Very good strory telling
9 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The movie tells the sorty in a ellegant and correct way. While telling a gay seriel killer and his atrocities, it shed light on the society, family. Also the series, do not show explicit violence and sexual scenes. So the series, is genuinly casted.

The movie is tells not only a thriller, serial killer story it tells the society where white supremacy prevails. The series becomes a satirical-dramatical from the middle onward.

They could have told the story of Tommy more broadly, we didn understand why he has changed his mind, the flow of time has intterrupted. Dahmer saw the family and friends searching for him, and then we see the return of Tommy for his forgotten keys and then he is murdered.

Private Life (2018)

Very realistic and well written and directed story.
26 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Very realistic. Not big surprises or big schocks. Not different scenarios. Everything is similar to what we have in the real life.

The director/author knows that most of the times these stories end up with no result. So he conveyyed this idea very successfully. Those people will watch these movies and find themselves. They will not feel jealous because the couple in the movie had succeeded, their trials had resulted in success. Even with a young donor, problems can arrive.

The last scene, where they wait something. That is the essence of the life. Waiting something, our hope.

too much sentiments
15 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
When I came across this movie, I asked myself how this movie gone unnoticed to me.

The movie is just an adaptation of a book about a true story in the medical area. so the topic is very rigid for an author or a director to move around. You cant exaggerate or dramatize the events.

the medical research hence the main hero should not be at the heart of the movie, that would be a documentary.

Why do they have to choose well known actors like Robin Williams and Robert De Niro, as we well know they are not doctor and disabled person. Another actor could well play the role of Leonard, showing us the full heart of a human being despite having such illness.

homage to the indians and those laborers of that civilization
29 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I would say this movie is a dedication and a homage to the Indians and those labourer who built that civilization to many costs. Indians who lost their territory, culture and life is the hero of the movie.

Who knows the name of the Indians. Has he ever wanted earthly things from the whites. He participated to the auction, against the bounty award that was fully legitimate. so he somehow rebought his territory, without staying exploiting it. his one dollar that paid for his drink, because he wanted to make him buy a drink for himself and have a good moment at least.

our gorgeous woman, should she symbolize the life or the civilization. That one which all want to loath it.

Who is chaian, I would say he is the labourer. at least he made a touch on her hip, not claiming too much from it.

She wanted the Indian someday pass by, the Indian told some day.

a movie telling dynamic life of the modern man.
13 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I like it and it is gripping.

It genuinely traverse the hard contrasts in a modern rich and developed society. This movie is not about the emptiness that a modern rich man feels amid material abundance. On the contrary it shows the dynamicly fully flowing life that needs to be further fine-tuned using many contrasts.

poor quarter is not depicted that much since the aim of the movie is not to show miseries but to show high scale life struggling for their own delicacy. a photo of misery would be used to show the satirical contrast, a beggar put as a watcher over luxury sales bags, our hero searching a note in the rubbish area.

a sex scene is not used solely to show a passion or on the contrary to show impotence. it is used as something from the life, with its all relevant oddities, fear of being assessed as impotent or fear of leaving clues for blackmail.

Somehow I was not able to place the scene of odd voiced gorilla shaped man in the movie. Maybe it is just about the timing of scene in the movie. you expect something that would be related to the scandal that had just started. I guess it was just one of the contrasts.

A good comedy to have some fun.
1 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The lead actor says he had chosen his university since it has the best kurdish study (around 70th min.). Thanks for giving homage to the sufferings the kurds have undergone, ezidi slavery by ISIS, and other events.

allegorically, what this movie tells us: there is no such thing as great love, happiness and success.

in the movie it implies that journalism is near to the second oldest profession. this is a story from 2017. But in 2019, journalists are in retreat, we need even a bit of it.

a good movie describing hard times like being laid off.
26 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
A good movie which describe well this kind of situations, loosing job and the changement in the private life.

Having been in those shoes in more harder conditions, I started a bit in a more awkward sens. in my case, people were purged as a result of political situation, and people were immediately criminalized, deprived all the rights including the mere civil rights. Friends and relatives were preferring not to come in contact in fear of the repercussions.

Here in the movie we see a company deciding to lay down people for commercial reasons, however the company proposes some compensation schemes.

Well to stay in the frame of the movie, the company and its mistakes are not so much stressed. That means the movie tries to imply that this is not a personnel matter rather a fact of life cycle. Also, the fact that movie ends with a tone that implies that everything is starting from the beginning shows the very fact that this is the situation, and things start, grow up and die.

