The Diplomat (2023)
Best TV series right now
The writing of the show is so good that it will make you binge watch the entirety of the season in one go. This is not an exaggeration. There have been a lot of terrible shows lately. I'm not sure why that is other than producers have become too businnessy, too concerned about the bottom line, that they really don't care to put in the effort for better quality. If a series is mediocre and it'll make them a few bucks, then they'll produce it. Then it's on to the next mediocre series. I'm glad to see that this show is not one of those mediocre series. It's not only smartly written, but it's perfectly acted. The characters are enthralling, funny, unique, and entertaining. The actors that play these characters are not only believable, but likable. The dialogue is sharp and quick. The pace is just right. I honestly can't think of one thing I dislike about the show. I do not say that about a lot of shows. If this show doesn't win a boatload of Emmy awards, then those words mean nothing.

Once you start watching, you won't stop
This is a truly binge worthy show. The unique cast of characters and the plot twists keep you wanting more. Streaming series have been so slow and cringe lately so it's refreshing to see such a well-made series that has just the right amount of pace and comedy. While there are some awkward moments, you can overlook them quickly as the storyline progresses quickly. And yes, the fact that the ladies are stranded on an island is unrealistic, but it doesn't matter because the show isn't meant to be taken seriously. In fact, that's the fun part about the show. It's just fun and that's the point. Just let yourself be entertained.
Spring Break Nightmare (2023)
Head slappingly dumb
I'm not sure which is worse: two kidnappers who have no real reason to do a kidnapping in the first place or the fact that the kidnappee, who is practically a pro athlete, can easily escape from being tied up with ropes but can't manage to run two feet and get away from the bumbling kidnappers. Spoiler alert: at one point, she even jumps into a river to try and get away, but even doing that seems to fails. Apparently, as a surf pro, she can't swim fast enough away from the kidnappers who are themselves not in the river but are on a dingy. Who knew all they had to do is reach down and catch her. She even had a head start on them but their long reach was all they needed. At no point is this an enjoyable movie. But, I can't say I'm surprised given LMN and Lifetime have been lately sacrificing quality for quantity. Nothing is believable about this storyline either. There are just too many excuses: the boyfriend is a gambler, a cheater, a master kidnapper, etc. The mother and the detective are terrible too. What detective would listen to a sketchy phone call from a kidnappee who does a terrible job of pretending not to be kidnapped and not think twice about it? Don't waste your time with this one.
Mindcage (2022)
Good grief, this was bad, oh so bad
I can't believe movie executives sat around a board room and thought that this movie would be a good idea. They were so wrong and should consider a career change in life. I can't believe they actually spent money making this pile of garbage. I question the judgement of all who produced this. The plot is not only boring, but it does not make sense nor does it leave viewers with any realistic answers. The plot certainly isn't helped at all by the terrible dialogue. And everything from the acting to the special effects to the editing was bad. I can think of a million other movies that should have been made in place of this crap.
Willow (2022)
WTF
When I was a kid, I loved the movie. This TV series is nothing like the movie. The editing, the dialogue, the acting, the storyline are all awful. It literally checked off all the boxes for millennial wokeness in the first 20 minutes of the first episode. And as a kicker, the attempted humor is both awkward and flat. The story is about rescuing a prince, yet there seems to be no actual urgency or deep enough concern in the first two episodes to actually rush to wherever it is they need to be in order to do the rescuing. They just spend time in some woods bickering at one another and dealing with their feelings and emotions over whether or not they are good enough to live the lives they dreamed of, not the ones their parents want them to lead. Oh the millennial drama! It's so anti adventure that I'm going to have to pass on the rest of the season. But for those of you who do want a modern millennialesque saga complete with coming of age and overly sensitive dialogue and themes set in a fantasyland, you might want to stick it out.
