This Is Us: Her (2019)
All of the feels!
The writers for this programme are absolutely incredible!! The thought, detail and emotion they put into every story is just unreal! I related to so much of what the characters were going through. And the time jumps were just so unexpected in that, you would think a certain way about a character, then another time jump would show you a little more detail, and your mind was swayed a completely diffferent way. Always keeps me guessing, which I love! This so is so unpredictable in all the right ways. This episode left me in tears, from the sheer emotion it brings on. Love it
Nappily Ever After (2018)
Brilliant film ruined by one thing
This film was brilliant! I had no idea what black women do to make their hair fit into societies rules. It's unreal to me that someone can be made to feel like they have to change their beautiful natural hair just to 'fit in'. It's so refreshing to watch a movie where the lead female just learns to let go and, find who she really is. But also feel so genuine and not overloaded with Hollywood cheese. I loved the casting for this movie! I think each actor was brilliant in their portrayal of each character. My only tiny complaint is the ending. After such an uplifting and heart warming story, it just fell flat very quickly. Other than that it's a must watch
The O.C. (2003)
No other teen show compares!
I have so much love for this show! I started watching it about a year after it came out and have re-watched it probably once a year since. No other teen show has been able to do what the OC does. Not only does it follow the drama that unfolds in the lives of a group of teenagers but, it shows that people from different backgrounds can come together and forge unbreakable bonds. The friendship between ryan and seth is one of my favourite things to watch unfold. Alot of the time teen dramas focus on the relationships between female best friends so, its really refreshing that in this instance the main relationship was two guy mates. The support and love that they showed to each other was heart warming.
Kirsten and Sandy cohen.......urgh! I just love them! Their relationship to the outside world looks perfect but when you delve deeper into the show you see that they too have their fair share of problems. But no matter what they always work together to get through those bad times. I think thats a very vital thing to portray to the youth of today as, most people struggle to understand that a relationship takes alot of work, trying and understanding. We're only shown these perfect couples leading perfect lives and, this relationship was genuine.
My only negative about this whole show is that there just aren't enough seasons! I would loved to of had another couple of seasons because this is my all time favourite show from my teenage years.
Shameless (2011)
Easily a favourite binge worthy show
Living in the UK I was a huge fan of the original series of shameless which, made me dubious of the US version. I have to admit I didn't like the first season, I felt it was too close to mimicking the original and wanted more. Thankfully the characters branched out and became completely unique in their own rights. I loved the depth to the characters in this version and, how some of them had completely flipped reverse to their originals. I also love how frank's character has alot more about him in this version. He shows a different side that is both suprising and pleasant. Emmy Rossum is a stand out actor for me in this series, she portrays so much emotion in her character fiona. Its interesting to watch her character develop as the original UK fiona wasn't around for long. I will be very sad when I eventually get up to date with the rest of the series. Long may it continue!
Vanity Fair (2018)
Not how an adaptation should be done
I was really looking forward to watching this show after seeing all the previews. I was thoroughly disappointed from the first episode and have struggled to keep watching each week. Having never read Vanity Fair before and being an avid period drama fan, I was really looking forward to sinking my teeth into this. The fact that they have tried to modernise a classic novel, using modern music, having the main character starring and talking into the camera and, even the language they use is just absurd! If they were hoping to appeal to a younger audience then they sincerely failed and, alienated their already avid period drama viewers in one swoop. The only reason i am continuing to watch this car crash is because the story itself intrigues me. If I had already read the novel, I would have switched off after the first 20 minutes. Utterly disappointed.
Insatiable (2018)
Do not judge this show by the first episode
I feel like this show has been so underrated. It is absolutely hilarious! The storyline is a little wacky for my liking usually but, I really enjoyed it! Each episode just gets funnier, the characters more elaborate and outrageous. i really hope it comes back for another season as its become a new favourite of mine.
The Green Mile (1999)
One of the best films of all time
I cannot believe it has taken me this long to watch this film. It is a masterpiece! The story is absolutely gripping, complete with moments of joy and absolute heart break. I cannot compare the movie to the book as I have never read it. But I will definitely reading it now. This is definitely one of the top ten best films of all time and for a very good reason.