I am glad that a movie can honestly describe a little bit the life of those whose life was turned over.

Code Unknown (2000)

A great film that tries to narrate its time to the future
21 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Dumb and deaf kids trying to communicate, a run away boy who demand from a relatively older women some shelter, grabbing some croissants and biting them on the street all are very warm humanistic shots that attach the viewer to the film.

This is a movie about human scenes from this epoque, handicapped kids, migrating people with all their adventures and difficulties, war and its correspondant, racial discrimination and love, and fascinating and beautiful chorus of different people beating their drums which could include deaf and dumb kids as well.

war photographer who tells that in war places life is at first difficult but later more easy, while in the normal life it is at first good but later complicated is indeed in big difficulty when he do not remember the code and could not reach her wife by telephone, simply because she might be in the shower.

Very good movie to make bonds with our current globalized society.

the burden of man
7 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
It is an analysis of human tragedy. The movie do not make any judgement towards any idea, in another word, the movie do not teaches us lessons. But, it certainly show that the orphans are not only in the third world. The movie make a clear inclination that, when your own blood is concerned, that could weigh more.

A man, so rich, would eventually cede his wealth to a potential rival?

Good mans like Jacop would eventually got their reward?

It is very common that some men cheat their wife and this create many problems that eventually another man takes the responsibility?

Since it tries to work out a different sentiment, I would rate it fairly good.

the past, the present and the future of the Kurds
30 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
As stated in french ' notre passé est triste, notre present est tragique, mais heureusement on n'a pas d'avenir" (our history is sad, our present is tragic, fortunately we dont have any future). This movie is a bit about the history of the Kurds in Iraq.

Besides the obvious anti war tone of the movie, I gues this movie tries to highlights some facts about the Kurdish history.

A Kurdish movie made in 2005 with the artists from Kurds from Iraq and Turkey.

in addition ot the anti-war tone of the movie, I can underline some messages:

-The the despair of the Olds who put the Kurdish generations in the illiterate and oblivion. -The very frequent and well known fact that since a Kurd run a way from his own militia would be forced to serve in the bang of disgusting torturer and his life would be a mess. -A kurd will usually be despised and deceived by the others. -A kurd will not be both pious and racist towards other languages ( The Kurd will feel anger and despair watching the Kurdish soils around him, while the arabian racist driver praying). -Western had forgotten the Kurds but nevertheless it is only them where Kurds today could find the refuge.

is the declared liberty at the end of the movie real? We have to wait the future to tell us.

a bad holywood imitation
29 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
A cliche happy ending holywood movie about love and relationships.

what would be the message of the movie:

established societal institutions are against the happiness and must be destroyed?

unhappy mariages exist and even kids are bad byproducts of these processes?

Bury your love in the cement of a building to impress the audiences about the frozen love?

A child toy box should be carried through all the life to be happy?

A happy ending is the one that you get older together?

A true love affair is like a vey old and big oak tree?

if you think that all of these are familiar from the holywood cliches, than lets call the cat the cat and name this movie a bad holywood imitation.

To me this is a movie from the era when the french movie was shocked was in the transition at the beginning of the milennium.

nothing new from the west front
17 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
An french movie to explore the new dynamics of swinging in the modern times, where kids limits physical and mental freedoms.

Even though the movie try to depict a smooth experience of this adventure, it still contains many elements from the reality, like men being jealous about their "wives" and women being jealous about loosing their husband and staying alone.

The director is successful to show a rather plain picture how would it look like.

A movie to tell the normal things
17 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
When I picked up this move by Mehdi Ben Attia, I middle eastern origin name, stereotypingly I infer that it could be about a young future promising boy. Bingo. I am not surprised.

I guess this movie want to tell something about the love, foreigners, integration etc.

The movie will magnify some aspect to show the contrast. So every middle eastern who broke the car and took the keys and open the door is not indeed a bad guy, he can turn to be a good man. Secondly an middle eastern can even study well the political sciences, enjoy theater, even reincarnate into a 100% french man. Coming to the acting, light, the music in the movie everything is in the order and good shape.

Sour Apples (2016)

A good picturesque movie from Turkey to tell the recent history of the nation
28 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is to tell a story of a few people along the recent history of Turkey. The main story is that of Turkey. I will try to match the film to the recent national history. As the near history of Turkey is marked with upheaval created by the separatist kurds and the migration to big cities and the migration from the east regions.

