Das Boot (1981)
Realism from the other side (Germany)
Being a WW2 buff and having an extensive collection of movies and memorabilia from that era, I feel qualified to state this is one of the better if not the best war movie ever produced.
Excellent direction makes it highly believable, almost putting you on the boat with the personnel. It is best watched uninteruppted. Forgo the popcorn until the end.
Even though you know many of the boat at sea scenes are not actual, it does not fail to give you the impression that they are on the rough seas. I could almost feel the salt spray envelope me.
Don't hesitate to put this one in your collection. You will watch it again and again.
An Angel for May (2002)
Good movie for young and old
I usually am not a fan of what I would consider a "vanilla" movie, but I was taken with this one. Actually, I got it for the wife to watch. After 5 minutes I was caught up in the plot and had no problem watching it to the end. Which I may add, the ending was a surprise for me. I would call it a fantasy film and highly entertaining. I thought the young lady that played the role of May was outstanding. Her portrayal of a somewhat unclean and uneducated young girl only enhances the ending. The photography was pleasing and does not overwhelm. All characters in the movie are well suited for their role and do not have a tendency to overact as many do in "vanilla" movies. Watch this one for a change of pace.
White Noise (2005)
Not representative of EVP
Although it is scary enough for the average movie watcher, it does not represent 99 percent of EVP being conducted today. I enjoyed the movie though. Having experimented with EVP for years and having some success, I was able to realize this was not a serious movie about EVP.If one wants to seriously become involved in the study of EVP, there are plenty of serious websites solely devoted to the disipline of EVP, AAEVP being one.
I thought the acting was certainly on par and special effects were scary enough, but took it for entertainment value only. I highly recommend it for persons who enjoy movies concerning the paranormal.
