Baby Reindeer (2024)
Confusing mess
An potentially interesting story stretched out into an elongated confusing mess. Typical of Netflix. I'm not entirely sure who I'm supposed to empathise with in this story. I ended up disliking everyone..especially Donny. I gave up caring about the outcome, and after episode 3 just found myself watching episodes..4..5..6! Whilst scrolling on my phone. Did it go to episode six? God knows..it all just melted into this self pitying gumbo. The woman who played His stalker Martha is the highlight, she is a fantastic actor, and She carried this whole thing..if she wasn't so believable then this would have fallen apart.
300 Spartans: The Real Story (2015)
A new eye opening perspective on a classic
I appreciate that the budget for this documentary might have been on the lower end, but what has been produced here is an absolutely fascinating retelling of a moment in history that we all know and love.
This re telling really had me on the edge of my seat at times, and it felt like I was really there!!
I loved the attention to detail with the accuracy of the armour and weapons of the time, which you find Hollywood budgets sometimes get completely wrong, but this was so immersive.
The historians and professors bring so much knowledge and historical nuance, and open up avenues of thought on this battle that I had never even considered.
It's also great to see actors with real haircuts and beards, it's so immersion breaking in documentaries when obviously false beards and wigs are used.
Click Online (2000)
Click..20 years old!
No one actually tunes in to watch click..it just happens to be on..usually at 4am. It's one of those programs..if it was pulled..no one would actually notice.
The Rebels (2019)
When LARP'ing gets out of hand.
The one shot opening scene is ruined by the amount of people looking directly into camera. The immersion into Roman Wales is lost as soon as the lead characters start talking like 21st centuary public school rich millenials..surely as actors they could have at least managed a Welsh accent? Simple details even a low budget movie should at least get right get completely lost in this live action roleplay put on film. Worth a watch for laughs though at all the innacuracies and bizzare dialogue and plot. Oh..and the music!! It's so out of place in nearly every scene that it just left me bemused, and amused. From minimalist piano to 80's synth the soundtrack is bloody hilarious too.
Killing Joan (2018)
Gut wrenchingly awful
This is by far the worst film of the year so far, and it will take some beating! Shockingly bad dialogue..delivered by equally shocking acting, it had me in stiches scene after gut wrenchingly awful scene. A must see for bad film afficianados..I wont go as far a The Room comparison, but my goodness..its pretty close!
