Searching (2018)
Interesting film
I really liked this movie. The way the entire movie plays out via social media and the internet is very well done and interesting. The only reason I didn't rate it higher was some parts seemed to fall flat. The dialog didn't ring true and seemed forced especially from the "news reporters". But the visuals were awesome. I would recommend this movie.
Dog Days (2018)
Cute Movie
I took my preteen granddaughters (who love dogs) to this movie. I thought it would probably turn out to be a lame silly movie but I actually liked it. It was a cute, funny and sweet movie. It was also so refreshing to watch a movie that didn't involve listening to profanity every three seconds. My girls and I loved it and we talked for about an hour afterward about the cute Chihuahua with the helmet!
A Quiet Place (2018)
Not bad but not good either
I didn't enjoy this movie but I did think the actors did a good job with the storyline they had. Very improbable plot which made me cringe. Some observations...
1. Why didn't the humans simply use noise over speakers to keep the monsters at bay? If they couldn't figure that out, them why not go live by the river where that noise would drown out the human noise?
2. A monster can burst through the heavy metal side of a grain silo but can't break into the cab of a pickup?
3. The story takes place over a year since the onset of the monsters. How did they plant acres of corn? By hand?
4. They had electricity to light thousands of light bulbs but had to use a lantern in their living quarters. Why? And where did the electricity come from? Generating electricity causes noise and you need people to accomplish it. It doesn't just come quietly from thin air.
5. If a shotgun can blow the monsters heads off then why not hide, ambush the monsters and kill them that way?
6. This was partially addressed in the film but if I lived during a time when any noise could bring imminent death, I sure as heck would not let my child walk alone far behind the rest of the family.
But the actors did do a good job especially Emily Blunt and Millicent Simmonds. And the direction was good. Just a terrible storyline.
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)
Just no
This movie serves no purpose. Unbelievable circumstances fill the screen with characters that seem like badly drawn out caricatures. There are no consequences for criminal behavior...people are beat up, thrown from windows, buildings are bombed and (in an extremely low point) children are kicked in the crotch and NO ONE is arrested or even questioned. And you know the writing is not good when every other word uttered is a profanity. Black comedy? No. Just no.