This is a film written, directed and played by Yilmaz Erdogan, himself from Hakkari, the utmost southeastern point of Turkey populated with the Kurds, second big ethnic group after the Turks . The movie is more or less about his hometown and the near history of Turkey.

Erdogan, starts with untouched village which even do not know shampoo, and depict picturesque views of the region which resemble Switzerland or Austria to some extend. This is to somehow imply that this region could be another "Switzerland", because of its mountains and so on. Hence, the protagonist dreams to make a cable car (telepherique) to easily climb to the mountains, like the ones in Europe.

Antalya, is a Mediterranean city populated with Turks. It used to be famous for its Agriculture and sea as well. Basically these two cities, Hakari and Antalya share many commons. As in the movie, the Urbanised young and agri-engineer from turkic Antalya fall in love with daughters and propose marriages, the father considers inappropriate and refuses because of cultural reasons, mentioning that it is clear as you did not understand at the first instant. This is to symbolize the two different ethnicities who live in Turkey. The mayor is very stubborn, as the kurds are known for, even not to tolerate a single indigene sour apple in the garden. Indeed, this sour apple will later blossom in the gardens of Antalya which further symbolizes that indeed (kurdish) daughters could blossom in the other culture (among turks).

Turning back to the movie, the big love story symbolize that the two parts, the kurds and turks, have much to offer each other and make the picture complete.

But, the history will not continue as such and the societies will not be able to take the necessary actions, and the young lovers would not be able to step out and pursue their fate. At the moment when the new elections are taking place and the radio tells about the news of first instances of the violent clashes, the family leave for Antalya without clear reasons . Indeed, in the recent history of Turkey, the pkk rebelling and the migration took place at the same period (70-90s), and without too much correlation (for example the black sea region too migrated to Istanbul, which is not directly related to pkk upraising).

The picturesque nature will disappear and the migration will take out the mind and souls of people and put them in real dementia. The director Erdogan focuses on his town and people, which could also imply that he totally projects on the Kurds with their mistakes and shortcomings as far the near history is considered.

The young boy Ozgur, because of leftist demonstrations in the University campus is deprived of his diploma and therefore destined to work as a farm worker in the gardens of Antalya. His lover will tell him, "of course you can grab an apple with the said permission". Which could symbolize that most of these people now work in the seasonal farms of Antalya. It could also imply that the Kurds could talk about their problems and cultural issues though a talk process.

I guess the director Erdogan wanted to finish this general bitter story with a serendipity type sweet ending just to leave a taste of hope on our tongue, which makes indeed.

The Commune (2016)
8/10
An interesting topic
4 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this move without understanding all the conversations. But I guess the idea is transferred through the emotions.

First of all, it is a good trial to analyze the concept of the "Community". I graduated from a boarding school, sometimes I miss the atmosphere of it, and I dream an utopic commune life, where people share and make life easier.

The Director touches on ore intense and sad moments than happier moments. In this regard it is not an fantasy but more close to the reality.

Often we encounter hard moments due to the new love affair of Eric, but nobody step back from the set up, in another word the Commune continues and people stay in it.

In a family we can have sad and happy moments like sickness of the kids, even their loss, kids growing and having companions so in a Commune life. Maybe in a commune we can overcome more easily.

The movie focuses of the emotions of a Woman, Anna, who loose her husband to a more younger woman., Emma. Anna accept Emma and approve her stay in the Commune, with some hard emotions later. Anna enters into deep depression, loses her job and finally loose the race and leave the house. It seems that it is Anna who loses this game.

The movie concentrates on the emotions of Anna, and do not much delve into others lives apart from that of Eric, Anna and Emma. The movie could tell more about the benefits or the functioning of a Commune life.

As a good trial to explore a hard topic, it deserves a watch.

The Shelter (2014)
7/10
A good movie to witness our times
6 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The topic of the movie is very clear I guess. A public institution is trying to help people having no place to live, while the demand surpass the supply. I tell a contemporary issue without too much exaggeration or drama.

The beauty of this film is the way making you smile even though it covers a sad topic. The employees are able to communicate among themselves and laugh sometimes, hence making the viewers smile as well. Kids are enjoying without crying or making fuss. Even the organizers arranges a feast in which people make their folkloric dance, which like all dance scenes makes it unforgettable.

Additionally, the movie is casted almost like the real. For sure, I guess the poors demanding the helps seems real, not actors.

