Nekromantik (1988)
2/10
I don't get the other reviews..
11 September 2020
Let me start off by saying that I am a sucker for the weirdest and most disturbing things you can find. I haven't seen a lot of "very" disturbing films but I am going down the list.

Nekromantik is considered very disturbing by many, having even been banned in quite an amount of countries. I don't know if it's because of the time of release but it just is not disturbing to me in the slightest. Yeah, the main themes in this film are weird and only a sick person can come up with them, but... the execution / effects are just so terrible that it made me laugh. Everything about this film was horrible. The awful random music and acting was disturbing, if anything. The infamous scenes too were just very laughable as they were horrible to look at in terms of realness / how much it was trying too hard to be disturbing.

This film has no redeeming qualities at all. It does not shock/disturb me (what it really tries to do too much), the acting is like non-existent; that's how terrible it is, the music makes no sense at all and irritated me a lot and the plot... yeah there is not really any plot either.

I somehow finished it in the hopes it would achieve only a fragment of what it wanted to do, but alas; in the end this was a waste of time.

Kept me on the edge of my seat!
27 May 2020
Wow this was such a highly intense film, which I did not expect at all. It made me very hyped up and energetic while nervous of what happened next in this film.

This film is about a young drummer aspiring to be the next biggest hit. As he came under a mentor, he started having a high dunk of himself. Too high. This was a very intense ride of a film as you saw the uprising, downfall and once again uprising of this young drummer. The acting in this film was phenomenal besides that, especially the performance of this young drummer, played by Miles Teller. He truly only saw one way out which was forwards. He got blinded by success, but in the end managed to escape the spiraling downfall he was getting into.

This film honestly made me quite speechless, as probably can be seen from my review, because I am writing this right after having finished the film.

I recommend everyone to watch this film even if you don't find drumming appealing at all. because this film surely will keep you on the edge of your seat like it did to me.

Really powerful and inspirational but..
24 May 2020
Let me start off by saying that what this film is based on, truly is really really powerful and really inspirational. It also makes you realize what simple things in life we take for granted, like walking. If that suddenly gets taken away from you it's like your world falls apart.. everyone around you suddenly needs to adapt as well and it just breaks a lot of relationships.. yet Jeff Bauman, in this film portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal shows us how to recover from such a terrible thing and to live life to the fullest.

The film itself portrayed this event, yet.. it felt lacking. Jake Gyllenhaal did an outstanding job in my oppinion but overall the general film felt quite boring and a drag.. the plot felt repetitive and lacked depth, just like the characters did. It definitely had some powerful moments in the film, but it felt like it didn't do true justice over the actual event. Overall it was not a bad film, it just felt like it had more potential than it brought out.

The Room (2019)
3/10
Very nice concept, very bad execution
3 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
MANY SPOILERS AHEAD.

Sigh.. Another film where I thought the concept was great but the execution was horrible..

This film is about a couple moving into a house with what they later realize, a very special room. This room will materialize any wish; whether it's millions of dollars, the best wine or caviar or even a child: a simple wish and it will be yours. Because of 2 failed pregnancy test the lady wished for the latter. However, there is a twist. Each thing that came from that room can not leave the house, because otherwise it will evaporate into dust. When the baby went outside the house, he became a child as he aged real quickly.

Now the basic idea of the film is out of the way, here are some points I found real bad about the film:

The acting. This honestly felt really, really bad. I don't know if it was just how the script was made or how the actors portrayed it, but man was it a pain to watch. It felt very unnatural and strange overall.

The characters. The 3 main characters in this film were horrible. Their interactions with each other, the communication, the lack of character development; it all lead to a disappointment.

The plot holes. Man, this film had a bunch of plot holes. The thing is, the child could live in the outside world if the creator of it would die. This means that the lady would have to die so the child can live on in the real world. This is what happened with the previous owners of the house who also had a child; the mom killed the dad and the mom forced the child to kill her, so he could live on... but WHY would you? This room has shown that it can literally create worlds within the house. The child found out the room and wished for an entire forest. You literally can have anything you want within that house, WHY would you want to even kill yourself so the child could live in the sad real world where he has to work for his food? I just don't get it.. That's the main plot hole that just left me speechless..

