The Chosen (2017)
There were no Sub-Saharan Africans in Judea
With that said, this is a fine series (with a great cast) with some embellishments thrown in here and there to drive the story. It's grounded, engaging and relatable.
The best ingredient is the "Chosen" and how well they are developed. This hasn't been seen before in a film or series about the life of Christ. They all have their own individual stories and the chemistry among them is icing on the cake. If you're going for accuracy, you'll have some minor problems. If you're looking for a deep, soulful and powerful message of life in general and the miracle of God, you'll be happy.
I do hope season 3 throws in some more desert shots. Lol.
Heaven's Gate (1980)
An Underrated Showdown in the Old West
Pros: Locations, Atmosphere, Authenticity, Cinematography, Strong performances and chemistry between Kristofferson and Huppert. One hell of a good ending.
Cons: Obviously, the history behind the scenes. Not enough character development, especially among the supporting cast.
Final Verdict: This is a slow and surprising burn (of sorts) that takes you to the American Old West. Rough, rowdy, romantic, and with guns blazing. Best part about the film is how real it felt. There is a struggle here that I believe every human being can identify with.
