Digimon: The Movie (2000)
Great movie... for die-hard fans anyways!
DIGIMON!! :D! YAAY!!! Once a Digimon fan, always a Digimon fan! In my case anyways.. When I was little, I was completely obsessed with this series and even today, Im still pretty fond of these characters and all the little adventures they went on. This movie really wasn't -that- great, but to a die-hard Digimon fan like me, I had to give it a 8 because come on.. its Digimon!!! :P Otherwise this movie probably deserves like a 4-5 if you've never seen or heard about this series before.
This movie is actually a compilation of 3 separate movies, but they just spliced them together and tried to make it flow as one. You cant really tell though so it didn't really bother me. They did cut out some scenes though to shorten this movie, but those parts didn't influence the storyline that much.
This movie was pretty funny, and it had a lot of action in it. Some of the jokes were corny and made me just shake my head. Speaking of corny, wow, the songs/sound track were lame. It was actually a little embarrassing to be honest, to have to sit through and listen to this terrible Digi-rap as a person in their early 20s. Face palm! Overall, I still found the movie enjoyable. It has a lot of action in it and kept me on the edge of my seat. If you want to see the unedited original films, you can search for them on google. The Japanese version is much more serious than the American version, and best of all.. no more childish and annoying Digi-rap/Digimon songs. Instead of the "Digimon, Digital Monsters, Digimon are the Champion" songs that they mindlessly repeat throughout the American version, the Japanese version instead has Ravel's Bolero as the main theme... well in the first part with Baby Tai anyways.
If you're a die-hard Digimon fan, you will absolutely love this movie! If you are curious about the scenes that were edited out, try searching for the Japanese version on google. If you aren't a Digimon fan then I cant really recommend this movie. It has a lot of action in it, but its also laced with corniness. Depending on your tolerance, you might be able to sit through this childish version of the original. Happy viewing!
Uzumaki (2000)
Oh no attack of the killer Zs!! Zzzzzzzz..
I had too much faith in this movie and it let me down. :( After I read the brief description about this movie.. a spiral curse? Spirals.. scary? How is that possible? And thats how it all began....
Well the movie had a pretty good set up. It had an interesting and bizarre story line that pulled me into finishing this movie. I watched with complete interest, anticipating how this movie would unfold and convince me that spirals are scary. The special effects in this movie were.. interesting. I think many people would find a contorted body slightly disturbing and yes, this movie has a lot of that. Maybe not A lot but it does have some pretty memorable moments.
Throughout the movie, you can play some "I Spy" games and look for all the little spiral symbols scattered throughout the movie. I guess you can do that if you start getting bored/frustrated with this movie. Unfortunately, this movie raises too many questions and provides too little answers which was frustrating! The events/freak occurrences were rarely explained and then the movie just ends abruptly. When it got to the ending, I was so disappointed. The movie invites you in and introduces you to the curse and how the curse affects the people in this village, but it doesn't show you how the curse/problem is resolved.
If you want to watch this movie, don't anticipate any sort of resolution in the end. This movie serves merely to introduce you to the spiral curse and thats pretty much it. No solution, no plot development/character development... no nothing! Don't get me wrong though, I enjoyed this movie while it lasted. It was a fresh breath of air compared to those generic horror movies with serial killers and screaming naked girls. Watch this movie for its originality.
If you're one of those people who need a "real" ending to these kinds of stories, then I suggest you pick up/google the manga. The manga goes far more in depth and has a lot more plot development/character development. The atmosphere in the manga is far more mysterious and the events are far more disturbing. You actually *get* an ending in the manga. Happy watching! And for those who are dying to know what happens at the end of the story like I was, happy reading! Its a great manga that is unfortunately under represented by this movie.

Zzzzzzzzz...then splat
Hmm.. I really didn't enjoy this movie. Throughout most of the movie, you'll find yourself falling asleep. The movie progresses extremely slowly and feels like a boring love story at first. As the storyline progresses, you start finding out a little more about Asami's past, which peaked my interest enough to keep watching this movie. Frankly, I was only curious to see what was inside this lounging burlap sack she kept in her room, but that was probably the only interesting part in this movie.
If you manage to stay awake long enough, the movie slaps you with a hardcore, explicit torture scene at the end (I guess this is what we were all waiting for?) If you cringe watching the Saw series, then this movie is not for you. The ending is FAR more sadistic than any of the Saw series could strive to be. Watching this ending was like listening to nails on a chalkboard. If you aren't bothered by the gore, you will at least be somewhat disturbed at how happy someone can be when they're mutilating their victim.
Overall, yeah I guess there were some cool psychological twists in this movie, but they held it all off until the near end/end of the movie when I was already more than ready to turn this movie off. The only thing that drove the storyline forward was this Romancey kind of plot development. A few randomly disturbing scenes/flashbacks would be sprinkled here and there but I was already bored out of my mind to feel anything.
