Peter Mangs - en seriemördares hemlighet (2024)
Speculations going wild.
Well. This is definitely an interesting case and an interesting perpetrator. However, wild documentaries, speculating around additional murders... well, it definitely goes too far.
"Hey, look here. Peter was in Florida during a period where a random woman with drug issues were murdered. It must've been him... because no other criminal lives in Florida, passing the bridge to Key West during a period of X weeks... riiight?".
Unfortunately this one is a bit slow and way too speculative. And of course, like any documentary such as this one, speculations around additional crimes rarely ever results in anything.
Good Luck Guys Sverige (2023)
Say what?
Honestly: who voted for this to get 6+ in IMDb rating?
It's a very cheap copy of the "Robinson" franchise, but with poor influencers as cast, horrible host, horrible storyline, sleepy competitions etc...
This is probably the worst reality/competition show I've seen in a while. I am easily entertained in terms of these kinds of shows - but I just can't stand this.
What the hell happened to Swedish TV shows if this is the level we're at? Or am I too old to understand the purpose of this weird TikTok-generation and the influencers who derive from this (I don't think so, I do find the e.g Paradise Hotel franchise entertaining)?
Anyways: do not watch.
Depp V Heard (2023)
Too hip to be square?
Well. It's an interesting case and I thought about having a professional documentary going through the story, the case and the outcome.
Some parts can possibly be a bit interesting, but the whole social media aspect, taking a fair share of the entire documentary is... so annoying I almost stopped watching halfway.
Endless clips from pointless influencers on TikTok, YouTube etc. Sorry, but I couldn't care less. Unfortunately this documentary doesn't feel credible. Also... it's not even entertaining or interesting. Honestly, due to all influencer content, I'd rather watch Ex on the Beach if I want stupid influencer content - at least that is entertaining.
This is a weird one to be honest. Sad.
Can someone make an interesting and serious documentary on the subject?
MH370: The Plane That Disappeared (2023)
Started off well - then fell like a plane
Well. This one actually started off as quite interesting. The happening as a such, and the problem finding the plane opens up for a lot of speculation and the story itself is pretty damn exciting.
However, throughout the documentary the conspiracy theories starts to flow. And, of course, to some extent it is in fact valuable to touch any plausible thought. But eventually this documentary goes too far and after a while the theories goes (to say the least) totally absurd.
Some of the people obviously hates the US, blaming anything on the Americans. Some (do I have to tell you that that's the Americans?) believe it's the Russians (or China). And eventually this is how it does.
Sometimes it's true what they say; "sometimes the most simple explanation is the truth". I'm sorry, but the "James Bond type of conspiracy theories" made this documentary a bit less good than what it could have been.
Nope (2022)
Nope!
Well. I tried to keep my expectations low, instead of over-expecting things. While Get Out was a horror masterpiece, with a safe spot in my top three horror movies ever... everything I can say about this one is... NOPE!
And I should say - I really wanted to like this one. But the entire thing is (once again): NOPE!
The way the story is told, the acting, the uninteresting and totally illogical story and the awfully boring characters... I truly expected more. And I am pretty open minded myself, no matter if it's just something weird, complex or... basically whatever. But the straight out illogical and pointless story of this movie... man... it's bad.
For me, there were ~1 minute in the middle of the movie where I felt that "maybe this could turn into something cool" (when the phenomenon is at first fully revealed). Unfortunately it didn't. I must say that this was the biggest mistake (in regards of film) in 2022.
Any positives? Well, the environments, scenery and color grading is nice. But I'd actually prefer a great movie in front of all those.
D.B. Cooper: Where Are You?! (2022)
Falls faster than a Cooper in the sky?
Interesting first episode, concerning the background, the case, the suspects, the findings etc. This could be something good.
But the rest... come on...
Cringe, desperately fetching on to people who are obviously innocent, trying to look into completely pointless leads.
These guys are obsessed. Seriously. Just stop.
American Beauty (1999)
Life...
Once I saw this as a parody of grownups or something. Then you get older, watch it again and realize that American Beauty IS LIFE, with all the questions, fear, boredom, crisis and everything life will bring you.
Absolutely amazing. Phenomenal acting. Great story, dark and insanely funny! One of the best movies ever - and what made Kevin Spacey my favorite actor of all time.
Meltdown: Three Mile Island (2022)
Emotional explosion?
Unfortunately I have to agree with many other reviews here on IMDB. I understand the severity of the accident and the mistakes of the government handling.
However, this seems more like a documentary based upon emotion to shame the entire nuclear power industry. In total, worldwide, we have less of a handful nuclear accidents, and even lesser direct deaths. This means that more people die every day while driving cars or being in any other industry.
And also, people with a certain kind of accident related bias might not be the best of experts in a certain, high tech area of technology. Sorry.
