Big Brother (II) (2000– )

Big Brother rules!!!!!!!!!!!!
9 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
If you are looking for a fun way to spend your summer involving television then you should tune into CBS'S Big Brother reality show. This is way different from survivor and such because us the viewers can actually purchase live feeds to see every house guest at every second. This show is about a group of people that move into one big house and compete to make it too the end for the $500 000 cash prize. There is love, betrayal, deceit, lies and all the good stuff that makes television entertaining.

Now in the first season way back in 2000, the contestants included a man with one leg, a beauty pageant winner, a guy who loved chickens, and 9 others. In this season two people were nominated each week by the house guests for eviction, BUT unlike seasons 2-7 America voted which house guest out of the two would be evicted. In the end Eddie, the guy with the one leg won big brother 1. He was America's choice.

In season 2 it was a whole new ball game. Tough competitions and lying was a key in this season. Houseguests were no longer voted out by America, but now voted out by there fellow roommates. A new competition was put into play called HOH (Head of household). The winner of HOH would have there own room and the power to nominate 2 people for eviction. The HOH was also safe for the week. After months of fun the evil doctor Will was the winner. The vote was 4-2 for Will

Season 3 showed a new twist to the game called the golden power of veto which gave a person the power to take off one of the people nominated by the HOH. Back stabbing was a key for many players including the devious Danielle. She made it to the end, but the person sitting beside her Lisa won big brother 3. Danielle made so many enemies that she only got 1 vote. The vote was 6-1 for Lisa.

Season 4 was labeled the X factor and the reason for this was that almost everyones ex boyfriend or girlfriend was brought in to play the game. Fights erupted and battles emerged between the exes. In the end there were two vixens Alison and Jun and like Danielle in season 3 Alisn got 1 vote and jun got 6 because Alison was not liked throughout the house.

Season 5 was named project DNA For two reasons, the first was that a brother and sister were both playing the game, but they didn't know they were brother and sister. The second twist was that one house guest was switching back and forth with there twin for weeks. So everyone would talk to one twin and then the other. In the end Drew sold out his trashy girlfriend (that he made in the house) Diane and kept his best friend Cowboy. Even tho drew deceived Diane he still won the $$$.

Season6 which was the best season yet was labeled summer of secrets because what everyone didn't know was that everyone was playing with a secret partner. Howie was aligned with Rachel, Janelle with Ashlea, Maggie with Crappy, oops i mean Eric. The house was divided in two once Crappy was voted out. One side was called the sovereign six (which was everyones favorites) and the other was called the friendship (nerdherd). HOH comps were fun as the power shifted from week to week, including double evictions. In the end two nerds including the dumb founded cow Maggie and the ever so trashy potty mouthed witch Ivette remained. Maggie won for not being so loud. Season over.

Now season 7 all stars is under way. They have brought back 14 people from past seasons. Danielle is more devious, Diane is more trashy and Marcellas cant stop whining. All I have to say is let the fun begin!!!

P. S. Go Janelle and Howie!!!!

Twilight Zone The Movie
19 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Distributor: Warner Home Video

Plot: In tradition of the popular series "The Twilight Zone", this movie has 4 thrilling tales. The first is about a bigot that gets a taste of his own medicine, The second is about a group of elderly people that wish to be younger again...they might just get their wish. The third is about a child that has telepathic powers to enslave his family. And the last (which is the best), is about a man on a plane that see's a monster on the wing of it.

Audio/Video: Pretty good from Warner Bros.

Extras: None.

Final Thoughts: Nothing beats the television series, but the movie is a pretty average horror movie. Some of the stories are a bit of a bore, but some are really exciting. Check it out if you can find it. I hear it is pretty rare.

The Fog
19 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Distributor: MGM DVD

Plot: Fog is nothing new for the residents of Antonio Bay. But on the night of it's 100th anniversary, a fog bank rolls in like no other. Eerie lights, dark figures, and the masts of an ancient schooner appear in the swirling mists. Using knife, hook and sword, they exact revenge on the townsfolk for the sins that the town's founding fathers committed 100 years ago.

Audio/Video: Excellent transfer from VHS to DVD. All of the dark areas are visible in the DVD, but not on the old VHS.

Extras: The Fog documentary, outtakes, photo gallery, audio commentary from John Carpenter and Debra Hill.

Final Thoughts: This movie is excellent. Most of the cast is from my favorite horror movie of all time Halloween. The Fog is a chilling ghost story. I heard the remake sucks, but I will have to see it before I judge. Buy The Fog on DVD, because the special features are fantastic.

Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III
19 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Distributor: RCA/COLUMBIA PICTURES

Plot: The legend that became a relentless nightmare continues. The infamous Laetherface is back in the most controversial horror movie of all time. A pair of college students driving coast to coast are lured off the main highway and on a deserted Texas road. They are stalked by the demented Leatherface and his crazy family.

Audio/video: The sound and picture quality of this VHS is pretty good.

Extras: No extras from the VHS.

Final thoughts: I have mixed emotions about the 3rd installment to the TCM series. In my opinion, after the second one they just started to go downhill from there. If you are a horror fan than most definitely check this out, but it is not as good as part 1 and is just a little worse then part 2.

Scream of the Wolf

Warning: Spoilers
Distributor: DollarDVD

Plot: Adventure writer is called in to investigate a series of brutal murders that has investigators confused. The clues are not clear and leave no clear trail. The tracks left at the murder site appear to be of a wolf. The suspense and terror builds as danger lurks in the shadows of the night.

Audio/Video: The quality of the DVD was actually better then I thought it would be considering the distributors are called Dollar DVD and the damn thing only cost a buck.

Extras: Movie trivia, the only weird thing is that it is trivia from other movies.

Final thoughts: ABC movies of the week were all pretty good, some were better then others. This one was an average made for TV movie. If you see it then get it. It is pretty good.

It's all outrageous fun as John and Mary and their children attempt to exterminate their troubles before their housewarming party is just two days away on Saturday the 13th.

Audio/Video: Good quality from New Concorde.

Final Thoughts: This movie is a mixture of horror and comedy. It is pretty average. If you are looking for a horror/comedy from the 80's then check this out, and check out Student Bodies which was made from the same year this was and is way better.

Return to Horror High
18 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Distributor: Anchor Bay DVD

Plot: In 1982, Crippen High School was the scene of brutal murders. The killer was never caught. Now a low budget film crew have returned to the school to film the story of what happened 5 years ago. But when the production crew starts dying off one by one, it appears that the crazed maniac is back. Who will survive the massacre? And what will be left of their careers?

Audio/Video: Excellency as always from Anchor Bay.

Extras: Theatrical Trailer (suprisingly this is the only extra feature from Anchor Bay).

Final Thoughts: This is one of the worst slashers in the 80's, but it is not the worst. I would advise everyone to rent before purchasing just so you can see if you like it or not. If only I got that advice before I spent $15.00 on it.

Psycho Cop
18 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Distributor: Southgate Entertainment

Plot: Six college students take a weekend trip to a mansion in the woods. Slowly their party becomes a terrifying game of survival...and just as they think their prayers have been answered, a killer cop has responded to their calls for help.

Audio/Video: Excellent picture quality.

Extras: Nothing extra on the tape.

Final thoughts: This movie has rotten acting, horrible music, atrocious directing...but somehow I always get drawn into the cheesiness of it. The lead actress is so annoying, how many times can one person say "I think we should call the police" without actually calling them. The answer is too many. The funny thing is that on the box it says "89.95 list price. Slightly higher in Canada". HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You silly people over their at Southgate Entertainment actually think that a person in their right mind would pay that much to see this piece of crap. I paid $1.50 and I still feel ripped off. Either way, if you can find this for less then a dollar then buy it, otherwise watch Maniac Cop which is 100 times better than this, or get Psycho Cop 2. It can't be any worse then this....or can it?

Plot: It's been 4 years since the great white shark attacked the small town of Amity, but there is another one in the ocean. Now Chief Brody must fight to save teenagers (including his kids) who are trapped on sailboats in the middle of the water.

Audio/Video: Not too bad considering the one I viewed was a VHS from 1983.

Halloween II
18 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Distributor: HGV video productions

Plot: Picking up precisely where its predecessor left off, Halloween II follows the same ill fated characters as they encounter the knife wielding maniac they left for dead in the first Halloween. It seems that Michael Myers escaped the fall and is now out for revenge as he stalks the VERY deserted halls of Haddonfield Memorial Hospital where his sister lies waiting. Halloween II is a spine tingling dark ride into the scariest night of the year. Halloween II...just when you thought it was safe to go trick-or-treating again.

Audio/Video: Pretty average picture quality from HGV.

Extras: None.

Final Thoughts: Haloween II is just as good as part 1. 1981 was the year when a lot of horror movies were using hospitals as their location (Visiting Hours, Hospital Massacre), but Halloween II was the best out of them all. If only some distribution company would make a complete Halloween II DVD with the television cut included. Now that would be a treat. This movie is highly recommended.
