Tales of Symphonia: The Animation (2007)
A little bad writing ruined a fun show
While under the belief that the world will be soon destroyed unless their friend "the chosen one" is willing sacrificed, they go against her wishes to save her and doom the world. Even better is their interruption of the ritual leaves the friend in a vegetative state. His choices are disgusting and monstrous but the show acts like he's a hero and moves the plot along quickly in hopes you don't realize how his actions could have led to the painful death of every baby, child, woman, and man alive.
The MC is whiny and selfish, but because he's the MC they conveniently, after the fact, realize the sacrifice wasn't going to actually save the world. More conveniently, they also find a way to reverse the friend from being in a vegetative state for the rest of their life.
The show's intention was for the MC to be nothing but a caring hero which makes the above problems a result of bad writing but it caused me to lose all respect for the show on episode 4.

Not Good Enough
The premise and MC are fine but I couldn't force myself to keep watching based on how annoying the little spirit is. Her voice and demeanor are so whiny it simply ruined the good parts for me.
If that character doesn't bug you, then I recommend giving it a chance.
Honzuki no Gekokujou (2019)
Confusing Main Character
The main character is an adult in a child's body and they emphasize how mature and smart she is in the beginning, but later on to create drama, she's super naïve and immature about most things.
The novelty of the premise fades and is replaced with drama created by an annoying 8 year old.
