Love N Quarantine (2022)
When things go bad...
This film is a story about an interracial couple, Ben and Caroline, who hit a rough patch excerbated by the Covid pandemic and resulting lockdown. While based during the pandemic, it strives to show the issues a couple like this might face, from family hesitations, to career choices, and the reluctance and subtle racism African-Americans face in the best of times. The acting was decent, the story thought provoking and a great premise given the past 2-3 years. I would have enjoyed a more emotional performance in the final conclusion, but all in all, an enjoyable film.
Dirty Beautiful (2015)
Oddly Endearing Film
"Dirty Beautiful" is an oddly endearing film about how we find people in our lives who may not ultimately fit our world, but for a period of time impact our trajectory through life. David and Kat are completely different people who somehow end up together during formulative parts of each others existence. It is quirky, fun, well acted, slightly profane, but based on realism. I think we have all ran across a Kat in our lives who is a free spirited, slightly unfocused and manipulative sort who becomes an important fork in the road-type relationship that hopefully makes us grow comfortable in our own skin. I enjoyed this film!
AVA: A Twist in the Road (2021)
Dealing with tragedy and moving forward
Ava-A Twist in the Road is a film that details the aftermath of a late in life tragedy that undoes all the plans made. Facing loss, the main character works through a maze of situations, people, emotions, and grief, and shows how she navigates the competing agendas and needs of those she comes in contact with. It also deals with her own issues that need resolution to move forward. Ultimately, this is a wonderful film that makes one think what choices would I make if faced with the same situation. Nice acting and a well produced movie for those in a contemplative mood.
