The Rig (2023– )

Awesome potential, but a dry well
17 January 2023
This consent has all the possibilities of the Abyss, Alien, and other really cool horror/sci-fi shows and movies. The setting is a dark and scary drilling well in the middle of nowhere, it has a great cast and just oozes with potential.

However, instead of going for the horror/apocalypse/crew in a remote place facing unknown and scary happenings... it goes right into "Oil is bad" and "we are the problem" and instead of expanding the story it gives us scenes where people who literally make a living drilling oil, wax on and on about how terrible they are, the company is, and oil is just in general.

Went in looking for the motherload and ended up with a load of crap, Greta lovers preaching the gospel of climate change.

Don't waste your time with this one unless you're watching on a solar powered TV.

Should have known better...
11 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Should have stopped watching when the tiny man crawled inside his boyfriends cock... definitely after he exploded the man after growing large again. Episode 3 just finally did it and I war you before you start this series... beyond the horrific gore and questionable writing and acting, it has gained some deep woke overtones.

I'd suggest you don't even start watching it but if you do, just know that it really has no real point other than to shock you with images and a plethora of conjured depravity.

Surprisingly Ok.

No really... it wasn't a She hulk wins over kinda deal. Sure she single handedly saved America, but the way it played out made sense, she didn't overpower men three times her size, she used strategy and cunning. Some clever dialogue and other that the insane fact that this base doesn't exist, it was an interesting and kinda fun show. The bad guy is quite cute, and an alright actor too.

A bit much on the sexual harassment and villainization of the rich/right etc, but a bit to be expected in a modern flick. I fast forwarded some of the preachy stuff which made the run time a bit better.

A cute cameo for the leads actual husband, Chris Hemsworth as a tv salesman. Not a big budget action show, but worth you time if you want to zone out.

Wanted something new
3 June 2022
So far-- after episode 3 we get similar planets, same characters you get sure but the same people. The story isn't compelling, the "action" isn't all that fun. The writing and direction is really (so far) bland and standard. . As for any racism notions, that's silly, the 3rd sister is a fine actor but written badly. The Organa family is also BIPOC if we want to get specific and they are written very well and so they come across as good characters.

The 4th(?) brother is Asian and he's cool, Darth Vaders voice is as always awesome, so it's nothing to do with anyones race.try writing a good character and fans with like it.

Filler at best.

This is a heavy FF episode, I broke the skip button in fact, while I did watch the opening sequence that was the best part of the show. I do like the MD and that it's a he, not a lot of male MD's in sci-fi anymore.

Standard issue episode
23 September 2020
It's a foundational episode, giving some character development and a little scare or perhaps potential threat as they open up the city. Also establishing more city functions. Not much FF (fast forward) in this one, even if it is a bit basic.

Not a terrible start
23 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Well... it's a good series and this gives it a nice start. I like the connections to SG-1 The cast is okay, McKay is very very hard to watch at this state I his character development and the others are fine. Except the Rainbow sun guy, he is for some reason the most grating actor and character I've ever watched. It's good that he dies off in the not too distant future. Anyway, good start.

Not Rick and Morty

But it isn't even Trek. It tries to do both and fails at both. Do yourself a favor and avoids this at all costs. It's frankly insulting.

9 stars Plus 1
7 August 2020
If you want to nitpick a science fiction show, this is the one. If you want to really enjoy a science fiction show, this is for sure the one. The cast is fun and have a good chemistry, the special effects are surprisingly good Some of the lines are terribly cheesy, memorable and fun. The main story is ridiculous and completely fun. It has a great division into set up, build up, adventure and escape. I have seen this almost 20 times and it never, ever gets old. 9 stars for the fun, 1 for the terrible science. You want realism, realistic hard science, go watch a documentary... I'll watch a 40' model of the coliseum explode.

Utopia Falls (2020)

1984 the Musical
7 April 2020
Do you want to live in a Communist dictatorship, ruled by a divers cast of dancers? Welcome to Utopia Falls!

This show is so simplistic in design and presentation that it makes you wish this was a show about how the world ended, rather than what came after. In fact, if you look deeply into the construction you can see the creators took little parts of nearly every post apocalyptic society from Orwells 1984, the Hunger Games, City of Ember and added a dash of America's got talent. Nothing clever, nothing new and nothing.

I would say this is a complete abandonment of entertainment and creativity for the sake of making some sort of overall point, but I can't find any point to be made. Scratch this review, now it makes sense... this is exactly what the modern brainwashed teen is looking for, have at it, INGSOC forever baby!!!

Not really War of the Worlds
5 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
At the time of writing this, we are in a global emergency. People are freaking out, buying TP for an army, assuming the worst and generally constantly on edge. From seeing the reality of a global emergency and real people reacting to it... you can not help but wonder where the emotion is in this series. people are literally dead everywhere, robots are hunting the last humans down. The world has ended and they aren't trying to survive at all, The frequently leave guns, food, supplies just sitting there. They don't seem upset that 99% of humanity is lying rotting on the ground, they just aren't reacting at all. As for some specific characters, the English boy is a whinny fragile waste of space. When the French boy starts looking though the belongings of an estate the English guy tells him not to... Why again? Perhaps there is a hard of antibiotics or a weapon, they should be rummaging through everything they can and collecting things to survive. It's just a lazy bunch of people who shouldn't have survived in the first place.

Franchisebusters

I think this movie didn't understand the concept of the 84 GB movie. The 86 movie went sort of the same direction as this one. The first gave us a feel for the paranormal and yes, it was silly and yes it was ridiculous but the actors treated it as a "serious" movie. I think Paul Feig is really a funny guy, but his strength is more individualized and doesn't translate well to a movie format, in my opinion. TO me, the real problem, and what would have actually justified the film in almost every way... was the main characters. Had they simply made them the daughters of the originals, that would have given me the feels for these new characters. Instead they went with killing off the past and that didn't do anything but make me a sad panda.

Modern Star Trek has become way too full of itself. This show captures every single thing a real Trekker loves about Trek. I'm a newly branded Orvillian or whatever they are called.

Not a modern Jaws, but a ton of fun.
15 August 2018
Mix Deep Blue Sea, a bit of The Abyss and some Jaws references you might get close to a feel for this movie. It is actually filled with characters making relatively reasonable choices. I didn't have the urge to yell at the screen even once in reguards to the people being stupid. Definitely take a look at this movie, but enjoy it for what it is, just a movie.
