300 (2006)
Simply Put....WOW
I have been waiting for this film for some time now, and i was so hyped up for this movie that when the trailers started rolling, i feared that i would be let down, but in actual fact...i wasn't at all.
Having watched Troy, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and bits of Alexander the battle scenes, yes they are impressive, but they are short and appeared to lack a certain edge to it, enter 300 due to this being shot in blue screen Zack Snyder had the freedom to create pretty much anything he wants, and he did, and it certainly paid off.
Also with the films mentioned above, there appeared to be such a long time between battles that i sometimes felt bored (less with the exception of Gladiator) but with Alexander, it was like 3 hours long and dragged like it was a 5 hour film, this film didn't, although when it veered away from the battles, i was so pumped up from them that i was on the edge of my seat wanting more of what was just on the screen.
i do hope though that they don't make too many movies like this, as it would take the effect away and just make it an average film, which i hope is what people don't want.
there is talk about this film being Butlers Big Break, i do hope it does to him what Layer Cake did for Daniele Craig..i was walking down the road hoping someone would confront me just so i could kick them in the chest and say THIS IS SPARTA!!!! I will be seeing this movie again, it is worth every penny of the admission fee, and i urge everyone to see it as soon as they can...this is a quality film
White Noise 2: The Light (2007)
A lot Better Than i Though going in
Well i have never seen the original film, never wanted to, but my girlfriend and her mate all suggested we go out on Friday for a nice meal and to see a film, well i have pretty much seen everything thats been released in england, and so she had suggested this, now i though to myself, i didn't want to see the 1st 1, what makes we want to see this, well apart from the leading actor (Nathen Fillion) I'm a bloke and not gay, just like the stuff he has been in. it first starts off in a diner where Abe (Fillion) witness's his wife and son murdered, and at first i though oh god this looks like a straight to video type movie, but i was way off, this film is very jumpy (particulary the scene with the baseball bat) but i wont say to much. Acting was spot on, with apart from Nathen...there arnt any other recognised actors in it. I left the theatre feeling pretty damm good that i had seen a film that had bettered my expectations, and i would say hype but well there wasn't any ( unlike Pans Labrynth but thats another story) All in all a very good film that will have your better half clinging onto your arm within 5 Min's of the opening credits.
Superman Returns (2006)
What Is Everyones Problem?
Again i ask the Question, i recently went to see this film with my brother dad and uncle, my uncle didn't rate it, neither did my brother, yet my dad and myself loved it, this is a truly great film with special effects to die for. My Brother said he preferred the original, and i can see where he is coming from, due to the special effects being so bad, but just 1 thing, if they were bad in this film, what would people be saying then? The Special Effects in this film were absolutely amazing, just everything about it seemed real. I Though Brandon Routh played his character exactly like Christopher Reeve portrayed Clark Kent, he was dopey, clumsy etc, and if he had made that character any different, people would have complained and moaned like the boring people they are. Spacey was excellent as Lex, i though he was better than Gene as he was a lot more darker, a thing me and my dad disagreed, he thought Gene Hackman was better. I liked Kate Bosworth's portrayal of Lois Lane, i though it was just as good as the way Margot Kidder played it back then. All i can say is Money well spent, i loved every minute of it, an am glad i went to see this gem of a film
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006)
Will Ferrel is a Comedy Genius
Having been a very lucky guy, and seeing a preview of this film, i can honestly say, this will be a hit, this has to be 1 of the funniest films i have ever seen, Sascha Baren Cohen is absolutely hilarious as the french rival. With all Will Ferrel Film, you expect the same type of humour, and this film is no different, although you expect the same, its still as funny as ever, and will never get old, people in the cinema, including me were standing up and cheering good ol Will as the film progressed, its that damm funny. There's no doubt in my mind that i will be seeing this again, lets hope the people out there go see it as well, its a film that deserves to be viewed.
Batoru rowaiaru II: Chinkonka (2003)
Had a lot to live up to
I saw this film today on DVD, and yes i have heard poor things about this film, but still wanted to watch it, and i have to say, Yes i was disappointed, but i still enjoyed it. Firstly if they had made another Battle Royale with the same storyline, people would have moaned about it, the 2nd film had to much to live up to the originality of the first film, so he was a good attempt at it. If this wasn't called Battle Royale 2, but nothing associated with it, how many people would then agree? It is a good film, but don't expect it to have anything on the first film, its good in its own right. I myself enjoyed it, it does deserve praise
Scary Movie 4 (2006)
This is sooooo gooooood
I couldn't stop laughing, when Shaq turned up at the beginning, i was just crying with laughter. This isn't as good as number 1, but better than both 2 and 3 in my opinion, my friend who i saw it with, wasn't laughing as much as i was, this is due to the fact, he didn't know the films that were being parodied...silly boy.
Anna Faris is top notch again, every 1 she is in she delivers, i just hope this doesn't make her a typecast, fingers crossed. Also Craig Bierko is spot on, if you don't know who he is, remember Cinderella Man, she was Max Braddocks last opponent, he was as funny as hell.
Take my advice, if you want to spend your hard earnt £/$ then see this, i was still laughing when i came out of the cinema.
My Name Is Earl (2005)
This show is just fantastic
Well when i first heard about this show, in all honesty, i wasn't thrilled, but when i found out Jason Lee was the leading man, i watched the pilot show straight away, and i wasn't wrong at all, this show is fantastic.
Every Episode Earl has to cross something off his list and every episode it gets even funnier, i never miss an episode and if i do, I'm watching it on E4 the Thursday after, so far I've watched every single episode and its just amazing.
