Ghosts: Possession (2021)
Yes for the new storyline, no for the "very locally sourced squabs"
I like the fact that the show started deviating from the UK version. That way you can enjoyore original content and watch both shows.
Pthe part about pigeons was kinda disturbing though.
Shrill (2019)
Could be good but ended up being really hypocritical... Unless... it was intended? (Fran was great though! )
The beginning was good. Prejudice against obese people is a real problem and the show was trying to be body positive which I admired. But Annie got really annoying and hypocritical halfway through the first season. I sticked to the end though to see if it gets better.
She doesn't grow as a person, instead she just
gets more and more selfish, overly sensitive and is a bully to other people. Since there is not a lot of TV shows about obese people and her character is a real misinterpretation of most of people it can make more harm than good when it comes to stereotypes involving owerweight people.
There's a scene where she says she doesn't mind she is fat she is not defined by it. But she DEFINITELY acts like she was defined by her weight. The reason she thinks everything everyone does is because she is fat,is because she's become extremely self-centered. She wants to be treated the same way as everyone, yet she treats her blind date horribly because he's not a thin muscular guy (so I guess she wants men to see but she doesn't even give a chance to an overweight guy). She treats an awkward nerdy coworker as an inferior, yet if anyone doesn't like her or isn't attracted to her, she thinks they are dismissing her because of her weight.
I don't know what the point of the show is supposed to be. It either really hasn't been thought through well enough or maybe it was supposed to be like "Search party" where the characters are extremely unlikable to make a point. And here that would be: you shouldn't let other people bring you down and it's great to try to find your inner strength (etc) but you can't bully other and be an awful person in the process.
Ps. Lolly as Fran was adorable though. Wish I could watch more of her.
Roseanne: Lanford's Elite (1997)
Roseanne and "social elite" just don't get well together
Roseanne as a socialite is awful, awful thing to watch. Her sarcasm, harshness and bluntness might have been somewhat funny in the blue collar setting, but they just seem unnatural and annoying in a country Club, because now she's acting like she's better than everyone. She can't decide if she wants to make fun of "elite of Lanford" or become one of them.
Roseanne: Say It Ain't So (1997)
So out of character
What I used to like about the show was it's sincerity when it comes to upds and downs of marriage. Granted, Dan wasn't a perfect husband, but he was caring and loyal. Those recent episodes basically denied everything he ever was and made him act completely out of character. It spoiled the show. I understand that John Goodman wanted to work on movies (and he got sick of drama on the set of Roseanne), but they could really write him off or limit his appearance in the show in a better way.
Roseanne: Roseambo (1996)
A self-ode to Roseanne?
This sitcom is basically older than I, but it caught my interest as a very sincere depiction of working class in the 80s and 90s. I decided to watch it despite the whole Roseanne controversy. So far it was enjoyable but it lost what made it special around season 8. Since then it's been getting worse and worse and this episode was just plain garbage. I imagine Roseanne got more and more power regarding executive decisions on the show and this is how it ended. I recommend skipping the episode if you want to get to the end of this season, because it might be extremely hard not to jump the ship after watching Roseanne as ridiculous vigilante.
Roseanne: Home for the Holidays (1996)
Finally a relatively normal episode
This episode reminds me of the previous ones before it all went boring and unrealistic. Season 8 was already way worse (with all those pointless daydreaming scenes), but the ninth one is almost unwatchable. However, this episode was a really nice throwback to what the show once used to be (a sitcom about a blue collar family).
I'm really mad about what they did to Dan. It's so out of character and so unnerving.
Sweet Tooth (2021)
Don't let the ears (and antlers) fool you
At first I thought "Kids with animal parts? No, thank you", but after one episode I couldn't stop watching. It has everything I like: post-apocalyptic world, mysteries that you uncover one by one, great story and likeable characters. It is also beautifully made.
The series doesn't shy from the violence and its not for kids (it might not be obvious for some people). You can get used to kids with animal ears etc, although the tiny beaver guy made me cringe. The MC is perfect (the character design and they chose a great actor).
I haven't read the comic books, so this is just an opinion of a person who likes post-apocalyptic mysteries and sometimes fantasy.
Kim's Convenience (2016)
A real feel-good series
I often get confused with countless tag on Netflix. But watching this show made me realize what they meant by "feel-good" tag. It makes you laugh, happy and have this warm feeling of unity and closeness. There is not a lot of drama, the characters are extremely likeable and you can get to know Asian culture better. And the cold opens are amazing. I feel like it's a must-see series, especially now when so many people treat Asian-Americans badly. It's sad the show ended.