However - the details around the story and the storytelling was good and interesting. The emotional and almost political aspects - not so much!
JonBenét Ramsey: What Really Happened? (2021)
The most biased documentary?
Honestly... I've seen tons of documentaries on the JonBenet case. There are good ones and not so good ones. This one is... not one of the good ones.
If you are supposed to present an investigating documentary, where the purpose is to "reveal the truth", then you need to dig into every aspect, interview people from all sides of the case, look at every story and every clue. There are no pure angels, there are no perfect acts from any individual in any case where a child is murdered. BUT this documentary only portrays one side and that this is the truth. No questioned asked. No proof presented. No nothing.
Seriously. This is probably the most biased "investigative" documentary I've seen. I cannot even see it without laughing.
The question of "what really happened" remains. There are tons of interesting theories. This documentary presents NONE!
Saint Maud (2019)
Not your traditional horror blockbuster!
Well. I see a lot of mixed opinions when reading all reviews about this movie. And I can understand that. I guess you wont be satisfied with this if you're expecting a thrilling, slashing and traditional horror movie. Because it's not one of those.
However - if you like movies such as Black Swan, Hereditary, Midsommar etc - you will love this one as well. It portrays a young nurse, that becomes obsessed with saving the soul of one of her patients. How long can you go and how dark can you get on your way of saving a soul?
As anything coming from A24: Dark, psychological, strange and unique! I LOVE IT!
Hereditary (2018)
Possibly the best modern horror movie!
Yes, you did read the title right! Many people reviewing this movie seem to feel that it is slow and more of a drama rather than a horror movie. I do not agree. What Hereditary does very well is to capture true depression in relation to loss of someone close. The loss of the will to live and the constant feel of panic.
And as the movie turns towards the dark and occult I must say that it is rare that a movie can even do so without appear childish and ridiculous. However, even here, Hereditary succeeds very well. I find this movie sharp and spot on straight through - and the darkness it has is unlike anything I have ever seen before.
Then also, the acting of Alex Wolff and Toni Collette is nothing but outstanding. This could possibly be the best horror movie I have ever seen. Where all other horror movies are obvious and all about throwing something in your face, so that you will jump by sudden fear - Hereditary plays with darkness and fear on a completely different level.
I am saddened that so many people doesnt seem to understand this movie, because it's not like other "horror flicks". Give this one a chance - enter it without relating it to other horror movies, because this one is not.
I am stunned and amazed. Fantastic!
The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)
I'd have to agree with the negatives, sorry!
Well. I do normally like dark movies, psychological thrillers etc. And I did really want to like this one after everything I heard about it. I expected it to be emotional, sad, evil so many other things. I expected to feel bad, disturbed, hopelessness and so on... I expected to see a tough piece of movie.
But I didnt! It never happened. While the cinematography, the screenplay, the acting and so on is very good; The movie as a such isnt. I have honestly gained more from other movie trailers than from this full movie. This is, at least according to me, almost flirting with surrealistic movie genres as it doesnt explain or solve everything. You will end up with more questions after seeing this than you probably had before/in the beginning of the movie. At least I did. And yes, I did end the movie by saying "what the f****?!".
Sorry, not my cup of tea.
Kidnap (2017)
A movie that had potential... but failed!
Okay. Sow this might be the fastest movie description ever:
1. A kid gets kidnapped.
2. Mother sees it and follows the kidnappers.
3. Car chase through the entire movie.
4. In the end they get to the kidnappers house where the mother kills the kidnappers and saves her kid.
Seriously, this movie HAD potential. And by that I mean that it COULD have been a movie in the same universe such as "Prisoners" (which is a hell of a good movie). However this is not. They would have needed a lot more mystery, a lot better dialogues to make it interesting. After half the movie passed in a car chase I started to get bored.
And the ending, where the mother unveils the secret and kills the last kidnapper... I mean, the dialogue is so lame I almost laughed. Once again, Halle Berry is at least a descent actor, but she deserves better than this. Oh my God, how I have wasted time on a movie like this!
Room (2015)
Amazing and breathtaking movie!
I did not know what kind of expectations to have before watching this movie. But now, when I've seen it, I must say; WOW! Amazing acting, very realistic and serious story... the way it is all filmed and how the story is told is just about perfect! And Jacob Tremblay is probably the best kid we've seen acting (or at least one of the best).
Another positive thing about this movie is that it does not only tell the story of being prisoners and the escape - but also the life after; adapting to "reality". Once again; how could I have missed this until now?
Paranoia (2013)
At least it could have had potential...
Well as my title says, the movie could have had potential. I mean, there are tons of really good "infiltration movies" out there. However, I realized quite instantly that this one wouldn't be a "winner", but I still had some expectations. Its a somewhat good cast and once again; the story has potential.
