Cova Rasa (2020)
Intriguing From Start To Finish
This Brazilian drama (with English subtitles) is set in a small village in Brazil and revolves around a young boy who goes missing but taken by friends of his parents to be raise. Apparently, there are mystic tales about this village and a buried treasure of gold that the boy will someday lead someone to. It also revolves around the infidelities of two wives with the same man in the village. The film is billed as a drama but also is a bit metaphysical and leaves interpretation ip to the viewer.
Surprisingly, this low budget film kept my interest all the way to the end. The Brazilians are good with making quality films on a low budget!
Aquarius (2015)
Great Show.
facebook.com/proudtobeguilty David Duchovny continues to land himself in a hit series. In this case a detective series about an LA cop centered around historical events of the 60s and using the Charlie Manson killings and story as the focal point of attention where other stories of the 60s grow from. It is a interesting time-clock back to the 60s recalling JFK,Bobby Kennedy, Martin Luther King, the Black Panthers and so on. The cast is excellent and for the first time we get a bit more detailed story of Beach Boy's Dennis Wilson's odd friendship with Manson since he rarely discusses that unusual era of his life. From the show, it seems he was more involved with Manson than I originally thought. However, how much is fiction and how much is true , we will never know because the show does not claim to be anything more than based on real events. Even more interesting is Manson's involvement with those who work behind the scenes for Nixon. It seems Manson was involved in blackmail and helping some powerhouses from the political world with some serious crimes.
With what is going on today in the world and many from the "Black Lives Movement" implying that the Clintons are involved in trying to start race war taken right from the pages of Manson's playbook, the show seems to be running at the perfect time to make one ponder on the legitimacy of the Clinton campaign and whether the race war brewing is being egged on by the Clintons. It shows how races and politics were used in the 60s and now people like Bill Clinton anointing himself the self-given title of "first black president" he seems to think he was a Manson-like figure trying to save the black community from themselves. With the Clintons possibly on the way to the White House again, they may be pulling off the psychotic dream of Charlie Manson. it does seem too coincidental and this is why a new video surfaced from Black Lives Matter urging voters to stop Hillary and vote for Trump! Especially since Hillary Clinton embraces the ideas of Margaret Sanger and her views of Eugenics which boils down to being government sponsored genocide aimed against blacks and other minorities while the Grand Wixard of the KKK has endorsed the Clintons. I think this show makes us think about today and just how dangerous it is to repeat our mistakes of yesterday by throwing out these career politicians. Just as JFK and Bobby Kennedy were murdered back then, many are convinced that Ted Kennedy too was murdered and poisoned to get a brain tumor because he exposed the racist tactics of the Clintons in the 2008 race of Obama and was placed on their "enemy's list" discussed in recent books and in the news.
Season 2 started out slow but after the first few episodes, really caught fire. I hope they can squeeze out enough Manson stories to keep this series running for a few more seasons at least. I guess, there were enough stories that were important enough in that time era that should they get to the point of Helter Skelter. They are already, creatively running the Manson stories slow enough to keep the model going. Heck, they should be able to keep going with it if they take it all the way to the trials of Manson and the series writers continue to come up with clever ideas for the great subplots in each episode. Unlike the series 11/22/63 which was similar in bringing us back to the 60s, many believe it may have ran it's course after one season and there is no word yet on renewal. However, "Aquarius" is a whole different animal and highly worth some binge watching! NBC has a good hit series on it's hands here and I am confident of at least a couple of more seasons!
Feed the Beast (2016)
Excellent show, good casting, great storyline, fine acting!
One of Schwimmer's best roles along with the rest of the cast. The life long new yorker misses the point that the neighborhood is under redevelopment as is true of many urban neighborhoods in NYC. The Bronx was the worst and the last to be renovated.
And by the way, there certainly are white areas in the Bronx. I went to Catholic High School in the Bronx and the majority of students were white.
It seems this neighborhood, like many in the burnt out Bronx, has barely anyone around. Look , compared to most shows on TV , this is a masterpiece. No, it is not Martin Scorcese New York authenticity but good enough to feed my appetite.
