more of a prequel than a sequel. The acting may not have been great, however it did not detract from the movies enjoyment. As far as some of the other comments regarding the rehashing of old traps and such, if indeed this was a prequel and not another chapter in order, then all they did was touch on the fact that traps were there, however the focus was not on the traps themselves, but the operators of the system that built the traps. Again the movie only hinted at who or what ran the cube up the food chain, but again its another insight into the cube's origin. Cube 4? I'll watch it.