Dead Pixels (2019)
Hilarious. And a real gem.
As a person who used to play games a lot, I really enjoyed this show. The references were on point and it really brought back the memories of the time when I played a mmorpg game for 8 hours a day. The grind is real ;D
The show is incredibly funny. And I fell for main characters who are socially awkward and prefer spending time in imaginary world. Especially Meg who is both extremely real and funny.
The game itself is a little bit unrealistic at times but I guess they needed to make it more appealing to the viewers.
Ps. I am not a critic, so I am not trying to review the quality, actors etc. This is my subjective opinion about the show.
Man Seeking Woman (2015)
Hilarious
Surreal and extremely ingenious.
Remember JD's awake dreams/imagination in "Scrubs"? Now imagine a whole show like that.
Some D jokes were maybe too much for my taste but otherwise the show made me laugh so many times I had to dose the episodes and watch only 2 or 3 a day. There are soo many things going on and it parodies everything (life, relationships and different movie genres).
Search Party (2016)
Wow, it blew my mind
Season 1 might be slow at the beginning but later it destroyed me. It was ridiculous. What is great about this show it shows how self-obsessed and selfish people can be.
How to Get Away with Murder (2014)
First three seasons were ok but then it got unwatchable
The premise of the show is very good, Viola Davis is great, but they kinda overdid it after season 3. The plot got too twisted, the writers started coming up with more and more unbelievable stories and the show got too dramatic to watch. At one point I caught myself rolling eyes on ridiculousness of the whole plot. It started reminding a high school drama or poorly written telenovela. It got so annoying that I decided to stop halfway through season 4.
13 Reasons Why: House Party (2020)
The best episode so far, still, Clay's storyline get more incoherent and weird
The beginning was a little bit too much. Will they ever explain how did Clays drug test was positive? Did he get dissociated and he has not recollection of smoking weed? Why? Are they building up to a finale that utterly destroys Clay and his chance for a normal life after high school? Is it going to turn out that he did a bunch of weird stuff and he doesn't even remember them?
The first part of the party was great. Especially Clay talking to Zach. It felt like previous seasons. I'm glad poor Clay finally hmmm... did it. But what happened in the second part of the party, Clay's total freak out, it was too much. Everything is getting to a point when Clay either hurts himself or someone else. Im really hoping it won't end up like that. Although its kinda already started happening. But maybe he'll get himself together after the accident. He really need a little bit of break.
13 Reasons Why: Senior Camping Trip (2020)
What was the point of this episode?
First, it's so unrealistic. Clay has been having panic attacks and he decides to go on a trip when he knows he won't be able to deal with "pranks" and attacks from the jocks? And why is Jess hanging out with that guy? Let's admit it, that so called prank was seriously creepy and those phone calls were practically bullying. She claims that she doesn't need a guy but she's been getting closer tho the jock guy just to make Justin jealous? Okaaay.
Secondly, can't anyone see Clay is on the edge? They really overdid this Clay-getting-out-of-his-mind storyline. Also, anxiety and panic attacks are also an important topic that needs more awareness. But the way that show is being, it's not going to start any conversations, like the first or second season did.
Thirdly, what is a purpose of this episode? It really seems like a filler. It seems like it doesn't move the story forward. The whole storyline is kinda weird this season, it doesn't go anywhere. It's like protagonists were waiting and trying to get through until the graduation.
13 Reasons Why: College Tour (2020)
Give the boy a break, would you?
Clay used to be an okay character. I know he could be too much, he was self-righteous, stubborn and kept everything inside until he couldn't anymore and then acted stupid and impilsive. But now it's really hard to believe he would behave like this. He's just running around and yelling. I think panic attacks would be enough. But those phone calls? It's just too much. It's like the writers are trying to come up with some Shyamalan ending and it's going to turn out that everything was just in Clay's head or his subconsciousness couldn't handle the fact that he'd covered up a murder and he was the one responsible for "Monty was framed" graffiti, or some other weird bs. Just give him a break let him enjoy a his final year just a little bit.
13 Reasons Why: Winter Break (2020)
Can it all still end good?
I decided to watch till the end to see what the writers came up with but the show barely reminds what it used to be in season 1 and let's say 2. It reminds me of one of those 2000' TV shows with destructive protagonists. It feels like it can't end good anymore, like the only reasonable thing would be to kill everyone off or put them in jail at the end. Since season 3 the show has been becoming more and more bs, very unrealistic and making you lose all the respect you had for everyone before. Why is Clay even with Ani?
