Now more relevant than ever
14 April 2024
Not sure why I've only come across this 4yo Netflix series now but that's a good thing: it's now more relevant than ever before.

It's just so cleverly produced and looks at current society and how we would react if there was a new messiah.

What I love about the show is how it represents different religions and cultures and original language/locations.

Social Media, society, believers, non-believers, corrupt politicians.

It keeps you guessing until the last few minutes. Absolutely binge worthy. You certainly can't play a game on the phone while watching, you need to give it your undivided attention not to miss something important.

Such a shame there's no S2, it was perfectly set up at the end. However, I'm not surprised. Although religion/faith is not being attacked, certain countries/governments are shown as corrupt as they are (which they clearly don't want)

Reviewers don't understand vegan vs plant based
13 January 2024
If you're vegan, you are vegan not just for your health but you're vegan because you're against animal cruelty.

If you can't handle the facts about mass farming don't blame it on a Netflix documentary. The animal you eat didn't grow up in a Disney movie. Deal with it. You are what you eat. That's the title of the vegan documentary so don't be upset if they show you where your cheap food comes from.

The test subjects could have been a bit more diverse. The male twins were young and healthy, the female twins older and obese. Based on that I'd say it wasn't the most scientific case study but this is Netflix. Who goes to Netflix for scientific documentaries?

Seriously?
24 December 2023
If this is how the Dutch deal with terrorism they all need to be sent to an intense training camp.

Other than that terrible writing.

I can't really add much more but apparently I need another 400 characters before I can submit my post so you might as well stop reading. Plot summary: it's awful. Don't watch it.

There's really nothing to add. Absolutely terrible TV series. Almost gave up on episode 2. Episode 3 was the finale for me.

I'm not a trained police/special unit but pretty sure I'd do a better job stopping terrorists.

Do not waste your time. There's so much better content out there.

Well done, Netflix
29 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This has to be the best series Netflix produced in a while.

Great storyline, great characters, great locations/scenery.

The writing is amazing. The uncanny resemblance with current political figures is great. (Foreign secretary is an exception, it's been a while since the U. K. had a competent and likeable foreign secretary).

The war in Ukraine plus the Russian mercenaries, threat of nuclear war, tension between US/U. K. & rest of Europe- it all just adds to a great plot that feels realistic.

The last few minutes of the season finale are probably the most tense one. There better be a season S2 soon.

Stop it, Netflix
22 January 2023
The first few minutes I already knew it wasn't going to be great.

I watched a few episodes and that's it. Historically so incorrect, it hurts.

I actually didn't bother finding out who wrote the script or chose the costumes but well, some American maybe?

If you want to watch a period piece watch Bridgerton. At least that's funny. Or watch Downton Abbey. That's amazing. But don't waste your time on this.

I have the strong urge to watch Sissy now. The trilogy with Romy Schneider. Although not really historically accurate either it is still a lot more real than whatever this was supposed to be.

Not sure...
12 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Watched two episodes so far and am not sure what to make of it.

It's very dark and I thought it's quite promising, not the usual cop drama from the German speaking region. It's certainly no Rosenheim Cops.

My issue is that the characters feel empty, there's nothing I want to learn about them.

It's set in Tyrol and, if you speak German watching the original you'd expect some sort of local accent. But it's barely a hint of Austrian accent (being Austrian I'd still need subtitles for a real Tyrolean villager but that's a different story 😂). Based on the characters and story it could be set anywhere. Just boring.

I can't be bothered to find out how this could have not been an accident when the guy was hit on his bike at high speed the moment he pulls out onto the street. But based on the story it was murder so let's just go with that...

Also, when the Ducati was miraculously repaired after being smashed to pieces, she just gets on it and rides like a professional racing driver despite claiming she hasn't been on a bike in ages. No protective clothing. Wearing a normal coat. NO GlOVES. In Winter?!? Ridiculous.

The last austrian/German TV show I watched here in the U. K. was Der Pass which was absolutely brilliant. I had similar expectations and this doesn't even come close. Disappointing.

It's ok
18 December 2022
Boxer is the most interesting character and I probably kept watching mostly for him. But then there's Lawrence Fox as a hippie. What the hell? His adds absolutely nothing to the story line. Clearly as useless here as in real life. Why cast this loser in the first place? The other characters add to the story. He doesn't.

The rest is beautiful scenery, great watch during U. K. winter

Reasonably interesting story that will make you watch the entire series but you won't be raving about it to your mates.

There's not much else to say about this series but the character limit on here forces you to write more.

Underrated
30 November 2022
I really don't get the negative reviews, the low rating is absolutely underrated. Is this a marmite situation? What's with the haters? Have you watched more than 15mins of the show? Do you recognise yourself in some of those characters? If you don't enjoy the type of subtle humour and irony about our current society then surely you won't enjoy this show, just move on...and considering this is a comedy, please ignore science: this isn't a science show, it's a comedy. The geeks don't judge Star Wars on the science, why this one? Anyway, I find it hilarious! And I am convinced that is based on Elon Musk 😂🤣

Seriously? WTF?
9 August 2022
I'm not a medical professional so I can watch Greys Anatomy or Chicago Med etc without cringing about how it's not realistic. Those are realistic enough for me. However this series is an insult to anyone who's got some brain activity left. I'm sorry for all nurses who sat through an episode. Characters are annoying. Script is bad. It's described as comedy drama? Didn't laugh once. Just cringed. Either deliver a Scrubs or a Greys Anatomy. This doesn't come close to either comedy or drama.