It create a warm feeling while facing this horrible migration crisis and its source reasons.

In the movie, it shows the life of these people outside the shelter. In this regard, the movie is not about the shelter, the life of these people in general.

This movie would be a witness to tell the future generations how these times were, the difficult lives and how the host countries tried to create some beauties in these lives.

Hail Mary (1985)
An art movie of Godard
4 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
A Godard's movie hard to understand.

A young girl is saying that she is pregnant without touching any man, like the Virgin Mary. However, nobody, including the the doctor do not believe.

Lonelines, dissatisfaction, love is discussed very delicately.

There is strong parallelism between the nature itself and the birth of a new person.

in the movie everything is going aimlessly, only the basketball game is played meaningfully and seriously. Girls are playing basketball because it tries to create a contrast and draw our attention.

The nature, the sun, the Luna are pictured gorgeously. In this great world human is just a boring and senseless creature.

the music is interesting. very sudden appeareances of the sound tracks, just to underline the flow of the movie,

very artistic movie of Godard
27 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Another film of Godard about film making, specifically should a film has a story or not. Godard uses a lot of elements from the class conflicts jargon. This is referred in the movie as well by the dialogue " any film has been cast in a factory?"

Running a factory has difficulties and problems as making a film in set. However all of these lives are intrigued. The main actress the lower of the factory owner, is waiting material gains but is being deceived like every worker in the factory.

The factory owner is always coughing, which shows the general ill manner of the business environment.

Movie director decides to forget his ex-wife, and she eventually understand the lies of the owner.

Movie director refuses to sell his movie to the Americans, the capitalists, the rebellious girl in the factory do not subdue to be fired.

the playing girl, the lamb in the movie set, the child are all the elements that indicate the innocence

The Teacher (2016)
6/10
A movie to judge the recent past of Slovakia
26 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Watching a movie about the socialist period made in 2016 make me suspect about the message of the movie.

while viewing the movie, I made some parallelisms between this movie an "the 12 angry men", a Hollywood movie regarding 12 members of a jury to decide whether a boy, supposedly having committed an obvious crime is really guilty or not. Likewise here we have the union of the parents to quarreling among themselves to decide whether to sign a common petition about the recently arrived comrade teacher.

The teacher, making constant references to the Soviet Union implies socialism which was governing the Slovaks before 1992. The children being the future generations are at the center. The gentle boy, Carol, whose mother left for abroad is the future Slovakia. The Red cross comes and takes him to help him establish a brilliant future. The Red cross being the Chistianity forming a major part in the making of the Slovak identity.

The teacher has a secret relation with the father and tries to convince him for the divorce. The father, unexpectedly decide to go against the teacher.

The movie intentionally leaves many point unanswerable. Wheather the teacher is guilty or not, whether really the Mother had cased a divorce or not.

Dramatic Story
17 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
As the movie itself, Alevis and Kurds successfully collaborated with Swiss while being deceived and tortured by their own patriots.

It is a fact that many Kurds or Alevis had sought refugees in Switzerland. We keep seeing that the people of the same country, lie and deceive while the foreigners are helpful and kind.

The religious man signifies the Sunnis, he is not humane, he make his friend carry his suitcase of religious books and do not tell about his friend so that the child would not be frozen. The throw of the suitcase signifies the bow to the religion, which unfavor the Alevis

The child is a the real hope, so this hope is finished.

Haydar's last wish is to become friend with the truck driver, which highlights Haydar, rather Alevs needing some kind people to sympathize.

this is a movie that will describe this epoch to the latter generations. how state is intervened to the life, the automatic call replies that make you crazy, all the staff like this.

the hard lives can exist even in the very developed nations like UK.

On the other hand there are some clichés that seems a bit cheap for this movie. I guess Internet, CDs are in everybody's life.,

marriages can tell a lot
6 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this film today at the Geneva 12th oriental movies week .

The movie, weeding dance truly reflects the narrations when it comes to the marriages and and man- woman relations. It is neither an exaggerations nor a negligence.

All the players are performing well. They reflect the sentiments very well.

Some Genevoises asked is it because they are from the lower level of society? I replied them no, from every level of society you can find similar stories with a different twist.

A watcher asked to the Director, Cigdem Sezgin, why the stories get mixed and taboos become attacked but eventually the social norms were restored? The Director answered because she wanted to put everybody back in his place.

the movie is telling a life history. It reflects a lot of scenes of life in Turkey from 2013s.
