See: The House of Enlightenment (2022)
Plot holes? People reading too much into this show.
Of course there are plot holes in this show. There are sooooo many plot holes in 98% of sci-fi, fantasy, action shows, and even rom coms. This show opened with a very engaging visual spectacle, and has continued to provide those spectacles at regular intervals. This visual spectacle is the primary draw of the show, not the dialog. All you negative reviewers need to remember what this show is even about. It's not meant to live up to real-world physics laws, it's meant to make the viewer say: 'holy fart tbhat was cool!' Or 'Eeeeew! Did you see that?!' Or 'Why is (insert character name) so stupid?!'. I don't understand how people can think the best way to engage with movies or TV is to hold it up to impossible standards. The acting and choreography are top-shelf. The cast is unbelievably talented. All you negative nancies need a refresher in the meaning of entertainment. Why do you continue to watch a show that obviously angers you to the point of spending time to write a misguided negative review on imdb? Either you're entertained by the show or you're not, and if you're not, why do you continue to watch?
Raised by Wolves (2020)
Very, very upset HBO canceled this show.
HBO has canceled some of its best shows well before their time: Rome, Deadwood, and now Raised by Wolves. Apparently production costs are too high in relation to how many viewers the show brings in. In my opinion this is ludicrous since Raised by Wolves was canceled before I even got a chance to view season 2. I loved this show almost as much as I loved Alien and Prometheus by Ridley Scott. And as far as HBO shows go, I thought Raised by Wolves has much more potential than most HBO shows. Maybe not as much as Game of Thrones, but not too far off. What a huge mistake canceling this show was. I need to look up the name of the new guy at HBO who decided to slash costs, so I know who to hate.
Nightmare Alley (2021)
A decent remake.
After glancing through several other reviews, I'm guessing most of the reviewers are unaware that this is a remake of a very good 1947 movie starring Tyrone Power. This movie is a decent homage and worth watching, in my opinion. The casting and mise en scene are very good. Many reviewers said the story is slow, and in my opinion that comes from how ridiculously fast-paced the average movies of today are, and to me indicates how quickly viewers of today get bored. People get fidgety if they aren't completely engrossed for every single second and they start to feel cheated if there isn't revealed skin or cars/helicopters blowing up once every 30 seconds. It indicates a growing lack of imagination in viewers of today. Nightmare Alley is a good example of how many of the movies of yesterday became great through their ability to tell a worthwhile story without needing to rely on explosions and sweaty striptease.
The Twilight Zone: 8 (2020)
I don't understand all the low ratings for these episodes
I thought this was a fantastic episode. I feel like they've captured the essence of the original, while at the same time making it relevant to the present and providing well-written entertainment with above-par acting. This season is much better than the first, but I'm confused by all the negative feedback they've received for the show. Even the special effects are good. I don't know if it's right wingers who hate any indication of non-whites having a role in society AND any mention of climate change or evolution, but I don't think the haters have watched the original series in a while.
The Twilight Zone (2019)
Lackluster first season, but second season restored hope
I'll make this short: I absolutely love the original from 1959 and believe the show, along with the original Star Trek and Giligan's Island, do a wonderful job of portraying the progressive attitude of the 1960's. That being said, I think Jordan Peele's remake is great. The first season was a bit disappointing. I agreed with the messages, but I feel like the episodes were too heavy on the messages, not enough creepiness, and it didn't really feel like most of the stories were well written. I've watched the first half of season 2 so far, and it has already more than redeemed itself. I highly recommend.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
I've never written a review, but this show sucks
I just had to finally write a review, because this show was a huge disappointment. They spent a ton of money on cgi and special effects and admittedly that part looks pretty good. They seemed to skimp on the writing, however. The actors are somewhat decent, considering the material they're given, even though it seems as they are mainly CBS rejects from crappy csi-type shows.
I am not sure why execs haven't figured out that the reason people think these shows suck is that they are too dramatic/cheesy. They inject irrelevant humor when they could be answering cool science questions or having them solve riddles or puzzles like the old days of star trek. The show does well with visual spectacle, but falls short on having a story with substance.
