After (2019)
An Utter Waste of Time
Boring, flat, 1 dimensional, too quick. Numerous makeout scenes to make up for lack of plot or characterization. Characters seem almost irredeemable. Honestly, I didn't expect much, but I also didn't expect it to be this terrible.
Sierra Burgess Is a Loser (2018)
Good Acting and production, Bad Characters
First off, all the actors did a good job in portraying characters and showed a variety of emotion, but the characters themselves just don't seem that realistic.
Ok, I really did have hope for Sierra to just tell Jamey the truth. But of course she didn't. She had to be selfish about it. I honestly love that Sierra loves to read and knows a lot about literature because it's really cool. But beyond that, her character could be a lot more nicer.
As for Veronica, it didn't make much sense how mean she was and how nice she pretty much suddenly became. How does that even happen? I do like her character in the latter half of the movie though. But just because she has a bad family situation doesn't mean her character development has to be so unnatural.
And then Jamey, I like how he's not a jock stereotype. That's actually really really refreshing. However, how did he actually fall for all of that??? In real life, there's no way that could happen.
To be honest, Daniel was the one with the most common sense, but Sierra just wouldn't listen to him. I liked his character.
As for the plot...I don't even know man. Why did it progress like that?? For drama reasons? Sierra could have literally just came clean about it so many times, but no, it had to to keep going.
It was still semi enjoyable though, I just wish it wasn't so frustrating to watch. It doesn't deserve all the 1 star and 2 stars though.
As Melhores Coisas do Mundo (2010)
Best teen movie I have ever seen
I have seen good teen movies like The Breakfast Club, 10 Things I Hate About You, Mean Girls, etc. but this one was extremely well written and acted. Not only that, the movie focused on real problems in life. There was also no "perfect popular girl" clichéd kinda of characters. Everyone had to deal with their own problems. Also, I really liked the dark, realistic lighting, which completely fit the movie. I just watched "Starstruck" the other day, which seemed so pretentious compared to this gem. I also really liked Carol and Mano's older brother, Pedro, because they were both very realistic characters with problems of their own. I won't spoil it for you, but all in all, this is a beautiful coming-of-age film. This film makes me want to see more Brazilian films in the future! P.S. I created an account just to write a review for this film.