I'm glad Clay is back to being a narrator. I know they probably wanted to make us doubt Clay in season 3 that's why they made Ani a narrator but I really hoped she would end up being a killer and we wouldn't have to watch her in season 4.
Plus for Clay's new hair.
I guess.
13 Reasons Why: The World Closing In (2019)
This show's lost what used to make it good
During the first and the second season 13 reasons why was a dark, sad show but even though everyone had their flaws, you could see that Clay, Tony, Jessica and others were good friends. There were some very warm uplifting scenes like when everyone joined Clay on the dance floor during Spling fling. Now it's all gone. Everyone suspects each other, there's hostility and nobody talks. Only Tyler scenes bring some of that previous vibe (they are extremely sad but you can see others really care for him now).
New Girl: Reagan (2016)
Reagan is just "meh", missing Jess
Even though Jess used to be too much, I've grown to like her. Now she left an empty spot that is hard to fill. But I think the other characters would be ok without introducing "perfect" Reagan. She seems really fake. Other characters are much more likeable and realistic. She doesn't even look tha great next to Cece. Maybe she'll get more interesting later on, but I'm counting down episodes to Jess return.
Grace and Frankie (2015)
Adorable!
The show has amazing and unique quality of making you adore every character. And even though it tackles some serious issues, it does that gracefully and tactfully. At the beginning I was sceptical. Why watch a TV show about 70 years olds? It turns out it was worth it. The main characters are amazing, the show is witty, funny and makes you feel good. It shows that even when we're in our 70's, we still feel like we did before and we can do a lot of great things and still want to feel sexy and important. I'd show this to everyone who thinks that when you are 70 years old, the life is practically over. And to everyone who has anything against gay people.
Mad About You (1992)
Very nice
At the beginning it was hard to get back into it, but after 3 episodes it started reminding me of the previous episodes. Yes, the actors changed in 20 years and yes, Helen's face has something disturbing about it, but they got back into their roles from 90s and it's believable, at least for me. The problems they face 20 years later are somewhat different, but they seem like Jamie and Paul from before.
Grey's Anatomy: It Only Gets Much Worse (2017)
It's a miracle some patients survive operations in GSMH
I watch the series since the beginning. I know that lots of drama is a big part of it, but recently it's been too much for me. Characters are just screaming at each other, acting like in a high school. They argue in front of the patients and even during the procedures. It's not the first time I've seen them yelling over an open body, but I think it's escalated especially in this season. Surgeons in GSMH show a total lack of professionalism. I'm not an expert and I couldn't decide which approach of teaching is better. But regardless of their problems they shouldn't have tried to solve them in the OR.
***This episode spoiler***
Watching this episode made me even more scared of hospitals. I really hope surgeons in the real hospitals act more professional. I was seriously surprised no more patients died in this episode. I was really angry the little boy died. I know it wasn't Edwards' fault but she shouldn't have been operating on a 9-year old. I'm sure Robbins would have better chances repairing the severed artery. Also it was weird to watch an episode without Meredith, Alex and Amelia.
Bones: The Mystery in the Meat (2013)
Are they in high school?
I felt like I was watching some kind of after school special. Angela was furious with Booth for breaking up the engagement. She was right to be, she's Brennan's best friend and she tried to protect socially awkward Temperance. I get it. But when Seeley became angry and offended it was too much for me. He must have known how it looked like him breaking up the engagement out of the blue(I was surprised that Brennan didn't want to leave him. I know it would be too complicated and it would take a lot of time to reunite them but it Brennan acted like she was this silly girl who depends on her man and tolerate everything : () It's understandable Angela was disappointed in him. She didn't know that it was because of Pelant (a little bit too much if you ask me). Booth should apologize for acting like this not be offended and angry at Angela. ***tiny spoiler regarding this episode*** And Brennan was asking him if she can have a bachelorette party with Angela? Really, I felt like I was watching a show about some high school kids.
Bones: The Lady on the List (2013)
About the falcon and inaccuracies in the show
I really enjoyed scenes with Hodgins taking care of the falcon but I find it important to mention that "rangle" is not the proper name for the part of the food regurgitated by a bird. Birds of prey (but not only) cast pellets not rangle. Rangle is a name of tiny stones that are fed to falcons to aid in digestion.
This is not the first time I noticed such inaccuracy in Bones. I read some of the reviews of the previous episodes and apparently it's quite common. I don't understand why the writers can't do some more research. It's really not that hard. However, I like the fact that the cases in the show are very diverse and you can learn about various things while watching it. Remember to DOUBLE-CHECK THE FACTS, though ;)