All in all I really would not just watch this film. If you read this review you see me really bashing on the film, making you wonder why it's not a 1/10 rating I presume. This is because of the concept; the film had a ton of potential with a concept like that but sadly wasted it. The concept stays great, so hence the 3/10.

Great humor and realism
3 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Seth Rogen always plays part in hilarious films in my opinion.

I love the humor in this film, even the sheer amount of awkwardness from the protagonists makes me smile and chuckle, making this film very enjoyable to watch. It felt very cringy at times but funny at the same time. Overall the acting felt quite real too. It felt like I was just watching an adventure of 3 very socially awkward guys on their way to become less socially awkward and actually hook-up with some girls.

The last scene of the film was a quite sad one. A very realistic one at that, one that I can relate to quite a bunch. Almost always people grow apart from each other, especially with something like transisitioning from highschool to college/university. You or them might get a girlfriend (in a guys' view) so you can spend less time together. That and you move to different schools, so that makes for even less time; which makes the friendship go even further apart. For a film that feels like such dumb humor fun like this one, it had an awful lot of realism as we saw great friends spending their adventure, which may even be the last one judging from that last scene.

I definitely recommend this film if you want to be slapped by reality while having great laughs!

Raw, real and powerful
20 April 2020
This film is among the films that I will only have to had seen once, because this will be forever engraved into my brain. The pure terror from that time, displayed so real into a film.

This film did not twist around anything; there was no laughter, nor was there any hope for a lot of people during that time there. The pure horror that all of them had to go through was perfectly displayed in this film. Oskar Schindler, the saving grace himself was amazing. Saving so many people from their terrible future by giving them jobs on his own expenses; simply amazing. The film was generally really powerful too not only because of the display of the subject at hand, but because of the acting, emotions felt throughout, the writing, the directing and the usage of black and white with two exclusions: the little girl with the red coat and the flames of the candles. The former being quite a powerful symbol in the film too.

Beautifully crafted film that deserves all the praise it has been given.

One does not simply not watch LotR
19 April 2020
Let me start of by saying the amount of world and character building in LotR is unlike any other fantasy series. There is so much to this fantasy world, with many interesting characters; from monsters to hobbits.

This is the first time I am watching a LotR and I am definitely not disappointed, however I did have higher hopes for this. In general the film didn't really grip me so well as I thought it would. The acting was really nice, the scenery and fight scenes were wonderful, but yet it was hard at times to keep my attention to it, hence the not so high rating. That doesn't take away that I did enjoy watching this film quite a bit, and look forward to the next parts.

I recommend this film to anyone who hasn't seen it yet and is interested in fantasy, combined with quite a bit of action.

12 Angry Men (1957)

Simple, yet so good
19 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Let me start off by saying that at the point of writing a review for this film, I am 19 years old. I grew up with action packed, CGI-filled, heavy scenery changing films. A film like this however, is completely new territory for me. I feel like during this film I would appreciate it even more than I have, if I would be older. It was a bit too psychological for me.

Despite this being a heavy film to swallow, it was a really good film. Most of the film took place in one single room, with 12 men - from the jury - arguing whether an 18 year old boy should be found guilty of commiting the murder on his father. That's the whole film. But this sheer simplicity combined with one of the most fantastic acting in a film I have ever seen by every single one of the 12 juries, made up for such a good film. The amount of emotions and words flying through that room felt so real. This and that the camerawork for the time was really nice, made me feel like I wasn't watching a film. It made me feel like I was watching 12 men of the jury argue a lot, and I was just there spectating them.

It was a really interesting film and I definitely recommend anyone this film, and I will get back to this film in the future. A film from 1957 still being so good to this day honestly amazes me, and that's just what 12 Angry Men does.

A timeless classic
19 April 2020
This film to this date - 26 years after having been released - still is such a classic. I am a sucker for prison films to begin with, so I could not let this piece go by so easily.