Boring
23 July 2022
True stories usually grab my attention but I guess this is an exception. Maybe Americans shouldn't make movies about Italians. What a snooze fest. My review needs at least 150 characters but I haven't really got anything else to say.

Sci-Fi nerds need to chill

This is a great Sunday afternoon comedy for the whole family.

If you're a Ryan Reynolds fan, you'll love it.

If you're sci-fi nerd looking to pick a movie apart, pick something else.

It's not about it being too woke
28 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't care about the apparently too woke theme of the show. Like it or not, it's part of our society now, glad people can live the life they want to live.

I've got issues with the rest of it.

I'm in my mid 40s with plenty of friends in their 50s. None of us is too concerned about whether we are still cool or not. We are old enough to embrace our life and have fun without worrying what some young neighbour downstairs thinks.

Everyone who thinks episode 1 is great, please immediately sign up to a first aide course. It made me cringe and actually quite angry.

No one in their right mind wears 9 inch heals to paint walls.

I could go on but hey, just like that, I can't be bothered anymore.

Loved the original back in the day. I guess I had way too many expectations for this series, so many missed opportunities to actually make this a great series about woman and their stories in their 50s.

Great movie. Being bilingual helps
22 January 2022
Great movie. If you can't see the parallels to our current society, particularly in Britain, you need to sit down and have a think if you wouldn't have been the perfect German, the way Adolf liked them, all those years ago.

Anyway. All those offended and bad reviews are actually quite funny to read. Clearly didn't understand the movie. And reading subtitles wasn't the issue there. 🤦‍♀️

Bye Bye HC
23 November 2021
When the story originally broke I already said I can't wait to watch the movie. What an exciting weekend of watching the news it was!

I honestly didn't expect much. I was just looking forward to experience the fall of HC Strache on TV again. And what a fall it was. These days he's begging for money from his fans on social media. What a pathetic *#^*!~{^!

But this production was amazing. Fast paced. Gudenus character made me laugh. Brilliantly played. But it wasn't a story to ridicule, it was well done. The different characters were portrayed really well, their motivation as well as struggles.

Also didn't expect to be able to watch it in the U. K. Doubt many Brits will watch it but hey, love some good Austrian accent on screen here.

Can't wait to watch the downfall of Sebastian Kurz. Hope the same production team will take care of that!

The Charm of Love (2020 TV Movie)

Oh dear
11 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I don't expect Oscar quality, I just fancied an easy rom com with a predictable ending. My gawd this was bad. Writing and acting is flat. And who dressed her? Seriously? Who wears wedged heels trying to find a lost treasure on an island? Or her long sleeved tight top on a beach? Is this Iceland? And who handles a very old book in such a humid climate in an office with bare hands? The pathetic scene where she gets lost in the "jungle" (I mean, was that someone's backyard?) and the snake that was clearly thrown at her? The girlfriend/business manager/future fiancé was such a non story and her character added absolutely nothing to an already hopeless storyline. Because the whole movie was so flat these and some other tiny details were really irritating. Don't waste your time. Plenty of other easy watching chick flicks that are predictable without the massive cringe factor. Story could have made a nice chick flick. Producers failed to pull that off.

Why the bad reviews?
4 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Yes, it's not your cheesy romcom. It's a lot lore realistic. I've experienced a similar situation where I ignored my initial instincts and this guy lied himself into my life after half a year or so. He was persistent. He was manipulative. Deep down I knew something was wrong but I gave him the benefit of the doubt.

This movie is a lot deeper than those bad reviews realised because they just wanted to see yet another run of the mill comedy.

I think it's still lighthearted with enough funny moments but it also gives you a lot of food for thought and contemplation.

I'd give it a 7 but upped it to an 8 to counter this ridiculously bad reviews who didn't get what this was all about.

Stop.
19 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I get it. Covid happened. And it's still happening. For my own sanity I have now limited my exposure to the news and only follow what's necessary to stay up to date. I turn the TV on to switch off from the horror of the past year. I was really looking forward to the next season of Greys. Watched from the very beginning.

Congratulations. You made me relive a real life horror that's not even finished yet. And on top of all the Covid you kill of Deluca. Seriously. Stop it.

Not what I expected...so much better
16 March 2021
I didn't plan to watch this because I expected it to be some sort of "the real housewives of *insert random city*" which I don't find appealing. Having run out of things I decided to give it a go and ended up binging both seasons! Loved the twisted relationships that are very complex and deep and intertwined. Certainly not just a boring housewife chick flick. It portrays woman with all their fears, insecurities and dreams, what drives them, whether career or family focused. Not sure if a S3 would work but would definitely watch to see what happens next.

Started off great but the last two episodes were disappointing and rushed. Could have cut out some irrelevant scenes throughout all episodes and instead spend more time concluding the series (eg more background on the mum, what's the deal with Jakobs tattoo etc)

Didn't expect much but based on the premise of an American football coach running a soccer team. Expected the standard American saves the word sort of thing. But wow, this is great! Very funny, great writing, great acting. I guess non Brits may need subtitles though 😂.
