Blue Story (2019)
3/10
They got the scenery and acting right but everything else was trash

I thought the acting was fine. I mean, those weren't Oscar worthy performances but I feel like they did accurately portray UK roadmen and troubled school children. The main problem with this movie was the plot. It was just so cliché, boring and unoriginal I feel like I've heard the story a hundred times before; two long time best friends have a fight and later become enemies, one of them decides to get revenge, an eye for an eye, countless people get hurt, unhappy ending blah blah blah.

The lack of creativity also made the film really predictable. Not gonna give context because I don't want to spoil the movie for whoever's reading this, but an example of the film being predictable could be the plot twist near the end of the film where that guy who was on EastEnders (sorry can't remember his name) decides to do something drastic which is supposed to be surprising but honestly it wasn't. And his reason for doing the drastic thing is also really cliché and just not interesting at all.

Way too much guns, getting hold of a gun in the UK isn't that easy. Not even our police have guns but the characters in the film wave their guns around like they live in the US.

The director Rapman occasionally rapping lyrics related to the film was a good idea but not executed well. He usually rapped about what we literally just saw happen in the movie and the lyrics were mediocre so it felt kinda pointless.

All the greatest crime drama TV shows and films we see here in the UK are pretty much always American. I feel like that's why a lot of people like Blue Story because even though it's definitely not as good as American crime dramas like Breaking Bad, Blue Story feels a lot closer to home with a lot of UK street culture, slang and scenery that we're very familiar with, so despite the movie's bad plot and many other problems, many viewers can look past all that and give the film a 10/10 for it's accurate portrayal of UK culture. Either that or the majority of people who watched this film were hardcore Year 7 roadman wannabes who've never watched a critically acclaimed crime drama in their life.

Better than I expected

Quite short but it's got a commendable plot, likeable characters and a heartwarming ending and message. One of the only good things I've watched on modern Nickelodeon in years.
