Mr. Robot (2015)
Mr. Robot becomes one of the greatest.
An audiovisual masterpiece in every way. This is more than entertainment, and that's something that will not be for everyone. Thought-provoking, moving, majestic, unique and out of this world are the words I can find to describe the show.
Always consistent, never dropping it's quality, given the fact it always had a beginning, middle and ending planned from the start.
Remember, a Mr. Robot episode is more than just entertainment; it makes you feel, makes you think, it truly is edge-of-your-seat worthy. It has marvelous technical aspects, I would even say it's technical aspects are the best the show has to offer but I would be doing a disservice to the writing, and the acting.
Four seasons of Mr. Robot. Four seasons of standing in awe in front of your TV watching this audiovisual masterpice.
Definetely one of the greatest shows ever but without a doubt not as mainstream as Breaking Bad, let's say. Like Twin Peaks before, Mr. Robot is doomed to become just a simple cult classic. A shame, really, because this show tells a very human story in a very (intrincate yet understandable) and unique way.
Mr. Robot: Hello, Elliot (2019)
Hello, Elliot.
Emotionally packed finale brings Mr. Robot to a spectacular and unforgettable end.
This review does not have spoilers in it and the only thing I am going to say is that this series might have the best ending since Breaking Bad in 2013.
Mr. Robot solidifies as one of the best series of the last twenty years, if not of all time thanks to this majestic ending, but truthfully is because of the characters that Sam Esmail has created.
This is the story of Elliot, not the story of destroying the 1% of the 1%. Elliot is the one that matters, and we follow him through this four seasons and 45 episodes, and I have to say that his story is a human one with a powerful message.
A story of finding oneself, valuing those who got our backs, and most of all, believing in oneself. Beocming what you want to be. A powerful message that many have tried to emulate in literature or audiovisual media, but few have achieved it as well as Mr. Robot has.
The journey was magnificent and the end of this chapter in Elliot's life was too. We were part of a small part of his life, and now Elliot no longer needs us. He finally found himself.
An instrospective conspiracy-thriller with inspirations in The Matrix, Fight Club and Back to the Future leaves many jewels along the way and ends with a hopeful future.
Watch Mr. Robot. You need to.
Goodbye, friend.
Mr. Robot: 407 Proxy Authentication Required (2019)
I see you now.
Sam Esmail did it again.
Masterfully crafted from the very beginning of the series' inception, Esmail shows us once again why Mr. Robot is still the pinnacle of TV.
This episode is presented as a stage play divided into five acts (that probably represent the five stages of grief) with no voicover for the second time ever (previously in the dialogue-free 4x05). Each act builds upon the last a dramatic tension that climaxes in one of the most shocking, and yet, so obvious plot twists in recent times, and undoubtedibly Mr.Robot's darkest.
I say so obvious because from the very first scene (Ron's Coffee) and Elliot's behaviour throughout the series (no touching) we are given little hints of what was truly being hidden from us all along.
And as the audience, we too, just like Elliot, chose to ignore the truth. And tonight, the truth couldn't be ignored no more.
Now, all scenes featuring Edward Alderson took a whole new meaning, now we know why Elliot is who he is. We understand, as much as it hurts, the why of this Internal Struggle.
Rewatchability is inmense.
And in the series' most critical moment, Esmail does not dissapoint. He sets it up perfectly; music, cinematography, atmosphere, acting, and most of all, writing.
The story of Mr. Robot is strong because of it's characters. And when you feel sad that the sadistic rapist named Fernando Vera is murdered, you begin to realise, if you didn't already, how good the show is.
In that last scene: Was Vera truly moved by Elliot's truth, or was just an atempt to 'own' him once and for all?
For me, it doesn't matter. I believed him for a moment there. And I think Elliot did too.
Now we await the final confrontation between Elliot and his protector, Mr. Robot; Elliot's idealized version of his father.
This show makes you feel things because it is a story about trauma. Each character is coping with it in it's own way, even Whiterose.
What will happen with the Dark Army sotryline now are question that seem not so important after this episode, but I completely trust Esmail.
We are approaching the end of this journey. But now, let me just be in awe.
Mr. Robot is truly a magnificent experience, and it kind of motivates me to create something half as good as this. And that is more than you can ask for.
Game of Thrones (2011)
A magnificent TV series... with an extremely disappointing ending
GoT ran for 8 seasons .
GoT became a global phenomenon.
GoT had amazing story arcs, visuals, music directing and writing.
But once the show surpassed the masterfully written books by George RR Martin, struggled badly.
GoT became a joke of what it once was.
Especially in the last two seasons.
GoT was amazing, but the moment season 7 came along, that feeling that you always had while watching this series was not the anymore.
If you don't want to be disappointed then watch the first six seasons.
That show was top ten, ever. Even though season 5 and 6 were not on par with the formers they still had their moments.
GoT joins Dexter, LOST, and Battlestar Gallactica as great shows that ended poorly by their standards.
A shame, it could have gone the other way and joined Breaking Bad and The Wire.
It is not even that it was a controversial ending, it was simply rushed, which makes everything worse.
GoT had a bad ending.
This is a 9/10 mainly because of the behemoth that it was during it's prime.
The latter seasons were so rushed, none of it make sense.
I'm truly sad.
Thinking of what it could have been, all the blame goes to D&D who decided to end the show prematurely.
HBO offered 10 seasons but they chose 8 seasons making the last two, shorter.
Watch in it's entirety only if you want to feel disappointed.
Stop at season 6 and let your mind do the work.
Breaking Bad (2008)
This is how Drama should be done
Walter White's tragedy is one of the better told tragedies since Oedipus.
Walter White will go down in history as one of the most complex characters in TV.
Breaking Bad is a perfect 10/10 because it is a story well told. The build up is amazing, the CHARACTERS have meaning, they all do something and they all have their development. The story is engaging from the go and the ending is just as unexpected as it is obvious.
Six years later no movie, and no TV series has ever come close to what Breaking Bad has accomplished. Probably no one will ever surpasses it.
Breaking Bad is the definition of drama.
It is the king of drama, a tragedy that would make the Greeks proud.
Blade Runner (1982)
Timeless
One of the best movies ever made.
I watched it three times, each one better than the last.
After finishing it, you are left contemplating what just happened. It makes you think about you and the complexity of life, which for a piece of entertainment it's just more than what you can ask for.
Honestly, if you don't like the movie that's ok, but it's message is so powerful I can't even describe it.
The music throughout the movie is what really makes Blade Runner what it is. It is so beautiful that it will stay in your memory for a long, long time.
It is just so well done, atmosphere, acting, story and music mainly.
Truly an unique movie.
A perfect cinematic masterpiece.
10/10
