Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Finally a Star Trek show worth watching
After the awful Discovery series and the really bad Picard here is a show worthy of the name Star Trek. I watched the original series when I was a kid and yes it had wobbly sets, cheesy dialogue but what 60's tv shows didn't.
I've seen the first 2 episodes and I'm impressed, the characters are well written and the actors are well casted. It's obvious that Alex Kurtsmans worst impulses have been curtailed.
This is Star Trek as Gene Roddenberry intended, an optimistic vision of a future worth imagining.
Bravo to all involved in saving trek.
Old People's Home for 4 Year Olds (2019)
Wonderful
Just finished watching this on Netflix and it's definitely the best thing I have ever seen on this platform.
Everyone involved, the oldies, the doctors and especially the kids were unbelievably awesome and beautiful.
It made me laugh and cry at the same time with the joy of seeing people being so human.
Watch this and if you are not moved then you are dead inside.
Requiem for a Dream (2000)
Actually very accurate
As a recovering heroine addict myself, I can assure you that the depiction of junky life in this movie is very accurate.
I don't know what research Aranofsky did but he got it right. Junky life really is like this, it's a decent into madness and deprivation when at the end nothing matters except where the next score will happen.
This is a very brave filmmaker to show what it's really like to be an addict.
Inside Out (2015)
My Favourite Pixar Movie
I watched this at the cinema with my young daughter when it came out. She was enchanted and I was delighted with how Riley's emotions were represented.
The casting is sublime, Amy Pouler is brilliant at whatever she does and I was delighted to find phyliss from Athena Office was the voice of sadness.
Lewis Black was the perfect choice for anger and bill hader is always genius.
Best pixar film I think.
Battlestar Galactica (2004)
So Good I bought the Blu-rays
I'm amazed that Ron D Moore took a crappy 70's sci-fi show and turned it into one of the best ever made and not just the sci-fi genre.
I watched the original back in the day and even though I knew it was rubbish, it was still fun watching space ships wizzing around blowing stuff up.
Beautifully written, acted and with a great storyline I loved it. Still do.
American Gods: House on the Rock (2019)
Why all the hate ?
I don't understand why all the bad reviews here, I just finished season 2 and thought it was superb, not quite as astonishing as season 1 but that was so fantastically unlike anything before it I guess some people will be disappointed.
Basically get over it, season 2 is just as awesome as season 1 so long as you don't expect it to be season 1. As usual Ian McShane lifts everything he appears in from Al Swearengen to American Gods the man awesome.
