No Time to Die (2021)
I guess it's just me. . .
After viewing, "No Time To Die," I expected to visit this page and see dozens of 1 and 2 star reviews. I was shocked to see reviews that are largely positive. Oh well, I guess my opinion just doesn't align with the masses. That being said, I walked away from this moving saying, "Wow, that sucked."
My husband and I have been James Bond fans for many years. After buying the Bluray boxed set, we have watched every movie in order from Dr. No to Spectre on many occasions. The actors come and go, but James Bond never changes. He is a man--suave, sophisticated, handsome, resourceful and fearless. When Daniel Craig strolled out in the opening scene wearing a tan, corduroy suit I figured it would be all down hill from here, and I was right. The story was weak; the villian forgetable. The scenes were long and boring. Even the action scenes were lackluster with endless go-rounds of random shooting where no one ever gets hit.
The only positive things that I can say about this movie are: 1. I'm glad they brought back the fun spy gadgets that were few and far between in the previous Daniel Craig movies. 2. Ana de Armas--a total scene stealer--lovely and believable.
I miss the humorous one-liners that James likes to deliver and the beautiful on location scenery. While I agree that sexist comments and slaps on the behind are no longer considered acceptable, there is no reason why James cannot be the object of female attention. It's who he is--irreistable to women.
Without a doubt, the worst part of this moving is the ending. James Bond NEVER says, "I'm not going to make it" and then stands still and waits for death--NEVER. James Bond cheats death--he always cheats death. I have nothing against Lashana Lynch, but killing off James Bond so that you can make her the new 007 is ludicrous. James Bond has worked closely with other "double O's" in lots of movies. It makes more sense to bring Lashana on as a new 00, and let her fight Spectre alongside James Bond. This is just the humble opinion of a life-long James Bond fan.
The Missouri Breaks (1976)
If you value your time, don't buy into these 9 star reviews. . .
I fell for the positive reviews, settled in to watch this movie (with high expectations), and proceeded to waste two hours of my life. I am still shaking my head. Whoever wrote this screenplay was certainly on something. The story jumps around like a lesson in attention deficit disorder. The characters are shallow and quirky. One minute you are watching a violent murder, and the next moment the cowboys are frolicking in the mud with background music that would suit an episode of the Beverly Hillbillies. Take my advice--stay away from this one. You will thank me.
The Kids Are All Right (2010)
Wish I could give zero stars
God awful film. Lasted 10 minutes, removed from bluray player, promptly dumped into trash can. . .not kidding.
The Most Wonderful Time of the Year (2008)
One bad scene
What a shame. One bad scene puts a negative spin on an otherwise great Christmas flick. I really enjoy the characters, amusing one-liners, and predictable but fun plot. Henry Winkler is a bright spot as always. Unfortunately, the scene when the main characters assault a man behind his store and then leave him lying unconscious is just too foul to overlook. The characters behave as though beating a man with a metal trash can is a big joke, but there's really nothing funny about it.
I like everything else about this movie. What a shame that someone didn't see the implications of a violent scene and edit it before the film was released. I still watch the movie at holiday time, but that one scene spoils it for me every time.