The whole cast in my opinion is amazing, each actor/actress plays their part so well, my favourite character apart from Earl has to be crabman, its his one liners that crack me up, like when he comes over and says "Joy told me to give you these poison cookies" then when Earl replies "thanks Crabman" he goes " No Problem Earl" So funny.
This show is genius and i recommend that you watch it, just give it a go, and i promise you, you wont regret it, it doesn't sound like everyones cup of tea, but trust me, you will be drinking your tea while watching this.
Club Dread (2004)
Well, what a funny film
When i first wanted to see this film, it wasn't being shown in any cinema in Brighton, I was very disappointed, i had already seen Super Troopers and was awaiting more silly laughter from the genius that is Broken Lizzard and his gang.
Club Dread is a story about some inept resort workers being terrorized by a killer, they believe to be the local legend Machete Phil, thats all I'm going to say about that so far, ill let the people who haven't seen it, watch it, it deserves to be watched.
All i can say is that this is a very funny film, and if you loved Super Troopers and other Broken Lizard stuff than this is the film for you, i cant get enough of it.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
Wasn't that great
I grew up loving the Narnia film and the books, i adored them, and when i found out there was going to be a Big Budget film coming out, i was over the moon, but to be honest i was a little disappointed if i must say, Why i hear you say? well... When i saw the advert for this, the 30 second trailer was of what seemed to me, various battles, but in the film, there wasn't various battles, it was just 1 battle and not very long if i do say so myself. The build up to the 'Big Battle' was sooooo long as well i mean, took like 2 hours for the battle to commence and by then i was frustrated and bored, so wasn't actually up for this battle, but when i did come i sat and and said to my mate ' Here we go some action' but that never came. My Friend had actually never read the books before or watched the cartoon, but he was telling me everything that happens next, i know its a kids film and its supposed to follow the book but come on have a few surprises please can you. I know a lot of people are saying how great this film was, but people it really wasn't anything special, the advert built your hopes up once again with all the action in the Ad, but left out the 2 hours of boring stuff. 5/10 I'm giving this, a little generous i might add.
Green Street (2005)
A lot better than i first thought
Well first off, i went into the cinema expecting to come out refreshed as i assumed i would fall asleep. But i was wrong and let me tell you why. The film starts off in an excellent way, a fight between 2 rival gangs, and this sets the mood for the whole entire play. Woods acting was amazing, i mean i wasn't expecting much, but he amazed me, his representation of his troubled character shows that he isn't a typecast of Frodo. However Hunnman(sp) was also good, but his cockny accent was poor, at time it was cringeworthy. In my opinion this was better that Football Factory, the violence was better and more realistic, the tension created was better, but maybe it was because it had Wood in it and we've grown to love him as Frodo, nevertheless it was more realistic as well. For a first time director this film is a great stepping stone and I'm sure we will be seeing more of this female director for years and years to come
Memento (2000)
Amazing
There's a reason why this film is in the top 25 best ever films on IMDb
Leonard(Pearce)has short term memory loss and cant remember what happened after the murder of his wife, but can remember things that happened before the murder took place, like what his job was, and his clients. The film starts off with the last memory of Leonards, and we work our way back to the beginning which Nolan does fantastically.
The Cast is exceptional Pearce plays his role fantastically, Moss plays her character amazingly as well, her character changes roles so quickly and she executes it perfectly and even though Pantoliano wasn't the 1st choice for his role, i couldn't see it going to anyone else.
Look i could sit here type for ages to convince you to go and see this, the truth is, this is 1 of my favourite films of all time, just thinking back at all the twists and turns this movie takes makes me want to see this again, please watch this, rent it, buy it, i don't care how just watch this masterpiece
The Incredibles (2004)
OK but come on
Now i thought this film was good, but come on people, the film was way too long, 115 mins for an animation film, i was on the verge of falling asleep sometimes, saying that it WAS a funny film, very enjoyable kids film, but think about this for a second, Does this film deserve a play in the top 100 greatest films ever made, higher than films like Reservoir Dogs, The Shining, Clockwork Orange. I certainly didn't think so, and after thinking a lot, honestly i didn't come out as satisfied as animated films like Shrek 1 and 2. I put 6 because its a good animation film, but its more targeted to adults which is nice as kids would obviously want to see it, dragging adults to it as well. But i am angered that this film is higher than some greats including the films mentioned as well as Raging Bull oh come on you sad people, its not that good.
Saw II (2005)
Good but not as good as the 1st
Well I'm not going to be 1 of these people who say' i went in expecting the worst and came out amazed' crap, i was expecting the film to be rubbish, due to Hollywood dazzling it up, and it was pretty boring until half way, when all the clues started to unravel itself, but the film moved 2 fast, the timer in the house went down too quickly in film time.
The ending was clever, but not as good as the first for a few reasons, A. in the first 1, there was 1 great twist which just shocked you so much it was really scary. B. The film made you think, the second film is a lot more gore, and trust me, try eating popcorn through the bit when the woman puts her hands into the see through glass, tis impossible.
I gave this 8 because it was a good film, the only weak point, is the many twists in such a short time, unlike the first 1, you can take in what just happened, it all hits you so fast, but please anyone who wishes to 'boycot' this movie, don't, it is a good film
Gladiator (2000)
Cant get Better
Right from the start this film has you on the edge of your seats, with the battle of Germanai, and Maximus(Crowe) Longing to go home, I've seen this movie 5 times in the past month, and it just gets better and better, with the excellent Late Oliver Reed to the outstanding Russel Crowe, this film has to be watched several times just so you can appreciate its outstanding achievement.
In my opinion this has to be Ridley Scott's best ever film, along with the beautiful soundtrack this makes for an entertaining viewing , all i have to say is, if you haven't watched this film yet, then what the hell are you waiting for watch it now
