Easily one of my favorite Movie Trilogies of all time.
28 October 2022
So glad I won this trilogy on Blu-ray My God this movie was Beautiful!!! The animation of this movie was Top Notch, Ufotable definitely brought their A-Game with this film, & went even further than they did with the previous movie. The music was gorgeous to listen to, the Fight Scenes, & OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't give this movie anything less than a 10 out of 10, easily one of Ufotable's Best!!! I am happy to say that the Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel anime trilogy is literally the Anime equivalent to the Heisei Gamera Trilogy, Sakura is Best Girl for Shirou, & Rider is a Goddess.

Bring on Lost Butterfly.
24 December 2017
I saw this movie twice, during its release in the US, & I'm glad I did. The movie had beautiful Animation, the characters are just as memorable here if not better than the previous Fate series, it had great comedic moments, awesome action, & certainly some Dark & creepy moments. Yes, Fate/Zero was dark, this movie is just as dark if not Darker, for a movie that mostly relied on build up, it got brutal. I like changes that were added to the movie, it actually works & certainly gives us a better understanding of the characters. The only negative I can give to this movie, is that I would not recommend it any new comers of Fate, you have to watch Fate/Zero & UBW first, before you see this movie.

Shin Godzilla (2016)
10/10
A Godzilla film that rivals Gojira(1954)
17 December 2016
Ever since Godzilla 2000 came to theaters, I've waited a really long time to see a new Toho Godzilla film in theaters. Despite there being too much Godzilla Tease, and having pretty bland human characters, I still enjoyed Godzilla(2014), & I think it paid great respect to the King of Kaiju.

When I heard that Toho was bringing Godzilla back, I was excited, but also nervous. I was nervous about Shin Gojira because Evangelion creator Hideki Anno, would be the main director & the screen writer for the film. Now, I have a love/hate relationship with Evangelion, there were some things I liked about it, & there are some things that I did not like about it. I then remembered that Anno also worked with Hayao Miyazaki on Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, so my spirit was lifted. I was also excited to hear that Shinji Higuchi, the Special effects director for Godzilla(1984), GMK, & the Gamera trilogy would be the secondary Director as well as the Special effects director for Shin Gojira.

After seeing Shin Gojira, I can honestly say it's now my 2nd favorite Godzilla film after Gojira(1954). This film is Godzilla's answer to John Carpenter's The Thing, its literally a modern day remake of Gojira. While Gojira reflected on the bombings of Hiroshima & Nagasaki, along with the H-Bomb Test that took place across the Pacific in the 1950s, Shin Gojira reflects on how hesitant the Japanese Government was during the 3/11 tsunami/earthquake incident and Fukushima nuclear disaster, & it greatly succeeds at that. It is so eerie how the images in Shin Gojira are similar to the 3/11 incident that happened 5 years ago in Japan, very much like how the images in Gojira resemble the destruction of Hiroshima & Nagasaki.

While the film contains a bunch of political meetings, & a bunch of human characters, my answer to everyone's complaint is, "Well, what did you think the First Godzilla movie was?". Even when Godzilla wasn't around, I said to myself, "Not much is happening, yet I'm so invested in whats going on". Yes, I was actually more invested in the human characters from Shin Gojira, than I ever was with the characters in G2014. Rando Yaguchi, & Kayoko Ann Patterson were the best characters, I like how they work together gathering information on Godzilla, & also try to get both the Japanese & US government to work together despite both parties being bullheaded. Its also interesting how they speak in both Japanese & English, even with a very thick Japanese accent I could still tell what they're saying. The scientist characters are also interesting, they are very much like Anime characters, the guy with the pink towel, the girl staring at her computer, the guy that freaks out, they're all fun to watch & even laughable at times.

Now for Godzilla himself, Oh My God he is just terrifying, almost like a Demonic version the 1954 Godzilla. This version of Godzilla is the Destroyer of Worlds that Robert Oppenheimer described in the leaked Comic Con trailer for G2014. Now I know there are some folks that aren't too fond of Godzilla's new origin, or the fact that he has different forms, & new abilities that we've never seen before, but honestly I'm glad Toho took the risks for this movie, & decided to go all out on Godzilla, but still staying true to the character. In fact, I love this version of Godzilla all the more because of his new origin, & because of his different forms, & new abilities. When I think of Godzilla & how he was originally represented in 1954 film, I see him as an unnatural creature that should not exist, & is the mistake of mankind, & Shin Gojira really nails that idea.

The special effects in this film are beautiful, when the trailers for this movie aired online, I immediately thought Godzilla was still a traditional guy in a suit, & it wasn't until a behind the scenes video was posted, that revealed that Godzilla was completely CGI. When I found out Godzilla was all CGI, I was blown away, I said to myself, "Well if the trailers can fool me into thinking Godzilla's a guy in suit, that's definitely a huge plus."

The music and sound effects are also amazing, the new music by Shirō Sagisu is just beautiful, I cannot stop listening to it, my favorite track being "Persecution of the Masses", its just adds to the dread & fear that humanity has on Godzilla throughout the film. What's also great about the music in Shin Godzilla, is that they actually play music straight from the Showa & Heisei Godzilla films along other classic Toho films. Akira Ifukube is sadly no longer with us, but it was so awesome to hear his classic music come back from beyond the grave. As for sound effects, just like the music, they use sound effect straight from the Showa Godzilla films. They sound effects for Godzilla's roar, footsteps, atomic breath, buildings crumbling, military firing their weapons, all sound effects from the Showa films.

Now I will admit, the movie does drag quite a bit during the second half with the scientist & the military trying to figure how to stop Godzilla before things get any worse, & it doesn't really pick up until the Big Finale. Aside from that, I have no complaints about this movie.

I want it known, I have seen this movie 5 TIMES IN THEATERS!!!!!!!! Yes, that is how much of a blast I had with it. Shin Gojira is easily one the best Godzilla films I have seen in a long time, one of the best movies I have seen this year, & is now my 2nd favorite Godzilla film to date.