This film knows how to grip you intensely. Throughout the whole film I sat there in awe of how great the film was. The phenomenal acting, combined with the amazing writing, story and music makes up for an amazing film that everyone should see. While I was watching the film, I felt a range of emotions; and that's to me what makes a good film. It made me feel emotional, which is a really tough thing to do; few films have done this to me. Besides feeling emotional at times, I also felt happy and excited. It is safe to say that I haven't felt bored, unentertained or feeling regret for sitting through this film a single moment of the film. Morgan Freeman truly has been a gift to the world, because I really love his narration during this film; it just completes an already amazing film. I honestly can't imagine this film without his narration, but I can definitely say that it still would be amazing nonetheless.

It can be said with certainty that this film will stay a timeless classic, for generations to follow and love. Thank you Stephen King for the original book, and thank you Frank Darabont for making this story come to life so well because of your amazing directing.

Suicide Squad (2016)
3/10
What a miss, what a miss..
18 April 2020
Sigh... where to begin with this film...

So, the characters.. DC was trying to jump the Avengers bandwagon and failed. Whereas Marvel made multiple films building character and progression, DC threw a bunch of new antiheroes together and called it the Suicide Squad. The only character I liked was Margot Robbie playing Harley Quinn, the rest was really bland/boring and had little to no value. I also really dislike Jared Leto's Joker, it was a disaster to say the least... And even Will Smith had such a bad role, which I don't blame him for but I blame the terrible writing of this. Because oh man, the plot was... non-existent. What plot even? Some random antiheroes fighting some shady looking monsters, freeing a woman from a so-called "powerful" monster and then they live happily ever after... not. They just go straight back to where they came from; their cells. Oh and don't even get me started about the very random songs they threw in for no reason. It made me even more disconnected with the film. I don't even want to know how much they've paid for these missmatches of songs throughout the film.

This film literally was useless. No character development, no real story, random music, and really boring and difficult to sit through in general. Avoid this film at all costs.

A big mistake..
18 April 2020
This film was a very big mistake. There was little to no plot, a very bland villain who had a nice entry but then just disappeared quickly, after only having seen little of him. It hardly felt like a superheroes versus villain film because of this. The writing was horrible, so even the cast couldn't save this disaster. Also, a budget of $300M?? The CGI was really bad at times, especially for a film at that time. What did they spend so much money on? Nothing in this film was special or nice.. did they spend this all on drugs or something hence the film is such a joke? That would be my only logical explanation... this just wasn't it.

Don't waste your time on it. I honestly don't even know how I sat through the entirety of the film, although I did not have full attention through most it.

Pretty disappointing
18 April 2020
This film, having Ben Affleck as Batman felt quite disappointing.

I personally really don't like this Batman. Here he felt like a very selfish, self-proclaimed judge / executioner. In the Dark Knight trilogy he didn't feel like this at all, which is why I loved Batman there. But Superman is just Superman, so that was alright.

Besides that, there was not much of an intense or interesting plot, it all felt really bare. It was quite boring and nothing special. The appearance of Wonder Woman was a welcome one, because if even she wasn't here, the film would've been rated lower for me.

All in all I wouldn't watch this film, because there is just nothing you will really miss.

A good ending to a great trilogy
18 April 2020
So let me start out with the negatives. This film was the least great of the three in my opinion. It had some major plot holes and confusion at the ending. But that's also something that made it great, because it is an ending that could be interpreted in different ways. So in one way, it could not be seen as a major plot hole although it has in my book. Anywho, the main antagonist Bane is one of my favorites. Find out in the film to see why, because it sure took me by a bit of surprise. On the other hand, some other appearances were quite obvious to be, but still enjoyable nonetheless. In general Christopher Nolan has made an epic trilogy that surely will stay a classic over the years to follow.

Not the hero we need, but the hero we deserve.
17 April 2020
The sequel to Batman Begins, in Christopher Nolan's epic trilogy of Batman. While writing this review, this is the first time I have seen this film and just why have I not seen this earlier?? It was wonderful. It had my attention the whole way through. It was predictable at times, like any superhero film but it definitely is unlike your typical superhero film. It broke some clichés and had powerful directing making for great acting, amazing atmosphere, wonderful scenes and overall an epic story. I recommend this film to everyone if you haven't seen this already.