But... it fails. The way the story has been filmed is messy, and the story in itself is made so ridiculous that I cannot take the movie seriously. I mean... the story concerns this new mobile solution that would revolutionize the whole market. And... that's okay... but the feeling I get is that this should be a "serious" and "realistic" movie. I mean... I think a movie have to "pick a side"; either its completely fictional, "Minority Report style" (which is a good movie), or it is serious "Departed style". This one seem to want to take some of both. It tries to become this serious thriller that have a modern theme. Sorry, but a completely unrealistic technical solution, almost Sean Connery's James Bond style... I mean, of course a private businessman can control any TV, camera or anything... and of course a tech student can copy/paste fingerprints and anything, just like that! And this while the movie tries to make everything look planned by having people talking completely nonsense technical terms that doesn't even mean anything!
And then...the rest of the story is also completely strange! The guy meets a woman... that rejects him. He starts at her company... she still rejects him. They go to a company event... and she suddenly loves him? And this is how the movie goes on... completely nonsense, and it's pretty much going on the whole movie. Sorry. It had potential with a promising story - but they screwed it up completely!
And the ending... yeah, it doesn't get better. This guy wants to present his product in front of a big tech company and does a lousy job, and is therefore rejected. The manager tells him to infiltrate a competitor. So they fix the guy a job with the competitor, where the guy just walks in, and presents a product like a god (nice coincidence right?). And you can guess from the start what happens - he falls in love with a woman at the competitor company, and the competitor himself seem like a good guy. So how is he going to get himself out of this one? He lies to his new love, his new employer and commit several crimes, trying to steal a top secret technical device funded by the government... ...just to realize its a setup and both the tech company managers are "bad guys". But this student tech guy is a genius and fools them both, working with FBI in secret... gets them arrested (and does not get himself arrested, as he helped FBI out...). And then he starts a tech company on his own, because "there are no shortcuts to success" (like looking for a job at someone elses company?)!
And yeah, he gets the girl... even though he hacked her computer, lied to her, stole her phone and used her identity to steal a top secret government property. But... yeah, that's nothing right?
Well... this one didn't make sense at all. Sorry to say!
The Mummy (2017)
Wait... what?
A high budget movie (at about 125 000 000 $), with high quality effects, a remake of a classic, with top cast... this have to be good, right? Or...?
Well, it starts of quite good and I instantly got a feel of excitement when the adventure trio goes into the desert, finding this old burial site. An amazing way to start of a movie.
However... things change quite quickly, as the movie leaves its serious feeling almost instantly and instead it takes a comedy approach, almost at a cartoon level. Why not take some futuristic elements, true Hellboy style, with a real dose of humor - add some other famous characters, such as... well Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, maybe? And... zombies, there have to be a lot of zombies!
Well, I did check the spoiler box here, so I can tell the story straight up; They find the mummy coffin. The mummy awakes. The mummy and her zombies hunts the main characters. The main characters kill the mummy. So yes... the whole movie is about the mummy getting stronger, awakenings a lot of zombies, hunting the main characters...
Honestly... if they would have kept the seriousness and done something radical with the story - it could have been a REALLY good movie. But no, instead they did what "Johnny English" does with "James Bond"... basically a satire on itself. And I mean... I laugh at Johnny English, but... this is not funny... its just bad... sorry. It had a lot of potential and it even started off quite well. But ended up in something that cannot be unseen. Damn! What a shame...
Rocco (2016)
Not very personal...
Well. I do not really know where to start. Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed with this one. I have read several interviews with Rocco, that have built my interest in him, his personal life, his view upon porn and things like that. However... this documentary does not really live up to those expectations.
While there are a few, short interviews with Rocco and Gabi on how things started, Roccos relation to his mother, his sexuality, his wife/kids etc - it is still very short, and unfortunately not very personal. And even though that we get to know some weird and personal details they are very few and it does not provide a full picture.
Unfortunately the most part of the movie is behind the scene shots from porn scenes with Rocco. Slow motion close ups on moaning faces of people having sex (I could not use the F-word here on IMDb), anxious young girls that are being asked about what they can do on film etc.
If I need more of that I could have watched his movies instead. Thats unfortunate!
Some positive things though; It makes you realize even more how sad up the porn business is and how a brand (Rocco) can make you do pretty much anything to anyone, without moral consequences. Of course, the girls there are not forced into it - but its still kind of disgusting how this one girl talks about this as "shes in it for the money and to be a star like Rocco". And Rocco gets to ruin her completely and she will not have gotten any further in her carrier! ;)
And the few personal interviews with Rocco was also a positive thing. I would have wanted more of that though. More and deeper (thats what she said)!
Nah. Barely okay... nothing more. Sorry!
