In het niets (2013)
Well played.
13 December 2013
Just saw this movie and I liked it. It's one of the first movies about the unknown casualties of „De Bijlmerramp" in 1992.

The stories follows a little girl full of life, who enters a flat filled with illegal immigrants and a cook who's disappointed in life who never comes outside. Despite the conditions the girl has a dream to become a famous singer, just like Madonna. The man, first reluctant, gets a bond with the girl and get a spark in his life himself.

Well played by actors I never heard off: Isaka Sawadogo and Lulu Veen. Also the supporting actors are convincing.

It reminds me a bit of Leon, but it's less Hollywoodesc and more Dutch, although you don't hear any Dutch except for the news segments.

Is there a movie on the cutting room floor?
1 June 2010
I saw this movie with the knowledge, that this was the worst movie ever. That shouldn't be a problem. A bad movie can be a movie that's so bad, it is good again. Or so bad, that it is just plain funny. This film was just painfully bad. The story doesn't make any sense. You have absolutely no idea who the people are and what they are doing. After a good start with destroyed zombies every where, there is no action at all. And when there's action it happens outside the camera. They're talking, and talking and talking and you have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. I had the idea that they made a movie and after that they left the movie on the cutting room floor and put all the outtakes together. The movie looks bad, like they made every mistake in film-making on purpose. All above should-en't be a problem if the movie is at least fun to watch, because of all this mistakes, but it isn't. It's all heavy set drama. Every character has problems, are depressed and they're talking about it. Even the zombies are depressed and talking about there problems! The filmmakers took themselves way too serious. Like they really wanted to tell something and give a message to the world. Is there nothing good to tell about this movie? Some of the actors really can act. Especially the older actor. The old zombie and the oldest priest have a voice that is very pleasant to hear. They could use them for voice acting. But it doesn't feel right in this movie. Good acting was way misplaced in a bad movie. I felt sorry for the actors who maybe hoped to show their acting skills in a movie, but ended in one big boring nonsense I hope they had fun making this movie, because if you make a no budget movie, it should be fun to make with no expectations, that it's going to be a good movie. Than it is fun to watch.

Try to avoid a headache.
11 March 2010
After I watched the movie, I had a terrible headache. Later I found out it was because I focused on the blur parts of the screen. When I see a 3d movie, I want to see everything in 3d so I watch every part of the screen. But that's not allowed, because you're only allowed to see just the sharp part of the scene. And in Avatar that's just a small part of the screen. So there you have a planet what should be mind blowing, but it's only head blowing. I still don't know how Pandora looks like. After 1,5 hour I got used to the 3d a bit so I could see the last 1,5 hour better, but then the overviews of the planet where already done. What was left was a very one dimensional story. But I already expected that.

Conclusion: Before you're going to see a 3d-movie first learn how to watch a 3d movie. Otherwise it's going to be a painful evening.

predictable scares.
20 June 2007
Maybe I watched too many horror movies, but I had a lot of times that I could say: "The big scare comes.........NOW! Alright the scares where pretty heavy ones and it still gave me automatically goosebumps, but because you know it's coming it misses it effect a bit.

That's not the fault of WN2 that it has been done before a lot, but what would make a really great horror movie that it will scare you even if you know a horror movie works, by having new scares that you really didn't expect or just being scary in another way.

Furthermore there was a bit of overuse of scary effects and some of them just wheren't logic. Why for example was that red coat girl there? She had nothing to do with the rest of the story.

I saw this movie in the Sneak preview and in a strange coincidence I saw White Noise in the Sneak preview too. That movie I had no idea what kind of movie it was and I hadn't seen that much of new horror movies yet. When there was the first scare I really didn't expect that! That was a great scare then.

But nevertheless if you don't have much expectations or you don't watch horror movies a lot, it is a descent view for the first person and the second person will jump out of his seat several times!