A great way to pick a series back from the grave
16 April 2020
Christopher Nolan did an outstanding job of picking up the batman series from the grave. The films felt like a downwards spiral, with each one getting progressively worse but Christopher Nolan proved that it is possible to making something like that great again. A renewed Batman, different from the old one. More humane and more backstory, as we first saw how Batman embraced his biggest fear and made it his icon. This is the first film I watched from the new trilogy, but I feel like this is a great beginning to a fantastic trilogy.

It just wasn't very good
16 April 2020
First of all let me say WOW I did not expect so many horrible ratings sorted by helpfulness, judging the average 7/10 for this film. I definitely wouldn't have watched it if I read these reviews beforehand, because they are right. The film deserves a little of praise, I love Danny and it had some nice elements in it but overall it was really messy and had a really dumb plot with very random scenes that didn't fit well at all. I would avoid this film if I was you, despite seeing the 7/10 average; which it really doesn't deserve.

A very nice classic!
15 April 2020
I am completely new to the Batman series; you heard me right. I have never seen a single Batman film before this one, and will be watching the next ones after this. This one got me instantly hooked. Of course I know who Batman and Joker are, plus some of their backstory and general idea of the series, but never something in-depth. This film definitely deserves to be called a classic, because it still is very great even to this day, despite being released over 30 years ago. I definitely recommend this film, and the Batman series if you havent seen it before, like me.

Decent, but had way more potential
13 April 2020
The bar was set very very high because of the first two parts, and this let me to be pretty disappointed by this third installment in the Godfather series. It had more potential than it used, which was a shame. There were definitely scenes that were powerful, but could've been even better if used better. It was still an alright film in general, but it does not compare with the other two parts. All in all the Godfather series is one of the best, and will stay one of the best.

Fantastic!
13 April 2020
The Godfather part 1 set a very high bar of expectations regarding part 2, and this part came nothing short of that! It's just a great film and nothing less. Everything works so well together; acting, writing, setting... it's all fantastic and makes the very long duration of the film easily able to sit through!

Beautiful film with harsh elements
12 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This film was absolutely beautiful! It was greatly written, edited and the camerawork was very nicely done! It's one of the few films that made me emotional by making me think about all the people actually living in slums, and that situations like in the film actually happen in real life too. Besides being so impactful and deep regarding this, this film also managed to make me have a feel-good feeling.

A simple teenager from the slums, a so-called "slumdog" becomes a millionaire in the famous gameshow 'who wants to be a millionaire' with everyone in disbelief, so much so that he gets tortured into trying to say that he cheated and howso. Because of telling his rough youth he debunked the cheating theory, and thus won the money.

Great mix of having deep thoughts to feeling good. Great film.

A good feel good film!
10 April 2020
Let me start off with the talented cast. Jon Favreau is great and to see people like Robert Downey Jr was great too. Nonetheless this is about a chef who got into a fight with a famous food critic, making him lose his job after he couldn't take the critisim, but then found his passion elsewhere at a food truck. Along the way father and son start to bond really well, as he previously couldn't due to his work. This and the very happy ending this film got were lovely to see. A great build up to a great finish to say the least. I recommend this film for sure.

A timeless classic!
25 March 2020
This film was way ahead of it's time, even to this day it's still the pinnacle of a masterpiece. Every single element of this is amazing. The cast, the acting, the writing, the settings, the directing... despite it being quite a long film, whereas I am known to be distracted more easily the longer a film is; this film made me hooked on it until the very last second. I just absolutely love the story too, such a well crafted Italian gangster film all about "la familia".. if you haven't seen this film yet what are you doing?? Watch it right now!!

No...
25 March 2020
So this film was heavily disappointing, I just couldn't pay full attention to it even if I tried with all my willpower. I am not taking in effect for how old the film is and how dreadful the effects were; because this is understandable. It was just sad though. I was hyped for seeing this, judging from all the good reviews but I just can't share the same opinion.. This James Bond didn't feel like the charming and cold man that he is later on in the frachise and the overall story and script felt very bland and bad. It was difficult to sit through this whole film, but I did it and even the rushed ending didn't make this film worth-while..

Disappointing
22 March 2020
Sadly this film was disappointing compared to the previous one. To me it really seems the James Bond series are either a hit or a miss. Casino Royale was good, Quantum of Solace was disappointing, Skyfall was great and this one, Spectre, is once again disappointing. It felt recycled and messy sadly.
