I Still Believe (2020)
A Real Tear Jerker
I am a huge fan of Britt Robertson - mainly as a result of her performance in Mr Church. In spite of my regard for her however, I was a little reluctant to see this movie, due to its association as a religious movie. In the end my regard for Britt won over and I took the plunge. I need not have been concerned as the religious content was very subtle and was perfectly within the context of the story.
This is easily Britt Robertson's best performance to date and the way she interacted with K.J.Apa was remarkable. You could really feel the bond between them which by all accounts was genuine and it showed in the excellent performances from both of them.
This is a very moving film and anyone who doesn't shed a tear of two could only be made of stone.
Beautifully shot and directed and interlaced with some really nice music. Definitely one of the better movies of recent times and highly recommended.
My seven star rating might seem a little low in view of my approval but I am a harsh judge and my rating is very much in line with IMdB's.
I guess everyone is aware that the movie is based on actual events. I have no idea how accurately it depicts them but it would seem that it hasn't strayed too far from the truth.
The Irishman (2019)
Lengthy Gangster Flick
I confess I don't like gangster movies. As such, I normally would never consider seeing this film but it has received so much hype that I figured that maybe it would be different from the rest: It wasn't.
There is no denying the quality of the production - everything about it is executed to perfection, great direction, beautifully shot, excellent acting but, it is a gangster movie and I just can't relate to it.
Although there is a degree of interest from an historical perspective - particularly matters relating to the union movement, I am not from the USA and they don't mean as much to me as they otherwise may have.
I did find the film a little difficult to follow at times - often the case with gangster flicks, and at 3 1/2 hours in length it does tend to drag a little. I think it may have been better reduced to about 2 hours.
A lot of reviewers have rated this movie very highly, Ratings that it probably deserves for its quality but at the end of day, a movie is primarily intended to entertain - something that it failed to do for me.
As I say, I don't like gangster movies and in hindsight, I should have avoided it.
The five stars are for the film's quality, If I was rating it for entertainment value alone it would have received just one.
Monster Party (2018)
Horrible Horror
I am not a fan of horror movies and this movie reinforces that view.
Under normal circumstances, I give a wide berth to any movie that has the word horror in its description but as this one has Erin Moriarty as one of its lead actors, I made an exception. Big mistake, not only was it a horror movie it was also horrible. It gets two stars because I actually watched it to the end.
Erin Moriarty was wonderful in 'The Miracle Season' and I was sort of hoping that she would carry on where she left off for this movie. It only goes to show that no matter how talented an actor may be, if they get a dreadful movie to star in with appalling direction and an atrocious script they aren't going to come off all that well. At least she looks amazing.
Why do they make this rubbish?
I honestly can't find a thing in this, dreadful story line, dreadful script, awful acting and made on a very low budget.
The Diary of a Teenage Girl (2015)
Another Rubbish Movie for 2015
2015 seems to be the year that has spawned a plethora of new movies - certainly far more than in previous years. Unfortunately, not many of them are very good - it really is a case of quantity before quality.
This film isn't the worst movie that was released for the year but it's very close to it. I endured this rubbish for about an hour after which I just couldn't take any more and gave it away.
This is a really bad film which to my mind, does not have a single redeeming feature. Very poorly cast, dreadful script, terrible direction and awful script.
Another movie that has seemingly gone out of its way to use the word f--- in every single sentence. People simply don't talk in this manner in real life - sure the odd adjective here and there but in every sentence? It seems that the cameras were manned by a bunch of new apprentices on their very first job not helped by the washed out color that is presented to anyone unfortunate enough to be viewing it.
It absolutely amazes me that anyone can see anything in this. I can only conclude that it's somehow expected that they appreciate this type of nonsense as it's art or some such rubbish. Unfortunately, the more people heap praise on this type of garbage, the more of it we will see.
Save your money and go and see something else.
Tangerine (2015)
Dreadful Movie
I don't know if this is the worst movie ever made but it's damn close if it's not.
Movies are primarily meant to entertain. I can't see what is entertaining about watching a group of deviates and misfits using the most vile language and generally doing their utmost to repulse anyone unfortunate enough to be viewing it.
The film does no favors to the black community and a number of migrant groups don't fare much better. I don't for one moment believe this film to be a true reflection of life in the USA but if it is then I'm glad I don't live there.
Admittedly I didn't see the last half - I had well and truly had enough by the half way mark.
It's rubbish like this that is dragging the movie industry down and to try and kid yourself that the movie has something is only ensuring that we will continue to have this type nonsense thrust upon us.
