The Descent (2005)
Watch it, it's awesome.
I watched The Descent a few years ago now, but realised I hadn't written a review, and it definitely deserves one. It scared the hell out of me! It's not often that a film makes me jump out of my seat, but this one did. I watched The Descent not knowing anything about it apart from some women go cave diving. That's the way it should be watched.
The Directing is very well done and the acting excellent. If you know nothing about this film don't read up on it too much, just watch it and enjoy.
Make sure you watch the UK version though and not the North American one, the UK version has the best ending.
Definitely deserves 10 stars.
Spring Break Shark Attack (2005)
Come on it wasn't that bad!?!?
If you think this film is dreadful then clearly you haven't watched Mega Shark v's Giant Octopus, Transmorfers, The Day the Earth Stopped etc, etc, etc. Compared to those beauties this film deserves an Oscar.
I started watching this film thinking it was going to be absolutely dreadful but I was quite surprised, it wasn't that bad. I think this may have something to do with my incredibly low expectations when watching anything on the Syfy channel. If you think about it, it's actually more feasible than Jaws, but I'm not say it is in anyway better! But I did find it more believable that the guy out of Cocktail could lure tiger sharks in with bait and then they start attacking people, rather than one massive great white with a chip on it's shoulder starts going on a murderess rampage and is so strong that it can even take out boats, and it can roar!
I think most people would find this film vaguely entertaining and not feel like they've waisted too much of their life on it. Watch with extreme pessimism and you can only be pleasantly surprised.
Shutter Island (2010)
Hmmm... a little disappointed
Maybe I was expecting far to much from this film. When I saw the rating I thought this is going to be good. I think nearly everyone thought at some point 'I bet he's a patient' but then thought 'no that's way too obvious there has to be a better twist than that'. Sadly I was disappointed he was insane, and a patient, simple as that. I was expecting much more, as this kind of twist has been done many times before and I personally thought Identity with John Cusack was much much better and definitely deserves a higher score than Shutter Island. That said the cast is great and the acting is very good and it's definitely not the worst film and lots of people will enjoy it and have, as the ratings show.
The Unborn (2009)
Hmmmm... if you're honest it's not a very good film really is it?
I'm a fan of Gary Oldman and was hoping that with an actor of his class appearing in this film it might actually be a good horror film. Unfortunately I kept finding myself a bit bored and finding excuses to do something else like make a cup of tea, fold up the laundry or paint my nails. I got up to go to the loo at one point and my boyfriend said "shall I pause it?" which I replied "no it's alright I don't think I'll miss much". I was quite glad when it ended so I could get on and catch up on some CSI's. There was the odd frightening bit but not many and I didn't find myself caring for any of the characters, so as some of them got bumped off I wasn't that bothered, just your usual attractive teens/20 something's being chased around by evil creatures. The scariest bit was with those horrible looking insects.
It's definitely watchable but if you have Sky movies wait to see it on there so you don't feel like you've wasted your money.
The Happening (2008)
Ummmm... what just happened?
Blimey words can not describe how truly bad The Happening is I'm still in a state of shock. The acting was terrible and I wasn't sure whether it was actually meant to be a comedy as I found myself laughing quite a lot. The two main characters are normally very good actors so I can only assume that they got five minutes into acting in this film and thought 'this is rubbish I can't be bothered to act anymore'. It's almost worth watching just so you can say "Yes I agree with everyone it really is that crap!" It's a shame because if you watch the trailer for this film you think oooo... that looks good, so I would suggest you just watch the trailer as it contains the only good parts of the film.
Evan Almighty (2007)
A very average film
After watching this film I did think to my self "Well that was a waste of nearly two hours of my life". I'm not quite sure what point it was trying to make, it just seemed to go no where. It contained a good cast whom given a good script would have probably pulled out brilliant performances but unfortunately they didn't have much to work with. Maybe a good film for kids who aren't really looking for the point of the film and will be entertained by the animals and special effects. All in all I yawned my way through this film, luckily on my sofa on Freeview, if I had paid to watch this at the cinema I'm sure I'd be more annoyed.
Pretty in Pink (1986)
You'll love it or hate it....
I must admit that this is one of my favourite films, probably because I saw it on TV just after it came out and thought to myself that it would be incredibly cool to be Molly Ringwald. I have now changed my mind about that but I still rate this as a must see film for all those of you who like to delve into a little 80's teen fantasy. One thing I didn't know until recently was as soon as filming had finished for Pretty in Pink, Andrew McCarthy was signed on to play the lead in Less Than Zero and, at the last moment, John Hughes decided he wanted to change the ending of Pretty in Pink to what it is now, but Andrew had already shaved his head for his next role and lost a lot of weight. To solve this problem, Mr. Hughes had him don a wig for the last scene of Pretty in Pink. So that explains the weird hair and gaunt face.
If you like this film then you must watch Weird Science, 16 Candles, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Breakfast Club and top it off with the more current Not Another Teen Movie.
The Sweetest Thing (2002)
Possibly the worse film I've ever seen
Was it suppose to be funny? I'm sorry, if it was it completely went over my head. Cameron Diaz what were you thinking?! I really struggled to sit through the whole film it was that terrible. It had the potential to be quite funny, if every gag hadn't of been awful. I was actually embarrassed to watch it, it was like sitting through a sex scene with your parents. I started to get so embarrassed at how bad it was that I had to turn it off for a while and have a breather.
I have a list of top ten worse films I've ever seen and The Sweetest Thing is firmly at the top at the moment.
If you haven't seen this film yet, please don't bother it will melt your brain..........