This movie wasn't my kind of movie, but you might still enjoy it. If you want to watch this movie, I suggest reading a plot summary and then fast forwarding to the end. There really wasn't anything useful that happened in the beginning, except a dragged out romancey approach that failed to pull me into the movie.
Gake no ue no Ponyo (2008)
Disappointing, but still fun
After watching Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, I had high expectations for another crazy imagination filled adventurous wonderland kind of story. I feel that this movie was kind of short. Im not sure if it was shorter in length than the other movies, but it was definitely shorter in content. The characters were cute.. (how could you say no to Ponyo's little grin?) but this movie did not immerse me into the "world" as much as Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away did.
If you want to watch this movie, don't watch it with high expectations of a great adventure story/plot development like I did. It wasn't nearly as creative as those other two movies I have watched by Miyazaki. This movie reminded me of a Japanese reimagining of The Little Mermaid. Been there done that; I don't want to watch another rendition of The Little Mermaid. This movie also seems more like a "kid" movie than Princess Mononoke (definitely) and Spirited Away. If you want a cutesy, fun movie, then this is the movie for you! If you are looking for more of an exciting adventure story, then try those other two movies. :P Enjoy!
Kaidan Shin Mimibukuro: Yûrei manshon (2005)
Started off very interesting.. and then went to complete trash
Im a huge fan of horror movies, and coming across this movie really delighted me. The summary was interesting enough to pull me in, but about halfway or 3/4 into the movie I was struggling to stay awake, forcing myself to finish the movie to see whatever horrible trash ending was awaiting me.
The movie starts off very interesting. Its a father and daughter moving into these new apartments, and you notice that the tenants are extremely friendly and eager to help them move in...pretty fishy right? The story starts unraveling slowly and you find out more about the tenants in the apartment. Each tenant has their own history with the "haunted apartments." Some of their experiences with the ghosts are kinda lame or just really weird and ummm...what?, and some actually have some frightening experiences. What can I say, little Asian kids are usually the scariest part of these Asian horror movies :P. All the tenants have to follow a golden rule though; they must be home before midnight (I believe) or they die.
As the movie progresses, you find out the history of the apartments and so on. Im pretty disappointed in the way the movie ended. It had such a great build up only to be brought down by a completely random and far fetched twist that not even M. Night can rival. The twist was so incredibly stupid, and it just came out of no where! If you watch the movie, you will whole heartedly agree with me that they just stuck it in there so they can have that kind of stupid ending.
Well overall, this movie wasn't -that- terrible. It had some pretty good suspenseful parts, but the terrible ending screwed it all up. >_< What a let down! If you're bored and have nothing better to do, give this movie a try. If you're looking for a good thriller, on the other hand, its best to stay away from this movie.

Does this even deserve a genre?
I cant even describe how terrible this movie is. It started off very interesting with the tagline "do you want to meet a ghost?" I've always been a fan of Asian horror movies so I decided to give this movie a try after reading some of the reviews on this site and rotten tomatoes.
As I started watching this, I was waiting with anticipation to see what kind of story would be unfolded; the movie ended and still nothing had happened except the best part--the credits. How did this even get passed off as a movie???????? Some things I will never understand!
This movie was seriously overrated. It has a pretty slow build up that just eventually levels off because you start dozing off. My friend literally fell asleep on me in the middle of this movie. He woke up and was like "Did I miss anything?" And folks you already know what my response was. The characters in this movie were so static. They had no character development and heck, when they died I didn't feel anything at all. I actually felt happy because that was one less character who would potentially add a subplot and drag out this horrible movie. You feel no attachment to any of the characters in this movie nor do you care what they are doing or what is going to happen to them.
To answer my question, yes, this movie does deserve a genre. It belongs in the trash. I didn't like this movie, but you might so you can still give it a try. Just don't watch this movie with the expectations of an actual thriller/horror. This movie is extremely slow paced and gets caught up in its own storyline. I understand that not every movie will have a suspenseful/"scary" part but if you want to make a horror/thriller part you need SOMETHING at least! Throw me a scary face or something will ya?
Toy Story 3 (2010)
This movie has everything!
Wow.. I am speechless after watching this movie. This movie was so great!! I am completely surprised it doesn't have a higher rating! After I heard that Toy Story 3 was coming out, I had so much anticipation! I really enjoyed Toy Story, but Toy Story 2 not so much so I did not know what antics to expect from Toy Story 3. This movie blew me away!! It was everything that you could possibly want. Romance, action, drama, comedy (I cant stress how much I laughed during this movie), and suspense.
This movie did not let me down, I will tell you that. I did not like how they wrote out Toy Story 1 characters such as Bo peep and RC. However, Buzz's Spanish mode overcompensates. His facial expressions and poses were priceless! I would definitely watch this movie again not for just Spanish Buzz (even though this is good enough reason to), but for the little details that I may have overlooked the first time. This is one of the movies that will get funnier the more you watch it. What are you waiting for? Go watch it now! And if you did already, go watch it again!! This movie is a MUST SEE, but you don't need me telling you that :P.
