Flight World War II (2015)
Pure Silliness
Satisfies the Hollywood clichés .The muscular stewardess beating up men fits the template. The strong and handsome white dude was the antihero -check. The black soldier was the good guy-check.The biggest hero was a latino. The Pilot's name was Jack Strong but looked more like a dude named Tafir. Hilarious. The only accurate part of the movie was the ancient stewardess who I believe was a former Star Trek OS actress. Political correctness has ensured many of those on the airlines now .Cramped seats and crabby postmenopausal women throwing mini snacks at you-wonderful
Me 262's couldn't fly more than 550 mph and the 757 flies at 610 with much longer range. They couldn't have kept up. As for the people who fell out of the plane in the past -shouldnt they reappear in the future as they weren't likely born at the time?
They should take this film and throw it out of an airplane at 30000 feet over the Ocean . We can take the usual political correctness if its shoved at us in a good movie but this was adding insult to injury.
Guys named Jack Strong don't look like this and they don't have an Indian accent. How could any experienced movie maker keep a straight face making this movie? .
Note to Hollywood- most women can't beat up most men. Not all minorities are the police chief, the head physician, the mayor etc .Many of them are committing violent crimes out of proportion to their percentage in the population. Not all white Caucasian men are evil or foolish clowns. Heterosexual relationships and marriages can actually be loving and end well.
Whats amazing to me is that Hollywood thinks nobody is noticing their leftist political message. Many have and they don't like it.
The Fall (2013)
If this is policing in Ireland someone needs to be fired
We know the formula for a modern TV show is that a white male always has to be the bad guy and the strong man-hating female lead has it in for him. Littered along the wreck of a plot there has to be female to female kissing etc etc.
But I expected a plot that made some sense and a police force that actually efficiently rounds up the bad guy. I didn't expect a woman who was not only a Keystone cop but a sl*t on top of it to be the lead.
None of the show is believable .Its very slow moving and bizarre .Its on the level of a bad pornographic movie with plastic characters thrown into the series like random darts given flight in a bar full of drunks.
At the end of the second season the turgid lead Anderson is holding the killer rather than seeing if the man she slept with the night before is hurt after both were shot.
A fitting end would have been the killer garroting the already lifeless Jillian Anderson and sparing her audience the misery of her acting .
Above all, this show lacks any sense of propriety or decency .Its just plain creepy from start to finish.
Before Midnight (2013)
Self indulgent Dribble
I unfortunately watched this movie hoping there would be something in it of some redeeming value. After all a movie two hours long without any major plot line or action should have some message . What I got was 2 unlikeable characters whose continuous rambling was noxious and uninteresting .
Yes the modern Hollywood trend is to show heterosexual relationships in a bad light while espousing unwed marriage and homosexuality as wonderful things. One gets used to this trend and tolerates it if the rest of the movie is any good.
If this is the liberal version of true love then marriage would cease to exist. The only reasonable thing in this movie was that at least it showed the angst that divorce causes when it comes to children.
What a mess has been made of marriage by the left and the children harmed by self indulgent characters like these are an example for all to see.
If one wants to see true artistry about the complexity of marital relationships and family watch Winter Sleep by the Turkish Director Ceylan. That movie is light years ahead of this pretentious farce.
Looking at the preposterous positive reviews of this movie reminds me of people staring at a patch of yellow on the wall in a modern art museum remarking at its sophistication and brilliance only to be gently informed by the security guard that its a fade spot in the wallpaper .Monkey sees as monkey does.
Space: Above and Beyond (1995)
Memorable and engrossing
This series caught my eye when it first aired . The script writing was top notch and the stories were often intense. The characters were well played by the actors especially James Morrison as Lt. Mcqueen. Its didn't have the politically correct fluff of Star Trek's sequels like
Star Trek's The Next Generation and Voyager. Its special effects were reasonable for when it was made but not spectacular.
Anti-war types wont like the show but who cares about those fluff balls anyway. You will care about these characters and will be left wishing that their virtual lives could have been prolonged more than a season.Great shows sometimes don't appeal to the masses or they are moved around in their time slot too often as this one was. Some are expensive to produce and need exceptional early success to pay the bills.
As Emerson wrote ""War educates the senses, calls into action the will, perfects the physical constitution, brings men into such swift and close collision in critical moments that man measures man"
In this series the characters grow and their measure becomes greater as they embark on the missions that make this show memorable and engrossing.
