Gilded Newport Mysteries: Murder at the Breakers (2024)
Weak.
I generously gave this a 5 mostly because the story is fairly good. The acting is not. There's some bright spots in the acting but otherwise it's much like watching a middle school play.
There's problems in the casting which I'm sure relate to Hollywood's need to be diverse. In this period, there's a lot of unlikely relationships and job positions in this show. The gilded age is a period where eugenics is highly popular due to much prejudice and not just to people of color. (I'd suggest "Under a Gilded Moon" for a fiction read more realistic for the period.)
The dialog is weak and for people in this gilded class, not as familiar with each other as in here. Combine that with lapses into 20th/21st century language and it's uneven.
Fix these things & it might end up a franchise for a few seasons.
Grey's Anatomy: Thunderstruck (2022)
Preaching
Giving the show another chance to stop politicizing & entertain.... Stance on abortion that it's a "crisis" makes it sound like all women abort all babies & run in once their pregnant. That might be true in Hollyweird but in the rest of the world women have babies & put them up for adoption or keep them. Abortion isn't an automatic first choice. And outside of the US it's more regulated than here - except China & North Korea which is probably the world the writers & producers prefer. And ectopic? That's a SURGERY not an abortion. But then reality isn't important. Stick to the love lives & personal relationships instead.
A League of Their Own (2022)
Disappointing
I was looking forward to this as an update or refresh but it's none of that. It's a revisionist fantasy. I'm giving it 3 stars only because the first episode was entertaining. The end of it though shows enough direction of where it's going - nothing about what the women who lived thru this were. It continues the stereotype that women who play sports must be lesbians - something any woman, these probably more so, fought and continue to fight. It's become "fashionable" to be anything but straight now & the writers have twisted this history to that. Add to it the volume of swearing that is unlikely in this era and it goes downhill from there. Hollywood lives in its own delusion here.
Grey's Anatomy (2005)
Hollywood politics run the show...
So busy pushing woke politics & policies it has lost its way from its origins. There's no interns any more, just residents.
If you want to be lectured, it's still ok. Time to day good bye already.
