Warum läuft Herr R. Amok (1970)
One of the best Fassbinder movies
This is a terrific movie. I have seen the unsettling ending of it years ago. Today I was watching it from DVD. My recollection of the ending was so strong that I remembered all small details.
Highly sensitively Fassbinder gives insight into the life of a man that runs amok. Fassbinder succeeds in showing the motives of a crazy amok run.
If you don't know any of Fassbinders movies you must be aware that this is different than anything you know. Fassbinder portrays a man that lacks self-awareness and is poor of showing his emotions and who does not do more than he is asked for in his job. Herr R. is slow in mind and words. And yet, all that does not accumulate to his amok run. What does is hidden behind a surface that Fassbinder discloses one by one... 9 out of 10.
Bewitched (2005)
Below Average
You can go to see this film even if you are not familiar with the former sitcom Bewitched. I don't know anything about the old show, and you really don't have to. You can enjoy the movie because there are quite some funny moments in it. I even laughed sometimes by myself in the theater, alone. Being a man watching this film in a theater filled with women I found myself laughing at different moments than they did.
Personally, I think there was too much emphasis on the music score. Like if they had to drag the audience with the story not to loose interest. And maybe Will Ferrell thought overacting a little bit is suited because many sitcom actors overact a little, but it just threw me out of the story every time I saw him. And he is in many scenes... Apart from that the movie is OK. The story could have been improved but the dialog is very good making sometimes even minor characters act very plausible in a film where witchcraft is as normal as electricity.
