Severance: The We We Are (2022)
How to build suspense 101
I found myself pausing this episode so many times in bouts of pure frustration, yet the frustration was quickly overshadowed by the intense anticipation of what the next minute might hold. This is what true suspense is. A perfect balance between anticipation and frustration.
Ben Stiller, you have absolutely nailed it, again! Every episode you direct/produce is in a class of its own.
King Richard (2021)
Don't let the bad apple ruin the bunch
These 1-star reviews "boycotting" the movie is about as good judge of character as is slapping someone for making a joke. You're impulsively reacting, just as Smith did.
This is objectively a good biographical film whether you hate Smith or not, certainly not the best in its class but definitely not deserving of a 1-star.
Nightmare Alley (2021)
How is this Oscar nominated?
What you'll get:
-slow burn that ends up not burning at all
-good performances
-shaky plot
-redundant characters
-great cinematography
What you won't get:
-anything close to a best picture.
Clean (2021)
What are you doing Adrien?!
I don't understand why someone of Adrien Brody's reputation would get involved in such an horrifically bad movie. How is this the same man that stole our hearts in "The Pianist" (2002) ?
This is one of those cash grab movies you'd expect Bruce Willis to delve down to, not Adrien...
I really hope he sticks to features in great shows like Peaky Blinders and Succession.
The Boys: What I Know (2020)
All round perfect episode
This final episode was nothing short of a masterpiece. Brutal yet cunning as ever.
It's really commendable how they managed to gradually increase the quality of each episode, slowly but surely building anticipation...and like Homelander at the end, reaching a magnificent climax.
Rick and Morty: Claw and Hoarder: Special Ricktim's Morty (2019)
Why is everyone hating on this episode?
I have watched this episode for the second time now and I think I'm ready to watch it again. This episode is magnificent in every way, always catching me off-gaurd with some witty line or ridiculously offensive slur.
This episode is my second fav after Pickle Rick. Absolutely brilliant.
Hostiles (2017)
Mind BLOWN
This film exceeded my wildest expectations. An absolute masterpiece.
I have to admit, when I saw the trailer, I was kind of underwhelmed. The trailer made it look like a boring film on the history of Native Americans and the culture clash of that era, which in affect it is, but so much more as well. This film is astonishingly good in every way. The character development is superb and the acting by both famous and new actors is top class. Extra credit to Christian Bale for his performance. He deserves recognition of his own.
This film is moving and eye opening. There were times that it brought me to tears, but in the end, a happy ending makes this film all the while worth watching. I want to talk more about the character development and the superb storytelling but then this review won't be spoiler free, so I'll refrain from doing so. I just really want to emphasize that this film is an absolute masterpiece.
If you enjoyed 'The Revenant(2015)' you'll definitely enjoy this film. Personally, I think this was even better than the latter. This film is packed full of action and excitement as well as heartfelt emotional scenes that really compliment this film in it's entirety. I feel this film is highly underrated and deserves at least a 8/10.
Do yourself a favor and watch this film. It really is worth the 2h14min runtime.
Without a doubt, one of the best films of 2017.
Marrowbone (2017)
Greatly underrated film.
Don't get me wrong, this film is far from perfect, but with an open mind and a pure enthusiasm for art, Marrowbone will definitely surprise you as a imperfect masterpiece.
To keep this review spoiler free, I cannot delve too deep into the plot or development of the characters, which sadly makes it hard to describe this film, as it truly is one of those unique films that completely surprises you, just when you think you have a grip on what's going on. To give you an idea, after watching this movie, the film ["Split"2017] came to mind. If you found that movie intriguing or in any way exciting to watch, this film will definitely have you asking for more.
If you're not into horrors and the trailer gave you the idea that this is some sort of "scary" movie with spirits and demons cursed upon a family, it really isn't. In fact, there is no ghosts or mythical beings in this film, it's just a pure chair-gripping horror/adventure movie with great storytelling and immensely superb acting.
That brings me to my final summary of why you should watch this film. If you're purely into acting, the fine art of performing well behind camera, you will definitely admire this film as a pure masterpiece. All the actors were extremely impressive at their role, each portraying emotion and understanding of their character at such depth. That being said, George MacKay, playing the role of "Jack", were definitely on a level of his own and in my opinion, deserved a best actor nomination. He truly brought his character alive with his complete understanding of the raw emotions that had be precisely portrayed.
It is sad to see how such a great film with admirable storytelling and top class acting can be so greatly underrated. In my opinion, this film deserves no less than a 8/10.
Suicide Squad (2016)
Solid 8/10. Don't let bad reviews spoil it for you.
There is a fine line between being critical and being a dick. When it came to reviewing Suicide Squad, the critics and Rottentomato users completely crossed that line.
I have to admit, I like read some reviews about a film before watching it, or at least check the IMDb rating, but sometimes it just spoils the mood completely. Trust me when I say, that Suicide Squad is NOT as bad as everyone is making it seem like. That was the one question I googled before going to the cinemas to watch it. Is Suicide Squad as bad as everyone was saying and is it worth watching?
Yes. It is worth watching and no, the film is not as bad as the reviews depicted it to be. I'm not giving this film a 10/10, because yes, there were some major flaws and some cringey moments : Unnecessary script, the forced laugh of the Joker and rushing of the plot, but it was still watchable, heck I enjoyed it. I was shocked by how well the movie started, with the introduction of the characters and the motif. It's only about half way through the film, that awkward scenes and bad script makes its appearance, but is definitely not as bad as most reviewers are saying. I loved the music by the way.
I'd like to keep this review short and without any spoilers, so I won't elaborate on the flaws. Please, don't let bad reviews spoil it for you. Go watch it yourself and form your own opinion, personally I enjoyed it and would probably watch it again.
